High Fidelity: Genre analysis
'Leaves you believing not only in the redemptive power of music but above all the redemptive
power of love. Funny and wise, sweet and true.'
– Mick Brown, 'Independent'
Introduction
Nick Hornby's first novel High Fidelity, published in 1995 tells a tale about a man holding on to his
past through the music of the 70s and 80s. It is a story about break–ups and relationships, about
feelings and memories, about music, friends and all life's disappointments.
Hornby graduated from Jesus' College and is very well–educated in literature. His style of writing
however seems to be quite light and easy to read as he was influenced by Lorri Moore ... Show more

The story is set in London, in th e 1990s, a realistic world with everyday struggles of a mediocre
man, boredom, break–ups, one night stands, drinking, listening to music, going to work, visiting
parents, going to funerals... The characters are not perfect, they are flawed just like real people are
and they use everyday speech with cursing and swearing. The occurances which happen are
unfolded in a convincing way and are not fairy tale like. The fact that Rob needs to go on a journey
of self–development is a sole most obvious sign that the novel is realistic

Eternal Fidelity Quotes
Independent Study Unit Update #1:
Love in the Time of Cholera The author's purpose: The author Gabriel Marquez conveys through
Love In The Time of Cholera, lovesickness is an illness, a plague that is comparable to Cholera.
Gabriel conveys this using the main characters eternal fidelity, love leading to physical suffering and
emotional emptiness. Eternal Fidelity:
One of the main character Floretino Ariza has eternal love for the other main character Fermina
Doza. Florentino's undying love Fermina can be seen as obsessive and psychotic at times due to
their forbidden relationship ending suddenly. Form:
Florentino has waited over 51 years to declare his undying love for Fermina. Florentino did not care
if Fermina's husband has just passed away, he is already to 'save' Fermina's heart. This can prove
irony in this novel due to Florentino showing up just in time of this sudden death to re–unite with
his one, true love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Love leading to physical suffering:
Florentino shows an obsessive behaviour towards Fermina which lead him to be sick and suffer
Cholera 'like' symptoms when he ate flowers so he can remember Fermina since she smells like
flowers. Form:
Florentino described his physical agony of vomiting after eating flowers and drinking cologne
resulting in diarrhea and green vomit. Florentino felt the urgent need to do this because he wants to
remember Fermina's scent. This proves as both physical and emotional suffering which literally
resulted in plague 'like' symptoms. The flowers could represent symbolism. Florentino is willing to
die by eating flower and drinking cologne just to remember Fermina. Quote:
"Crowned goddess, which he composes in her honor, after seeing her wearing a crown of flowers,
atop her head." (page 62).
"He took pleasure in his pain." (page

Fidelity Is Not A Sense Of Fidelity
Fidelity is faithfulness to a person, cause or belief demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.
It seems that we as humans strive to obtain a sense of fidelity, yet they cannot when it comes to their
relationships with others. Individuals are incapable of remaining committed in relationships. This
has been proven through not only psychological research, but in literature as well. In the scholarly
articles from Psychology Today, it states that Americans seem to value the idea of fidelity and
faithfulness, but have a hard time achieving it. The researchers believe that individuals suffer from
marital myths, that in turn can cause a partner to commit acts of adultery. This happened directly
with the character John from The Miller's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They find a different outlet for their need. Humans cannot seem to find happiness with only one
person, they stray off showing that they cant be loyal or committed to anything in life. Temptation
was also a resounding reason throughout the article. Individuals see someone else, who they may
see as a challenge or simply someone who draws their attention, and lack of better judgement kicks
in. "...Many of us are tempted by the delights of the new, especially those of the sexual variety."
People become unsatisfied and indulge in pleasure with a new partner. According to the researchers,
individuals seem to be incapable of following through to the promises they made to their significant
other. The vow of for better or for worse seems to be forgotten because they cannot commit to the
meaning behind those words. They contradict themselves, they say they love their partner, but are
unfaithful behind their back. But sometimes infidelity can root in simply just not being happy with
who you are with anymore. They just don 't make you feel the way you felt when you had first
gotten together. The relationship is no longer enjoyable and becomes a burden. Essentially,
individuals are susceptible to cheat, and sometimes the temptation and curiosity becomes too
overwhelming to fight. Many of these ideas are

Managing Fidelity 's Magellan Mutual Fund
Ever since his successful management of Fidelity's Magellan mutual fund from 1977 to 1990, his
retirement, Peter Lynch has been regarded as one of Wall Street's greatest legendary investors. A
year after graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of
Business Administration in 1968, he began working for Fidelity Investments where he had
previously been hired as an intern in the summer of 1966. While at Fidelity, Lynch managed to
successfully increase the Magellan Fund from $20 million with only 40 stocks in the portfolio to
$14 billion with 1,400 stocks, averaging an annual return of 29.2%, as well as consistently
outperforming the S&P 500 market index.

He says so because first, you may not be familiar with the company and second because you will not
know if there is any change of information with that particular company. He then, may have decided
not to invest in said stock after all, and only you will be left at a loss. This is why Peter Lynch
greatly emphasizes throughout his book on the importance of only investing in companies of which
you fully understand the nature of their business and believe in it.
Peter Lynch poses three important questions to the investor in order to self–evaluate their financial
position as well as mental state before deciding to invest in the stock market: (1) Do I own a home?
He advises that buying a house first is the best type of investment you can make as it, in the long–
run, just as stocks, always appreciates in value. (2) Do I need the money now? Only invest money
you can afford to lose and will not be needing in the near future. (3) Do I poses the personal
qualities necessary to succeed in stocks? Some of the personal qualities Lynch deems necessary are
lots of patience, ability to ignore the general panic, tolerance for pain, open mindedness, persistence,
and common sense.
In his book Lynch talks about developing the "company story" before investing in the stocks of any
company. Being able to develop the story comes from conducting the research of the company's
financial health and

High Fidelity
Rob, the main character in the movie High Fidelity, is experiencing a mid life crisis in his mid 30's.
He is beginning to question whether or not his current job is right for him and if t is as fulfilling as
he wants it to be; he also begins to question his past relationship and evaluate what went wrong with
them. This mid life crisis is onset by his stable live in girlfriend leaving him because of many things
but it was mainly triggered by feelings of distance between them and the lack of commitment. After
she leaves he realizes that she might have been the one after he evaluated his past "Top 5 Breakups."

Rob starts to become aware of where he is in life and where he wants to be and he begins to
understand who he truly is. He also grasps what Laura wants and what he has to do in order to be
with her. The connection between Rob's identity status and his capacity for intimacy is that since he
doesn't truly know himself and is not that mature he is basically incapable of having an intimate
relationship.
However Rob tells Laura that he only wants her and the he wants to marry her, he finally realizes
that he gets nothing out of the many past relationships and they are meaningless compared to his
relationship with Laura. Since Rob has begun to understand who he is and what it takes to have an
intimate and fully committed relationship he has began to mature towards a more role–focused
relationship with Laura. He is realizing what she wants and what they need to do in order to make it
work. They have begun to take on the roles of spouse and partner in life. While this is going on Rob
begins making a C.D. with some kids that had earlier broken in to his store. He feels even more
passionate about making music then about his store and Laura sets up a gig for him to DJ again and
to premiere his new single.

