The questions test knowledge on authors and their works, including identifying authors based on descriptions of themselves or their works. Some of the authors and works identified include J.K. Rowling and her pseudonym Robert Galbraith, Aesop and his fables, Agatha Christie, Ernest Hemingway, George R.R. Martin and his inspiration from pet turtles for A Song of Ice and Fire, and Chuck Palahniuk's inspiration from a camping incident for Fight Club.

of the most well known in the world, and are the
source of many phrases and idioms in everyday

• This particular test asks if a work of fiction features at least

than a man. The requirement that the two women must be
named is sometimes added.
• Originally conceived for evaluating films, this test is now

Almost half of all contemporary films fail the test, and
critics have noted that the test is most informative when
applied in the aggregate, because individual works may
pass or fail the test for reasons unrelated to sexism.
