This study examines patterns of credit recovery and student satisfaction for at-risk high school students enrolled in an online credit recovery program called Education2020. The study analyzes credit recovery data from 220 students across four high schools to determine if student characteristics predict satisfaction or pace of credit recovery. A survey gathered student demographic data and satisfaction levels, while credit recovery data from one quarter revealed patterns for 67 seniors. The study uses social cognitive theory and engagement theory to understand how student characteristics interact with the online learning environment to influence outcomes. The results could help determine if online credit recovery is an effective option for this at-risk student population.
Impact of the Quality of University Education on Labour Market in Sri Lanka.
The unemployment rate of graduates is being a major threat to the economic growth of Sri Lanka during the past decade. The reason for this unemployment was evident as the mismatch between the labour market expectation and skills acquired by the graduates. During past years due to the establishment of private universities a huge competition is being observed among public and private university graduates to secure their places in the labour market. Thus this research aims to explore the relationship between quality of the university education and labour market performance of graduates. This research studied the objectives via questionnaire with 5 point likert scale with 100 employed business graduates from selected three firms and with HR managers of the respective firms. The collected data was analyzed through Pearson’s correlation test and by simple linear regression analysis. The study concluded that the quality of education has a weak impact on the labour market outcome in Sri Lanka. Moreover it also pointed out that although the personality trait as the sub variable of quality of education, it has no significant impact on the labour market outcome. The increased mismatch between the quality of university education and the labour market outcome occurs due to the benchmark on the quality of education set by the HR managers.

By 2020, 65% of all jobs will require education beyond high school like bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, or certificates. While a high school diploma alone will no longer provide sufficient qualifications, specific technical or healthcare support careers may not demand as much postsecondary education. States will need to boost rates of citizens achieving education past high school to meet future workforce needs.
Millennials and College Planning
Millennials face significant financial hurdles in pursuing higher education. Only 19% of students attend their top choice school due to cost, and most students (57%) did not attend their first choice last year. Financial aid is a major factor for 60% of students, and many cannot afford their top picks without assistance. Significant student loan debt burdens many graduates, with over 30% paying more than $300 per month. While a bachelor's degree on average leads to $17,500 more in annual earnings, rising costs mean students must carefully consider their options such as community colleges. A degree remains important for employment but real-world experience through internships provides valuable skills.
The Employability Gap: Five Ways to Improve Employability Outcomes in Higher Ed
Colleges are rewarded for enrollment numbers and there is increasing attention on graduation rates, yet very little if any attention is paid to student placement and earnings. Considering the massive investment required for higher education, aren't these valuable measures as well? In this session, Michael Bettersworth makes the case why degrees increasingly matter less, competencies are the real currency, and student success is about much more than enrollment numbers or graduation rates. It's also about getting a job.
Michael Bettersworth is the associate vice chancellor for technology advancement at the Texas State Technical College System. Shortly after joining TSTC in 2002, Michael founded TSTC Forecasting to identify and analyze new technical competencies needed by employers. The core purpose of this work is to improve student employability through curriculum alignment with market demand. TSTC Forecasting has published over 28 studies on emerging technologies and occupations leading to new college curriculum in nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy, video games, manufacturing, healthcare among other topics. New studies are currently underway in big data, unmanned aerial systems, and social media. Michael's current work focuses on the development of a new higher education funding model based on exiter earnings, the use of real-time labor market data for curriculum alignment, college program evaluations using placement and earnings data, and curriculum development through a common skills language in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission. Michael is an unconventional thinker, an informed speaker, and a staunch advocate for the important role of education in our nation's shared prosperity.

The higher education landscape in the US is changing in several ways. There are over 7,000 colleges and universities, but many smaller schools with under 1,000 students face closure due to financial challenges. Students are also more mobile, attending multiple schools over time. The student body is increasingly diverse in terms of age, background, and needs, requiring more support services. To prepare students for technical careers as well as life, schools are focusing more on teaching skills like teamwork, communication, and problem solving. Faculty roles are shifting as well, with more contingent and part-time instructors, and teaching becoming more interactive using new technologies.

A study surveyed rural college students on their use of social media, social networks, and organizations' employment portals in their job searches. It found that:
- 59% viewed their social media and network presence as important in finding work, though managing their presence was not a high priority.
- Most believed employers would check their online profiles and that these profiles accurately portrayed their character.
- Social media, networks, and portals were seen as very or somewhat helpful resources.
- Common outcomes of using these platforms included making new contacts, sharing opportunities, and referrals, though few led directly to job offers.
- Students expected to increase their future use of these tools compared to past searches.

The US economy is expected to create 55 million job openings by 2020 as baby boomers retire and new positions are created. Most of the fastest growing fields - STEM, healthcare, and community services - will require postsecondary education. By 2020, 65% of all jobs will require education beyond high school like bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, or certificates. While a high school diploma alone will no longer provide sufficient qualifications, specific technical or healthcare support careers may not demand as much postsecondary education. States will need to boost rates of citizens achieving education past high school to meet future workforce needs.
Millennials and College Planning
Millennials face significant financial hurdles in pursuing higher education. Only 19% of students attend their top choice school due to cost, and most students (57%) did not attend their first choice last year. Financial aid is a major factor for 60% of students, and many cannot afford their top picks without assistance. Significant student loan debt burdens many graduates, with over 30% paying more than $300 per month. While a bachelor's degree on average leads to $17,500 more in annual earnings, rising costs mean students must carefully consider their options such as community colleges. A degree remains important for employment but real-world experience through internships provides valuable skills.
The Employability Gap: Five Ways to Improve Employability Outcomes in Higher Ed
Colleges are rewarded for enrollment numbers and there is increasing attention on graduation rates, yet very little if any attention is paid to student placement and earnings. Considering the massive investment required for higher education, aren't these valuable measures as well? In this session, Michael Bettersworth makes the case why degrees increasingly matter less, competencies are the real currency, and student success is about much more than enrollment numbers or graduation rates. It's also about getting a job.
Michael Bettersworth is the associate vice chancellor for technology advancement at the Texas State Technical College System. Shortly after joining TSTC in 2002, Michael founded TSTC Forecasting to identify and analyze new technical competencies needed by employers. The core purpose of this work is to improve student employability through curriculum alignment with market demand. TSTC Forecasting has published over 28 studies on emerging technologies and occupations leading to new college curriculum in nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy, video games, manufacturing, healthcare among other topics. New studies are currently underway in big data, unmanned aerial systems, and social media. Michael's current work focuses on the development of a new higher education funding model based on exiter earnings, the use of real-time labor market data for curriculum alignment, college program evaluations using placement and earnings data, and curriculum development through a common skills language in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission. Michael is an unconventional thinker, an informed speaker, and a staunch advocate for the important role of education in our nation's shared prosperity.

The higher education landscape in the US is changing in several ways. There are over 7,000 colleges and universities, but many smaller schools with under 1,000 students face closure due to financial challenges. Students are also more mobile, attending multiple schools over time. The student body is increasingly diverse in terms of age, background, and needs, requiring more support services. To prepare students for technical careers as well as life, schools are focusing more on teaching skills like teamwork, communication, and problem solving. Faculty roles are shifting as well, with more contingent and part-time instructors, and teaching becoming more interactive using new technologies.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