Personal Narrative: High Fidelity
We may never know when our life is complete. Life is filled with endless possibilities and a great
range of problems that will always affect the future. In the novel and film, High Fidelity, Rob
Gordon cannot put the pieces of his life together as he struggles to form a strong relationship with
the people around him. It was a long and hard conflict he had to face, though he was able to learn
the absolute "Truth", or noumena, of reality. Similar to Rob, all I wanted was my life to be one. I
had this mindset that I had to fit into something. Whether this something was the "in" crowd, the
artists, the writers, the jocks, I wanted to feel like I'm part of a larger group. This may have been the
same way Rob had felt when searching for reasons as to why his life is the way it was. We both ...

Fidelity Vs. The Odyssey Essay

How Fidelity Drives The Odyssey
Fidelity is the crucial virtue in The Odyssey. Fidelity is what drives the story of Odysseus's journey:
it is both Odysseus 's reason for returning home and the means for him to get home. In the course of
the story, Homer dramatizes the nature of fidelity by contrasting different forms of fidelity and their
opposites. This essay will examine three forms of fidelity and the roles they play in Odysseus 's
journey.
The most noticeable form of fidelity is sexual fidelity, or faithfulness. Odysseus loves his wife,
Penelope, and he wants nothing more than to get back home to her; and for him, the fullest
expression of being "back with her" would be back in bed with her. And yet Odysseus sleeps with a
couple of other women during his journey home, and he does so willingly. Describing Odysseus's
last day with Calypso, Homer says, "And now, withdrawing into the cavern 's deep recesses, in each
other 's arms they lost themselves in love." (book 5, lines 250–251) What they feel is "love" not just
lust, or passion; that "they lost themselves" shows that they felt it mutually. This is obviously
Odysseus sleeping with Calypso willingly and enjoying it. Later in the story, he is unfaithful to
Penelope again when he sleeps with Circe: "Straightaway she began to swear the oath I required–
never, she'd never do me

Old Men Fidelity
Adaptation between literary and visual media frequently involves the problematic notion of 'fidelity',
or the degree of faithfulness with which a preceding work is reproduced. Conspicuous debates have
been spouted among various scholars and critics concerning this prominent issue. In the screen
adaptation of No Country for Old Men, filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen utilize an audio–visual sign
system of film in order to convey a new level of symbolism within the diegesis. As a result, the issue
of 'fidelity discourse' is raised due to the elision of key dialogue from Cormac McCarthy's precursor
text.
A variety of approaches have been proposed by academics in order to judge the notion of fidelity
with regard to No Country for Old Men. In an interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identical to the exchange with the gas station owner, Chigurh's coin toss proposition to Carla Jean is
consistent in the novel and the film. McCarthy's dialogue between Chigurh and Carla Jean is
lengthier, more shrewd yet cognizant in the novel when compared to the film. In the context of this
scene, it can be argued that further development of Carla Jean's character could significantly impact
the viewer's overall understanding of the dynamic between her and Chigurh. Thus, the Coens have
deliberately elided dialogue in this scene to assert Chigurh's recurring cycle of ruthless degradation
of his victims. Carla Jean's response to Chigurh's coin toss proposal is significantly different in both
the novel and the film. Consequently, a new symbolic meaning is developed amid the interaction. In
the novel, Carla Jean calls 'tails' however due to misfortune, the result is 'heads'. In contrast to the
novel, the film has elided Carla Jean's acceptance of the toss. In the novel, McCarthy's Carla Jean
appears to be powerless and easily willing to accept her fate. However in the film, the character is
approached in a contrasting manner where the Coens have moulded her into a self–reliant, assertive
woman. In her final act of defiance, she simply states that she does not have to listen to Chigurh's
coin philosophy, and in doing so, she denies Chigurh of his incentive. Through Carla

Essay On Erikson's Capacity For Fidelity
Occurring between thirteen and nineteen years of age, this stage answers the major questions, "Who
am I?", "What is my role?". The ego virtue to be gained here is fidelity – more specifically, the
ability to sustain loyalties and make commitments to yourself and others. Erikson claims, "we have
almost an instinct for fidelity – meaning that when you reach a certain age you can and must learn to
be faithful to some ideological view." (Evans, 1967). Without the development of a capacity for
fidelity the individual will have a weak ego or will have to look elsewhere for something to be
faithful to. Focusing more on the idea of identity, Erikson feels that our sense of identity is
composed of both positive and negative elements. There are

Definition Essay On Open Relationships
Have you found yourself asking, "What is an open relationship" or "Are we in an open
relationship?" If so, hopefully it isn't because you agreed to such a relationship without
understanding what it really means.
If you and your partner want to have a successful relationship (open or not), it's absolutely critical to
have clarity on your expectations of each other. This is rarely more important than when committing
to a non–traditional arrangement.
Okay... back to the question. What exactly does it mean to have a relationship that's open? The
complicated thing is that the term has different meanings to different people, so take a look at some
of these categories and come to a finite agreement with your partner on some open relationship
rules. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A relationship like this may or may not include full disclosure. In some cases, the faithful partner
accepts that there will be outside relationships but doesn't want to discuss it at all.
Swinging
One of the more controversial types of open relationships is the swinger lifestyle. In an open
relationship that includes couples dating others, there is often a focus on "togetherness" in the
affairs.
In some cases, the couple dates other couples; however, there are many cases where the couple adds
a single third party to the relationship. The primary relationship comes first, but both partners are
open to fully disclosed outside relationships. When this is strictly sexual, a third (or fourth or fifth or
whatever) person may simply be included on occasion.
Swinging exists in a variety of other forms as well. In some cases, there may be a multitude of
people committed to openly sharing each other while forsaking all outside parties.
Open Committed
The most important reason to ask your partner "What is an open relationship to you," is that for
some people the term simply means keeping communication lines

Summary: High-Fidelity Collaboration Experiences
Discussion
This study showed a significant affect in interdisciplinary collaborative abilities between allied
health students exposed to a traditional ICU clinical experience and those that have had a
combination of clinical and interdisciplinary simulation experiences. High–fidelity clinical
simulation offers an excellent opportunity for inexperienced allied health teams to practice
demanding clinical simulations. The interdisciplinary format offered, to four disciplines, a safe
environment to practice interpersonal skills, communication, and improve collaborative abilities.
Importance of study
Limited access to clinical placements and a lack of consistency in students' experiences within the
clinical setting increasingly require allied health programs to rely on a combination of clinical and
simulation experiences to facilitate the development of clinical competence, collaborative abilities,
and interdisciplinary communication skills. This study sought to contribute to previous research by

Analysis Of Lolita 's Tehran, And Fidelity
When entering this unit of postmodernism, my only thoughts were of a reluctant nature. I
pessimistically expected only disagreement and frustration from reading the works of Life of Pi,
Reading Lolita in Tehran, and Fidelity. However, my initial expectations were completely and
thankfully wrecked. Though the philosophies of both Martel and Nafisi contradict my own, there are
endless gems of insight to be plundered from their writings. These postmodern works emphasize
where we as humans find our identity and how religion plays into that identity. Contrary to my
presumptions, I learned so much from reading these novels woven with postmodernists thought and
can say with confidence that I am a better and more educated person for having read them.
Postmodernism is not a wholly cohesive ideology that can be covered in a single blanket statement.
It is more of an umbrella that contains many miscellaneous modern conceptions of things. (Uhhhh
citation, idrk) There is an over–arching theme, however, that rejects objective truth. This belief
would argue that truth can be constructed by each person individually. For Pi, this meant his house
could be a temple for gods from Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam (Martel 45–46). It did not matter
that those religions were not congruous, he just wanted "to love God" (Martel 69). His truth was that
"all religions are true" (Martel 69). Nafisi similarly creates her own truth in her living room which
"became [her] sanctuary, [her] self–contained

