Overview
 Library data
 Linked data
 Converting library data to linked data
 Distribution
 Benefits of linked library data
Library data are not very readable

Library data in XML are still
not very readable

Linked data principles
Thou shalt:
 Use URIs as names for things.
 Use HTTP URIs so that people can look up
      those names.
 When someone looks up a URI, provide
useful information, using the standards (RDF,
      SPARQL).
 Include links to other URIs. so that they can
      discover more things.

Data conversion
 Choosing datasets
 Choosing description
 Extraction
 Linking
 Distribution
Choosing description
 Domain ontologies
 Established, popular (Dublin Core, SKOS)

Linking

Library data already contain links
Links to resources identified
by code values
Links to classification notations
Links to persons
Links to geographical entities
and institutions
„Outsourcing“ authorities
 DBPedia
 VIAF
 Geonames

                                                                Crawling data
Distribution
 Lightweight API
 Single interface to the datasets
http://www.flickr.com/photos/virtualsugar/316200555
  Open bibliographic data
Open licences

 Incomplete
 Parallel coexistence with the original way of
    data distribution
Benefits of linked library data
 Readable
 Sharable
 Linkable
 Distributable
 Integrable
 ?-able
