This document proposes transitioning Litchfield Middle School to a middle school model for the 2015-2016 school year and beyond. It outlines the key differences between a traditional middle school model and junior high model, noting middle school is more student-oriented, emphasizes cognitive and affective development, uses interdisciplinary teaching teams, and offers more exploratory classes. It also discusses the rapid changes that occur for young adolescents aged 10-15. The proposal includes plans to roll out the new middle school model to teachers and the Board of Education in May and June. It outlines work that will be done to create Litchfield Middle School's mission, review curriculum to incorporate personalized and project-based learning, and provide professional development for teachers.