Ethics: Beneficence And Fidelity In Nursing
Although the concept of principles guiding right and wrong conduct is not new to nursing,
professional ethics has received increasing attention in nursing circles. Professionals such as nursing
require a code of ethics on which practice can be based and evaluated (Black , 2017). There are sic
ethical principles based on human dignity and respect: autonomy, beneficence, non–maleficence,
justice, fidelity, and veracity. Today, I will talk about two ethics that nurses have to face a lot in
patient care: beneficence and fidelity.
Beneficence can be defined as "to do good for patients" (Black , 2017). This principle is based on
the belief that the education and experience of nurses enable them to make decisions that serve
patients' best interest (Chiduku, 2016). Beneficent actions can be taken to help prevent or remove
harms or to simply improve the situation of others. Nurses are required to do well and to choose the
"best option" of care under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To override patients' decisions and invoke professional authority to take action that nurses view as in
patients' best interests is viewed as paternalism and interferes with the freedom and rights of
patients. I have seen a lot of cases that the patients refused treatment that has benefits for them. I
think that nurses practice this ethic on every day that we do not even realized that we used it. For
example, when a nurse chooses to perform a pain assessment and request and order for medication
from a doctor as one of the first interventions, it is an act of beneficence. For instance beneficence
can be seen as working above and beyond for the patients, making sure they have everything they
need including discharge instructions without making them feel helpless. It could also come in a
psychiatric setting, perhaps by helping a combative client relax by letting him talk out his

The Codes Of Fidelity And Hospitality In Modern Society
In modern society the codes of behavior are described as etiquette that each society member is
expected to follow. In ancient Greek culture it was very essential to follow codes of behavior. In the
first half of odyssey there are several codes of behavior spotted like hospitality, vengenance, fidelity,
household loyalty, and reverence. The particular types of codes of behavior that will be discussed in
this essay are fidelity and hospitality. Hospitality is an important aspect in society where guests are
treated as though they were god. Fidelity code is loyalty between husband and wife being loyal to
each other. Both codes will be taken into the account and illustrated with example from the first half
of The Odyssey.

Loyalty to family, society and the gods is an important aspect in ancient Greek culture. This quality
is often seen between characters throughout The Odysseyas specially loyalty between husband and

uncertainty. Penelope waits tem long years for her husband to return from war and on the other hand

High Fidelity Analysis
Great writers create great characters. The novel, High Fidelity, focuses on the life of Rob, owner of a
record store who his girlfriend just left him for another guy. Rob tells and describes the stories of his
relationships and his breakups. He faces many struggles because of the decisions he made himself in
the past. Hornby created Rob and Laura as believable characters and made Rob a victim of himself
to describe the flaws in human beings.
When Rob introduces his past girlfriends, he had many friends and many girlfriends, but he ruined it
all. Rob had a great relationship with Penny and she was a nice girl. Rob would get frustrated with
Penny because she "wouldn't let me put my hand underneath or even on top of her bra" therefore he
"was finished with her, although obviously I didn't tell her why" (10). This characterizes Rob
because he did not want to have a long, slow relationship he wanted to get in bed with the girls.
When Rob described his top five break–ups, Jackie Allen was third on the list. Jackie was the
girlfriends of one of his friends named Paul. But Rob betrayed Paul's friendship and "pinched her off
him, slowly, patiently, over a period of months" (15). Hornby characterizes Rob as a horrible friend
who will do anything to anyone for personal gain. Rob dated Jackie while she was dating Paul.
When Jackie finally ended her relationship with Paul, she called Rob and told him she "wanted to go
out on a walk" and then they "weren't doing anything in secret

Dynamic Characters In High Fidelity
Dynamic characters evolve because of a life changing event. This transformation into a dynamic
character did not occur until this year. Before senior year being naive and ignorant was my forte.
Similar to Rob in the film High Fidelity who did not grow up until he realized that he is no longer
the adolescent he once was and needs to mature, not only his sake but, for the sake of those around
him. There seems to be a connection between growing up and jumping into an abyss. Maturity
comes with an intense amount of fear. Rob is afraid of commitment because he knows it means he
can no longer sleep around and keep being the adolescent he once was. Similar to my situation
because once I go off to college my family and school will become my only priorities. ... Show more

Making a good mix–tape requires patience and delicacy. It is a representation of what one is feeling
either in times of distress or excitement. A mix–tape should not be chronologically or alphabetically
because life does not occur this way. A good mix–tape is autobiographical. This way there is the
ability to reflect on what was occurring in a certain period of one's life and the ability to reflect on
how that experience changed them for better or worse. The second theme was maturing. Both Rob
and I realized that the fear of losing one's adolescence, or innocence, is not as great as the fear of
becoming an adult. Maybe whatever is at the bottom of the abyss is better than standing at the edge
of a cliff. Besides once you've hit rock bottom the only way to go is

Who Is Desdemona's Fidelity In Othello
"Put out the light and then put out the light" (V.II.7). There is a moral theme in the play Othello that
shows a path from the light into the darkness. The infectivity of jealousy darkens the moral compass
of everybody it touches causing the destruction of many lives. Jealousy refers to the thoughts and
feelings of insecurity, fear, concern, and anxiety over the status of something of personal value; how
Othello values Desdemona's fidelity. When jealousy takes root in a mind it causes them to act
irrationally and act against what they usually would. Iago is a man blinded by envy and anger. He
has a goal in mind for everyone to become equally jealous. He completes this goal through his
betrayal and manipulation of characters, specifically Othello. In Othello, Iago aids the path of
jealousy's destruction of lives by implementing it in everyone else's minds.
Roderigo loves Desdemona and would anything for her, but when she marries Othello, Roderigo
becomes jealous of him. Iago realizes this and convinces Roderigo to pay him to get Desdemona to
love him back. Iago gains Roderigo's trust by saying that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Iago tells Othello to "beware, my lord, of jealousy!" (III.III.195) referring to how jealousy can
destroy people. Hearing this, Othello immediately thinks of Cassio and Desdemona since
Desdemona was just pleading for Cassio's sake. This paradox of Othello knowing that jealousy can
destroy him but still allowing it to consume his thoughts shows the weakness of Othello. As Iago
continues to plant more and more images of Desdemona and Cassio in Othello's head, Iago gains
respect from Othello and eventually gains the title of lieutenant which he so desperately wanted.
Even though he finally has what he wants, there is still the issue of "[Othello] has [doing his] office"
(I.III.431). Iago is still jealous and continues to crush Othello with images of

High Fidelity Analysis
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995.
Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (1995) details the struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick
Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming.
Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship
Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also
trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob's problems seem
to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations.
When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and
attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his
relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob's numerous breakups with
women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with
Burke's Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may
only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop
culture. The novel opens with Rob's top five breakups. The list includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny
Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The protagonist is over thirty
years old and he decides to create

Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity Throughout the different careers available in the criminal justice

Through their time and service in the field the average pay, from 2016, is about $61,600 per year,
averaging around $29.62 per hour. There are many positive aspects of the FBI job, however; some
of my favorites are that the agency creates the opportunity to give resources to their employees by
giving resources to give health, happiness and satisfaction in their daily life. And depending on your
cases it would be possible to experience new places and travel, which is a great perk when most of
your time is spent at work. For me, however; the best aspect of this job would be the opportunity to
assist other peoples lives and create a safer environment. Yet with positives always come negatives.
Although you are expected to be completely prepared to put you life on the line it is a highly
negative facet of the job. It could also be very stressful to endure the loss of a case or the fact of not
being able to solve it whatsoever. And as someone who suffers from PTSD, I think the worst part of
this job would be experiencing all of the traumatic events that may occur during the

Cultural Fidelity Essay
The analogy between cultural transmission and genetic inheritance has proven to be a powerful
heuristic in shaping the research program of cultural evolutionary theory. It has served to organize
the explanatory agenda of the field (Mesoudi et al. 2004, 2006; Richerson & Boyd 2005) and to
structure the transfer and adaptation of the formal methods of population biology to the study of
cultural change (Boyd & Richerson 1985; Cavalli–Sforza & Feldman 1981). Moreover, the
identification of disanalogies between the biological and cultural domains have served as stepping
stones for cultural evolutionary theory to move away from a strict adherence to the gene–cultural
analogy and towards developing itself into an increasingly autonomous and productive scientific
program (Laland & Brown 2010; Lewens 2015). Impeding on the theoretical self–determination of
the field, however, is its continuing reliance in understanding the notion of cultural ... Show more

Differently put, the price in lacking a clear definition of cultural fidelity, or in keeping the concept's
meaning bound to the genetic analogy, is equivocation. Different researchers may understand the
meaning of the analogy differently, adopting conflicting notions of fidelity, yet fail to realize that
they do so. Equivocation also opens the door to those disagreeing about the importance of fidelity in
maintaining cultural traditions – and those dissenting on the validity of the analogy – to talk pass
one another. Finally, and more importantly, newcomers to the field of cultural evolution studies may
find the prevalent concept ambiguous, understand the analogy through unchecked idiosyncratic
interpretations, and thus perpetuate its

While normally portrayed as a virtue that will only bring good on a person, truth seems that in the

when professing her love for her Father saying "I love your Majesty/ According to my bond no more

High Fidelity and Music Essay
High Fidelity and Music
In High Fidelity, Rob, the protagonist and narrator, says "I find myself worrying away at that stuff
about pop music again, whether I like it because I'm unhappy, or whether I'm unhappy because I like
it" (168). It is obvious to the reader that Rob has a very strong relationship to pop music but also that
this relationship is not as simple as the either–or dichotomy he describes it as. At first, it is an
obsession that is almost pathological; by the end, it is an aid to his relationships and his idea of who
he is. Rob's relationship to music helps us understand Rob as a character through the different ways
he uses it to interact in his environment – either as a crutch inhibiting his growth or as a way to aid

It is as if he is saying "here, this is me; this is who I am" so if the woman likes the tape, that means
she likes him, which would mean she is condoning who he is, which in turn would cause him to
weave the music that got this approval even more closely into his sense of self. Thus Rob is defined
by music and women he dates rather than through his own eyes. One gets a better idea of this when
Rob and Laura are arguing and Laura says she doesn't like music as much as she used to. Rob says,
"But you see... That's all there is of me. There isn't anything else. If you've lost interest in that,
you've lost interest in everything. What's the point of us?" (265). Here Rob is basically admitting
that he is using Laura to condone a definition of himself that has been created by, that entirely
consists of, music. If she can't do that anymore, there is no point of the relationship.
Another example of this is when Rob wants to sleep with Marie. The pathological aspect of this is
that part of the reason he is attracted to her is that he has always wanted to sleep with a musician.
This would be like circumventing the process of defining himself with music and then getting a
woman to condone this definition and just getting a definition and an approval from the same
source. The reader can see how Rob mingles music with Marie's personality when he says, "She
describes the set–up and her knock–back with wisdom and honesty and a dry,

Examples Of Fidelity In Clueless
The idea of fidelity can limit our understanding of adaptation in many ways. This idea is shown
throughout Clueless, a 1990's adaptation of the novel Emma. Firstly, the theory of fidelity is that, in
order to be successful, adaptations should religiously follow their source text and keep every aspect
of the text identical. The notion in itself is incredibly flawed, as there are many different ways to
adapt a source text and still retain its significance. Also, it supports the claim that an adaptation is
inherently a loss, which is harmful and problematic. It also raises the idea that fidelity is not even
attainable when creating an adaptation as every form of media is an adaptation in some form and it
becomes "harder and harder to think in

Analysis Of Socrates Principle Of Fidelity
Socrates gives Crito three arguments to staying in jail, Principle of Filial Piety, Principle of Fidelity
and Non–Malificence contention.
Socrates' strongest contention is the Principle of Fidelity as he contends that we must keep our
guarantees.
The wrong detainment naturally voids the assention that Socrates has with the state.
Since the state broke confidence with Socrates by shamefully blaming and sentencing him, why then
would it say it is alright for Socrates to break confidence with them? Dworkin contends, "In
practice, the legislature will have the keep going word on what a singular's rights are yet that does
not imply that the administration's perspective is fundamentally the right view".
By Socrates keeping his end of the guarantee to the legislature, he accept that the administration ...

Socrates' second contention is the Principle of Filial Piety.
Socrates' first preface for the contention is that the relationship between a state and a resident is like
the relationship between a guardian and a tyke.
The thought of "Perfectibility" gets to be more risky when Socrates analyzes the relationship of a
subject and its state to a youngster and its parent: "In ignoring us he is defying his guardians we are
the creators of his instruction".
Socrates practiced his rights as a subject and was rebuffed, be that as it may, as per Dworkin's
thought the state committed an error when detaining him for talking his brain.
On the off chance that this were the situation, then why did Socrates talk against the state? The Filial
Piety contention gets to be risky as Socrates repudiates his own particular activities of talking
against government officials.
To finish up, I accept that Socrates ought to escape from jail on the grounds that the Principle of
Fidelity expect that a law is constantly

Why Is Love Without Fidelity
For constancy is an essential constituent of all capacity to believe, and consequently of all religion.
The eminent importance of faithfulness will stand out in a special way against the background of
human relationships. (Here faithfulness is taken in its narrow sense, i.e. fidelity.) For what is love
without fidelity? In the ultimate analysis, it is nothing but a lie. For the deepest meaning of every
love, the inner "word" uttered in love, is the interior orientation toward and giving of oneself to the
beloved, a giving which knows no time limit. No fluctuation in the course of life can shatter it. Only
a deep change in the beloved person can affect our love if it be true love. A man who would say: "I

This holds good for every love, for parental and filial love, for friendship and for spousal love. The
deeper a love, the more it is pervaded by fidelity. It is precisely in this faithfulness that we find the
specific moral splendor, the chaste beauty of love. The especially touching element of love, as
expressed so uniquely in Beethoven's "Fidelio," is essentially tied up with fidelity. The unalterable
fidelity of a mother's love, the victorious faithfulness of a friend, possess a specific moral beauty
which touches the man whose heart is opened to values. Faithfulness is at the heart of every true and
deep love. It is immanent to its very nature. On the other hand, what is more base or more repulsive
than outspoken unfaithfulness, that radical opposition to fidelity, which is far worse than mere
inconstancy. What a heinous moral stain marks the traitor who by infidelity pierces the very heart
which has confidently opened itself to him, and offers itself unprotected to him. He who is

Desdemona's View Of Fidelity In Othello
In this scene of Othello, Shakespeare explores the characterization of Desdemona and Emilia to
portray their opposing views on fidelity. As Shakespeare reveals, Desdemona's naivety makes her
unsupportive of any form of disloyalty, however, Emilia's wordly nature argues for the wife's right
to sleep with someone else once their husband has already cheated. Not only does the two women's
traits present different perspectives to a problem but it brings them closer together.
As Desdemona walks back to her room with Emilia, after Othello has commanded her to go to bed,
she begins to think about fidelity. She can't fathom "that there be women [that] abuse their husbands
in such gross kind." (p. 211) Desdemona seems to still hold onto the childish concept that cheating
is an obscure institution and an act which is only committed by the worlds' villains. When Emilia
states that "there be such, no question,"(211) she contradicts Desdemona's belief by explaining of
course their are women who also cheat on their husbands. This candid view about humans exhibits
how Emilia is knowledgeable and more seasoned than Desdemona. Shakespeare continues to prove
that Emilia has no rosy delusions about people as she expresses her opinions about ... Show more

because she supports cheating, however Shakespeare contrasts Emilia with Desdemona's innocent
outlook to make the

State Fidelity In The Odyssey
Odysseus, the main character of The Odyssey, is a man of great courage who is married to Penelope,
Queen of Ithaca. Even though it is clear that Odysseus is married to Penelope, he is involved in
intimate relations with a few goddesses on his journey home to Ithaca from the Trojan War. For
example, regardless of Odysseus' longing to return home, he is tempted first by Calypso, spending
eight years imprisoned on her island, and ultimately remaining true to Penelope in his heart. Also, he
spends a year with Circe, a seductress, in order to liberate his men from living as swine.
Furthermore, Odysseus' faithfulness to Penelope is almost compromised when he and his men pass
the Sirens–women who entice men to their "death" utilizing their beautiful voices. Additionally,
Greek and Christian marriage standards are distinctly different. Christians believe that marriage is a
sacrament, or union between one man and one woman that is blessed by the church, while pagans
hold to a belief of self–uniting marriage known as "handfasting"– a historical term for a betrothal or
wedding that is sometimes acknowledged as a temporary engagement. This paper will explain how

And Laura, frustrated with Rob, says there was a 9% chance of them working things completely out.
Rob was so happy with that answer that he goes out and sleeps with the musician he had listened to
at the pub in London, Marie. Even after his actions with Marie, Rob does not even think about
giving up his love for Laura just yet. In the midst of all of this happening, Rob begins to realize that

Fidelity, Bravery, And Integrity
"Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity." That is the motto. On July 26, 1908, U.S. Attorney General
Charles Bonaparte ordered a group of newly hired federal investigators to report to Chief Examiner
Stanley W. Finch of the Department of Justice. About one year later, the Office of Chief Examiners
was renamed the Bureau of Investigators. It later became the Federal Bureau of Investigators in
1935. With headquarters in Washington D.C, the FBI is our prime source of investigative resources
and responsible for more than 200 crime categories.

The selection process is intimidating. Real–life FBI work is much different than the things that may
be seen on television. This job requires the ability to stay focused, a high intelligence level, as well

it be from physical altercations or car accidents. Two deaths have also occurred during the training
process as trainees attempted to "fast–rope" out of a helicopter. The hours are highly unpredictable
as well. When considering this career, one should think realistically. One could imagine that a career
such as this is nothing like what I shown on TV where the team is constantly flying out to catch" bad

possibilities, it is also very likely for agents to not leave the office at all. Long hours behind a desk

In investigating about the evaluation procedures for many different positions of a school, I learned a
great deal about how, when, and why. There is a system in place for most employees and their
evaluation procedures. Teachers are evaluated according to their license status and the previous
year's TVAAS score. This can mean they have anywhere between two to six evaluations throughout
the year. Some will be scheduled but others are unannounced to allow for teacher accountability. On
top of these evaluations, teachers are also check upon during Response to Intervention (RTI). These
checks are called "fidelity checks" and are used to ensure teachers are following state procedures put

Literary Criticism Of High Fidelity

  • 1. Literary Criticism Of High Fidelity Danica Popović Nina Ivanović–Muždeka Contemporary English Novel December, 2015 High Fidelity: Genre analysis 'Leaves you believing not only in the redemptive power of music but above all the redemptive power of love. Funny and wise, sweet and true.' – Mick Brown, 'Independent' Introduction Nick Hornby's first novel High Fidelity, published in 1995 tells a tale about a man holding on to his past through the music of the 70s and 80s. It is a story about break–ups and relationships, about feelings and memories, about music, friends and all life's disappointments. Hornby graduated from Jesus' College and is very well–educated in literature. His style of writing however seems to be quite light and easy to read as he was influenced by Lorri Moore ... The characters are not perfect, they are flawed just like real people are and they use everyday speech with cursing and swearing. The occurances which happen are unfolded in a convincing way and are not fairy tale like. • 5. Eternal Fidelity Quotes Independent Study Unit Update #1: Love in the Time of Cholera The author's purpose: The author Gabriel Marquez conveys through Love In The Time of Cholera, lovesickness is an illness, a plague that is comparable to Cholera. Gabriel conveys this using the main characters eternal fidelity, love leading to physical suffering and emotional emptiness. Eternal Fidelity: One of the main character Floretino Ariza has eternal love for the other main character Fermina Doza. Florentino's undying love Fermina can be seen as obsessive and psychotic at times due to their forbidden relationship ending suddenly. Form: Florentino has waited over 51 years to declare his undying love for Fermina. Florentino did not care if Fermina's husband has just passed away, he is already to 'save' Fermina's heart. This can prove irony in this novel due to Florentino showing up just in time of this sudden death to re–unite with his one, true love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Love leading to physical suffering: Florentino shows an obsessive behaviour towards Fermina which lead him to be sick and suffer Cholera 'like' symptoms when he ate flowers so he can remember Fermina since she smells like flowers. Form: Florentino described his physical agony of vomiting after eating flowers and drinking cologne resulting in diarrhea and green vomit. Florentino felt the urgent need to do this because he wants to remember Fermina's scent. This proves as both physical and emotional suffering which literally resulted in plague 'like' symptoms. The flowers could represent symbolism. Florentino is willing to die by eating flower and drinking cologne just to remember Fermina. Quote: "Crowned goddess, which he composes in her honor, after seeing her wearing a crown of flowers, atop her head." (page 62). "He took pleasure in his pain." (page ... • 9. Fidelity Is Not A Sense Of Fidelity Fidelity is faithfulness to a person, cause or belief demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support. It seems that we as humans strive to obtain a sense of fidelity, yet they cannot when it comes to their relationships with others. Individuals are incapable of remaining committed in relationships. This has been proven through not only psychological research, but in literature as well. In the scholarly articles from Psychology Today, it states that Americans seem to value the idea of fidelity and faithfulness, but have a hard time achieving it. The researchers believe that individuals suffer from marital myths, that in turn can cause a partner to commit acts of adultery. This happened directly with the character John from The Miller's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They find a different outlet for their need. Humans cannot seem to find happiness with only one person, they stray off showing that they cant be loyal or committed to anything in life. Temptation was also a resounding reason throughout the article. Individuals see someone else, who they may see as a challenge or simply someone who draws their attention, and lack of better judgement kicks in. "...Many of us are tempted by the delights of the new, especially those of the sexual variety." People become unsatisfied and indulge in pleasure with a new partner. According to the researchers, individuals seem to be incapable of following through to the promises they made to their significant other. The vow of for better or for worse seems to be forgotten because they cannot commit to the meaning behind those words. They contradict themselves, they say they love their partner, but are unfaithful behind their back. But sometimes infidelity can root in simply just not being happy with who you are with anymore. They just don 't make you feel the way you felt when you had first gotten together. The relationship is no longer enjoyable and becomes a burden. Essentially, individuals are susceptible to cheat, and sometimes the temptation and curiosity becomes too overwhelming to fight. Many of these ideas are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A year after graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Business Administration in 1968, he began working for Fidelity Investments where he had previously been hired as an intern in the summer of 1966. While at Fidelity, Lynch managed to successfully increase the Magellan Fund from $20 million with only 40 stocks in the portfolio to $14 billion with 1,400 stocks, averaging an annual return of 29.2%, as well as consistently outperforming the S&P 500 market index. This is why Peter Lynch greatly emphasizes throughout his book on the importance of only investing in companies of which you fully understand the nature of their business and believe in it. Peter Lynch poses three important questions to the investor in order to self–evaluate their financial position as well as mental state before deciding to invest in the stock market: (1) Do I own a home? He advises that buying a house first is the best type of investment you can make as it, in the long– run, just as stocks, always appreciates in value. (2) Do I need the money now? Only invest money you can afford to lose and will not be needing in the near future. (3) Do I poses the personal qualities necessary to succeed in stocks? Some of the personal qualities Lynch deems necessary are lots of patience, ability to ignore the general panic, tolerance for pain, open mindedness, persistence, and common sense. In his book Lynch talks about developing the "company story" before investing in the stocks of any company. In the novel and film, High Fidelity, Rob Gordon cannot put the pieces of his life together as he struggles to form a strong relationship with the people around him. It was a long and hard conflict he had to face, though he was able to learn the absolute "Truth", or noumena, of reality. Similar to Rob, all I wanted was my life to be one. I had this mindset that I had to fit into something. Whether this something was the "in" crowd, the artists, the writers, the jocks, I wanted to feel like I'm part of a larger group. • 29. Fidelity Vs. The Odyssey Essay Pietro Elie Mr. Lewis F Band 12/8/16 How Fidelity Drives The Odyssey Fidelity is the crucial virtue in The Odyssey. Fidelity is what drives the story of Odysseus's journey: it is both Odysseus 's reason for returning home and the means for him to get home. In the course of the story, Homer dramatizes the nature of fidelity by contrasting different forms of fidelity and their opposites. This essay will examine three forms of fidelity and the roles they play in Odysseus 's journey. The most noticeable form of fidelity is sexual fidelity, or faithfulness. Odysseus loves his wife, Penelope, and he wants nothing more than to get back home to her; and for him, the fullest expression of being "back with her" would be back in bed with her. And yet Odysseus sleeps with a couple of other women during his journey home, and he does so willingly. Describing Odysseus's last day with Calypso, Homer says, "And now, withdrawing into the cavern 's deep recesses, in each other 's arms they lost themselves in love." (book 5, lines 250–251) What they feel is "love" not just lust, or passion; that "they lost themselves" shows that they felt it mutually. This is obviously Odysseus sleeping with Calypso willingly and enjoying it. Later in the story, he is unfaithful to Penelope again when he sleeps with Circe: "Straightaway she began to swear the oath I required– never, she'd never do me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Old Men Fidelity Adaptation between literary and visual media frequently involves the problematic notion of 'fidelity', or the degree of faithfulness with which a preceding work is reproduced. Conspicuous debates have been spouted among various scholars and critics concerning this prominent issue. In the screen adaptation of No Country for Old Men, filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen utilize an audio–visual sign system of film in order to convey a new level of symbolism within the diegesis. As a result, the issue of 'fidelity discourse' is raised due to the elision of key dialogue from Cormac McCarthy's precursor text. A variety of approaches have been proposed by academics in order to judge the notion of fidelity with regard to No Country for Old Men. In an interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identical to the exchange with the gas station owner, Chigurh's coin toss proposition to Carla Jean is consistent in the novel and the film. McCarthy's dialogue between Chigurh and Carla Jean is lengthier, more shrewd yet cognizant in the novel when compared to the film. In the context of this scene, it can be argued that further development of Carla Jean's character could significantly impact the viewer's overall understanding of the dynamic between her and Chigurh. Thus, the Coens have deliberately elided dialogue in this scene to assert Chigurh's recurring cycle of ruthless degradation of his victims. Carla Jean's response to Chigurh's coin toss proposal is significantly different in both the novel and the film. Consequently, a new symbolic meaning is developed amid the interaction. In the novel, Carla Jean calls 'tails' however due to misfortune, the result is 'heads'. In contrast to the novel, the film has elided Carla Jean's acceptance of the toss. In the novel, McCarthy's Carla Jean appears to be powerless and easily willing to accept her fate. However in the film, the character is approached in a contrasting manner where the Coens have moulded her into a self–reliant, assertive woman. In her final act of defiance, she simply states that she does not have to listen to Chigurh's coin philosophy, and in doing so, she denies Chigurh of his incentive. Through Carla ... The ego virtue to be gained here is fidelity – more specifically, the ability to sustain loyalties and make commitments to yourself and others. Erikson claims, "we have almost an instinct for fidelity – meaning that when you reach a certain age you can and must learn to be faithful to some ideological view." (Evans, 1967). Without the development of a capacity for fidelity the individual will have a weak ego or will have to look elsewhere for something to be faithful to. • 45. Definition Essay On Open Relationships Have you found yourself asking, "What is an open relationship" or "Are we in an open relationship?" If so, hopefully it isn't because you agreed to such a relationship without understanding what it really means. If you and your partner want to have a successful relationship (open or not), it's absolutely critical to have clarity on your expectations of each other. This is rarely more important than when committing to a non–traditional arrangement. Okay... back to the question. What exactly does it mean to have a relationship that's open? The complicated thing is that the term has different meanings to different people, so take a look at some of these categories and come to a finite agreement with your partner on some open relationship rules. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A relationship like this may or may not include full disclosure. In some cases, the faithful partner accepts that there will be outside relationships but doesn't want to discuss it at all. Swinging One of the more controversial types of open relationships is the swinger lifestyle. In an open relationship that includes couples dating others, there is often a focus on "togetherness" in the affairs. In some cases, the couple dates other couples; however, there are many cases where the couple adds a single third party to the relationship. The primary relationship comes first, but both partners are open to fully disclosed outside relationships. When this is strictly sexual, a third (or fourth or fifth or whatever) person may simply be included on occasion. Swinging exists in a variety of other forms as well. In some cases, there may be a multitude of people committed to openly sharing each other while forsaking all outside parties. Summary: High-Fidelity Collaboration Experiences Discussion This study showed a significant affect in interdisciplinary collaborative abilities between allied health students exposed to a traditional ICU clinical experience and those that have had a combination of clinical and interdisciplinary simulation experiences. High–fidelity clinical simulation offers an excellent opportunity for inexperienced allied health teams to practice demanding clinical simulations. The interdisciplinary format offered, to four disciplines, a safe environment to practice interpersonal skills, communication, and improve collaborative abilities. Importance of study Limited access to clinical placements and a lack of consistency in students' experiences within the clinical setting increasingly require allied health programs to rely on a combination of clinical and simulation experiences to facilitate the development of clinical competence, collaborative abilities, and interdisciplinary communication skills. • 53. Analysis Of Lolita 's Tehran, And Fidelity When entering this unit of postmodernism, my only thoughts were of a reluctant nature. I pessimistically expected only disagreement and frustration from reading the works of Life of Pi, Reading Lolita in Tehran, and Fidelity. However, my initial expectations were completely and thankfully wrecked. Though the philosophies of both Martel and Nafisi contradict my own, there are endless gems of insight to be plundered from their writings. These postmodern works emphasize where we as humans find our identity and how religion plays into that identity. Contrary to my presumptions, I learned so much from reading these novels woven with postmodernists thought and can say with confidence that I am a better and more educated person for having read them. Postmodernism is not a wholly cohesive ideology that can be covered in a single blanket statement. It is more of an umbrella that contains many miscellaneous modern conceptions of things. (Uhhhh citation, idrk) There is an over–arching theme, however, that rejects objective truth. This belief would argue that truth can be constructed by each person individually. For Pi, this meant his house could be a temple for gods from Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam (Martel 45–46). It did not matter that those religions were not congruous, he just wanted "to love God" (Martel 69). His truth was that "all religions are true" (Martel 69). Ethics: Beneficence And Fidelity In Nursing Although the concept of principles guiding right and wrong conduct is not new to nursing, professional ethics has received increasing attention in nursing circles. Professionals such as nursing require a code of ethics on which practice can be based and evaluated (Black , 2017). There are sic ethical principles based on human dignity and respect: autonomy, beneficence, non–maleficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. Today, I will talk about two ethics that nurses have to face a lot in patient care: beneficence and fidelity. Beneficence can be defined as "to do good for patients" (Black , 2017). This principle is based on the belief that the education and experience of nurses enable them to make decisions that serve patients' best interest (Chiduku, 2016). Beneficent actions can be taken to help prevent or remove harms or to simply improve the situation of others. Nurses are required to do well and to choose the "best option" of care under ... To override patients' decisions and invoke professional authority to take action that nurses view as in patients' best interests is viewed as paternalism and interferes with the freedom and rights of patients. For example, when a nurse chooses to perform a pain assessment and request and order for medication from a doctor as one of the first interventions, it is an act of beneficence. For instance beneficence can be seen as working above and beyond for the patients, making sure they have everything they need including discharge instructions without making them feel helpless. • 61. The Codes Of Fidelity And Hospitality In Modern Society In modern society the codes of behavior are described as etiquette that each society member is expected to follow. In ancient Greek culture it was very essential to follow codes of behavior. In the first half of odyssey there are several codes of behavior spotted like hospitality, vengenance, fidelity, household loyalty, and reverence. The particular types of codes of behavior that will be discussed in this essay are fidelity and hospitality. Hospitality is an important aspect in society where guests are treated as though they were god. Fidelity code is loyalty between husband and wife being loyal to each other. Both codes will be taken into the account and illustrated with example from the first half of The Odyssey. One of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loyalty to family, society and the gods is an important aspect in ancient Greek culture. This quality is often seen between characters throughout The Odysseyas specially loyalty between husband and wife. Loyalty could be defined based on The Odyssey to be devoted to someone, hoping their homecoming and victory. Again and again loyalty is seen in the complete fidelity in the time of uncertainty. Penelope waits tem long years for her husband to return from war and on the other hand Odysseus showing loyalty to Penelope refuses immortality to Kalypso and also refuses to marry Circe. When Suitors forces Penelope to marry, Penelope being clever executes a plan telling suitors, ''Young man, my suitors now that the great Odysseus has perished, wait, though you are eager to marry me, until I finish this web, so that my weaving will not be useless and wasted. This is a shroud for the hero Laertes for when the destructive doom of death which lays men low shall take him, lest any Achaian woman in this neighborhood hold it against me(Book II 96–103)'', like this Penelope would weave the web daytime and undo it at night. • 65. High Fidelity Rob's Relationship In Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, Rob, a record obsessed music fanatic, is contemplating his recent break–up with his long–term girlfriend, Laura. The book features a period of soul–searching for Rob, as he tries to find closure for all of his relationships with women and attempts to find his purpose in life. Hornby uses the character of Rob, Rob's relationship with Laura and the contrast between Rob, Dick and Barry to show that hobbies can be used to interact with the environment in different ways. Although they can often be used as a crutch inhibiting growth, they are more often shown as a way to aid self–development. Rob is an unmarried thirty–five year old man. He loves music and works in a record store. Records are his most prized possessions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rob met Laura while he was working as a DJ. Rob says that "[Laura] came up to my little rostrum thing and spoke to me, and I liked her straightaway: she asked me to play a record that I really loved" (87). Their relationship began because they shared a similar interest in music. If Laura had not liked the music Rob played, she would not have returned to the Groucho Club or even spoken to Rob and they would have never met. Likewise, if Rob had not been passionate about music, he would not have been a DJ and would never have organized the Groucho Club. However, Laura left Robert because she did not think he was mature enough for her, something Rob was quick to blame on his interest in music. In Rob's opinion, Laura left him because his obsession for music and his career in the music industry made him undesirable. On the other hand, Laura and Rob salvaged their relationship with the help of music. When they start seeing each other again, their romantic life is tense for an extended period of time and Laura tells Rob that "[he is] certainly not happy" (271). She decides to re–establish the Groucho Club as it is the only job that really fulfilled Rob. • 69. High Fidelity Analysis Great writers create great characters. The novel, High Fidelity, focuses on the life of Rob, owner of a record store who his girlfriend just left him for another guy. Rob tells and describes the stories of his relationships and his breakups. He faces many struggles because of the decisions he made himself in the past. Hornby created Rob and Laura as believable characters and made Rob a victim of himself to describe the flaws in human beings. When Rob introduces his past girlfriends, he had many friends and many girlfriends, but he ruined it all. Rob had a great relationship with Penny and she was a nice girl. Rob would get frustrated with Penny because she "wouldn't let me put my hand underneath or even on top of her bra" therefore he "was finished with her, although obviously I didn't tell her why" (10). This characterizes Rob because he did not want to have a long, slow relationship he wanted to get in bed with the girls. When Rob described his top five break–ups, Jackie Allen was third on the list. Jackie was the girlfriends of one of his friends named Paul. But Rob betrayed Paul's friendship and "pinched her off him, slowly, patiently, over a period of months" (15). Hornby characterizes Rob as a horrible friend who will do anything to anyone for personal gain. Rob dated Jackie while she was dating Paul. When Jackie finally ended her relationship with Paul, she called Rob and told him she "wanted to go out on a walk" and then they "weren't doing anything in secret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before senior year being naive and ignorant was my forte. Similar to Rob in the film High Fidelity who did not grow up until he realized that he is no longer the adolescent he once was and needs to mature, not only his sake but, for the sake of those around him. There seems to be a connection between growing up and jumping into an abyss. Maturity comes with an intense amount of fear. Rob is afraid of commitment because he knows it means he can no longer sleep around and keep being the adolescent he once was. Making a good mix–tape requires patience and delicacy. It is a representation of what one is feeling either in times of distress or excitement. A mix–tape should not be chronologically or alphabetically because life does not occur this way. A good mix–tape is autobiographical. This way there is the ability to reflect on what was occurring in a certain period of one's life and the ability to reflect on how that experience changed them for better or worse. The second theme was maturing. Both Rob and I realized that the fear of losing one's adolescence, or innocence, is not as great as the fear of becoming an adult. • 77. Who Is Desdemona's Fidelity In Othello "Put out the light and then put out the light" (V.II.7). There is a moral theme in the play Othello that shows a path from the light into the darkness. The infectivity of jealousy darkens the moral compass of everybody it touches causing the destruction of many lives. Jealousy refers to the thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, concern, and anxiety over the status of something of personal value; how Othello values Desdemona's fidelity. When jealousy takes root in a mind it causes them to act irrationally and act against what they usually would. Iago is a man blinded by envy and anger. He has a goal in mind for everyone to become equally jealous. He completes this goal through his betrayal and manipulation of characters, specifically Othello. In Othello, Iago aids the path of jealousy's destruction of lives by implementing it in everyone else's minds. Roderigo loves Desdemona and would anything for her, but when she marries Othello, Roderigo becomes jealous of him. • 81. High Fidelity Analysis High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995. Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (1995) details the struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob's problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob's numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke's Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob's top five breakups. The list includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The protagonist is over thirty years old and he decides to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural Fidelity Essay The analogy between cultural transmission and genetic inheritance has proven to be a powerful heuristic in shaping the research program of cultural evolutionary theory. It has served to organize the explanatory agenda of the field (Mesoudi et al. 2004, 2006; Richerson & Boyd 2005) and to structure the transfer and adaptation of the formal methods of population biology to the study of cultural change (Boyd & Richerson 1985; Cavalli–Sforza & Feldman 1981). Moreover, the identification of disanalogies between the biological and cultural domains have served as stepping stones for cultural evolutionary theory to move away from a strict adherence to the gene–cultural analogy and towards developing itself into an increasingly autonomous and productive scientific program (Laland & Brown 2010; Lewens 2015). High Fidelity and Music Essay High Fidelity and Music In High Fidelity, Rob, the protagonist and narrator, says "I find myself worrying away at that stuff about pop music again, whether I like it because I'm unhappy, or whether I'm unhappy because I like it" (168). It is obvious to the reader that Rob has a very strong relationship to pop music but also that this relationship is not as simple as the either–or dichotomy he describes it as. At first, it is an obsession that is almost pathological; by the end, it is an aid to his relationships and his idea of who he is. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is as if he is saying "here, this is me; this is who I am" so if the woman likes the tape, that means she likes him, which would mean she is condoning who he is, which in turn would cause him to weave the music that got this approval even more closely into his sense of self. Thus Rob is defined by music and women he dates rather than through his own eyes. One gets a better idea of this when Rob and Laura are arguing and Laura says she doesn't like music as much as she used to. Rob says, "But you see... That's all there is of me. There isn't anything else. If you've lost interest in that, you've lost interest in everything. What's the point of us?" (265). Here Rob is basically admitting that he is using Laura to condone a definition of himself that has been created by, that entirely consists of, music. If she can't do that anymore, there is no point of the relationship. Another example of this is when Rob wants to sleep with Marie. The pathological aspect of this is that part of the reason he is attracted to her is that he has always wanted to sleep with a musician. This would be like circumventing the process of defining himself with music and then getting a woman to condone this definition and just getting a definition and an approval from the same source. The reader can see how Rob mingles music with Marie's personality when he says, "She describes the set–up and her knock–back with wisdom and honesty and a dry, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The notion in itself is incredibly flawed, as there are many different ways to adapt a source text and still retain its significance. The eminent importance of faithfulness will stand out in a special way against the background of human relationships. (Here faithfulness is taken in its narrow sense, i.e. fidelity.) For what is love without fidelity? In the ultimate analysis, it is nothing but a lie. For the deepest meaning of every love, the inner "word" uttered in love, is the interior orientation toward and giving of oneself to the beloved, a giving which knows no time limit. As Shakespeare reveals, Desdemona's naivety makes her unsupportive of any form of disloyalty, however, Emilia's wordly nature argues for the wife's right to sleep with someone else once their husband has already cheated. Not only does the two women's traits present different perspectives to a problem but it brings them closer together. As Desdemona walks back to her room with Emilia, after Othello has commanded her to go to bed, she begins to think about fidelity. She can't fathom "that there be women [that] abuse their husbands in such gross kind." (p. 211) Desdemona seems to still hold onto the childish concept that cheating is an obscure institution and an act which is only committed by the worlds' villains. When Emilia states that "there be such, no question,"(211) she contradicts Desdemona's belief by explaining of course their are women who also cheat on their husbands. High Fidelity Quotes The central character in High Fidelity, Rob Fleming, through the duration of the book grows from a man who doesn't appreciate the lady he is with and refuses to admit his feelings, to a man who loves and needs Laura. After the two separate, he realizes that he is alone, he starts to realize the importance Laura had on his life and how much he misses her. Luckily, a second chance is soon given to Rob, in which prior that time Rob realizes what he had with her. "Can you see your name in that lot, Laura? I'd reckon you'd sneak into the top ten, but there's no place for you in the top five; those place are reserved for the kind of humiliations and heartbreaks that you're just not capable of delivering" (Hornby 3). Eventually, Rob comes to learn that Laura is sharing an apartment with another man named Ian, who lives just upstairs above Rob. Interestingly, Rob and Laura are still in the stages of "picking stuff up" in terms of their relationship. Rob constantly felt the need asking, "So is there any chance of us getting back together?". (Hornby, 104) And Laura, frustrated with Rob, says there was a 9% chance of them working things completely out. Rob was so happy with that answer that he goes out and sleeps with the musician he had listened to at the pub in London, Marie. Even after his actions with Marie, Rob does not even think about giving up his love for Laura just yet. In the midst of all of this happening, Rob begins to realize that he has not gone on to live his life to its full potential. On July 26, 1908, U.S. Attorney General Charles Bonaparte ordered a group of newly hired federal investigators to report to Chief Examiner Stanley W. Finch of the Department of Justice. About one year later, the Office of Chief Examiners was renamed the Bureau of Investigators. It later became the Federal Bureau of Investigators in 1935. With headquarters in Washington D.C, the FBI is our prime source of investigative resources and responsible for more than 200 crime categories. In 1870, when the Department of Justice was created to enforce the federal laws and coordinate different policies, there was not a set staff. Private detectives were hired when federal crimes needed to be investigated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The selection process is intimidating. Real–life FBI work is much different than the things that may be seen on television. This job requires the ability to stay focused, a high intelligence level, as well as education. Law enforcement is one of the leading careers resulting in death and/or injury, whether it be from physical altercations or car accidents. Two deaths have also occurred during the training process as trainees attempted to "fast–rope" out of a helicopter. The hours are highly unpredictable as well. When considering this career, one should think realistically. One could imagine that a career such as this is nothing like what I shown on TV where the team is constantly flying out to catch" bad guys." Although staking out overnight and remaining undercover for years are two likely possibilities, it is also very likely for agents to not leave the office at all. Long hours behind a desk with all different types of paperwork are hardly ever portrayed on television shows. Agents often have long days with long hours with a lot of undercover assignments. All agents are constantly on call. As the FBI says on its website, "This is definitely not a nine–to–five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a system in place for most employees and their evaluation procedures. Teachers are evaluated according to their license status and the previous year's TVAAS score. This can mean they have anywhere between two to six evaluations throughout the year. Some will be scheduled but others are unannounced to allow for teacher accountability. On top of these evaluations, teachers are also check upon during Response to Intervention (RTI). These checks are called "fidelity checks" and are used to ensure teachers are following state procedures put into place regarding their tier and student needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
