Links are valuable. Links between documents, between people, between ideas, between data. Data is now a first class Web citizen, and the Web is expanding as more of these valuable networks are deployed within its fabric. Well-established knowledge organization systems like the Library of Congress Subject Headings will play a major role within these networks, as hubs, connecting people with information and providing a firm foundation for network growth as many new routes to the discovery of information emerge through the collective action of individuals. Or will they?
This talk introduces the Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS), a soon-to-be-completed W3C standard for publishing thesauri, classification schemes and subject headings as linked data in the Web. This talk also presents SKOS in the context of the W3C’s Semantic Web Activity, and in particular the work of the W3C’s Semantic Web Deployment Working Group where other specifications are being developed for publishing linked data in the Web, for embedding linked data in Web pages, and for managing Semantic Web vocabularies. Finally, this talk takes a mildly inquisitive look at the value propositions for linked data in the Web, and how LCSH might be deployed in the Web for better information discovery.

OpenEI.org is an open source wiki media platform that leverages crowd sourcing to build an ecosystem for the transmission, storage, analysis and distribution of energy data and information. The system provides mapping and other visualization tools to transform that raw data into understanding.
By building an open, crowd sourced catalog of highly interactive resources and an engaged community of solution providers, OpenEI and Data.gov bring powerful distribution engines for use by anyone. Capable of connecting to virtually any data or Content source and conveying that access to other destinations, they transform understanding and access to knowledge and resources which otherwise would be inaccessible or at best diffused across the –Verse in such a way as to be nearly impossible to find.
This interactive conversation will focus on why we need to build open source, transparent and highly distributable solution sets; What value we can derive from the use of distribution accelerators like OpenEI and Data.Gov and; What the continued development of single destination sites based on the outdated theory of “If I build it they will come” means for those individuals, groups or Agencies attempting to assess the risks associated with energy related projects.

Title: FAIRy stories: tales from building the FAIR Research Commons
Findable Accessable Interoperable Reusable. The “FAIR Principles” for research data, software, computational workflows, scripts, or any kind of Research Object is a mantra; a method; a meme; a myth; a mystery. For the past 15 years I have been working on FAIR in a range of projects and initiatives in the Life Sciences as we try to build the FAIR Research Commons. Some are top-down like the European Research Infrastructures ELIXIR, ISBE and IBISBA, and the NIH Data Commons. Some are bottom-up, supporting FAIR for investigator-led projects (FAIRDOM), biodiversity analytics (BioVel), and FAIR drug discovery (Open PHACTS, FAIRplus). Some have become movements, like Bioschemas, the Common Workflow Language and Research Objects. Others focus on cross-cutting approaches in reproducibility, computational workflows, metadata representation and scholarly sharing & publication. In this talk I will relate a series of FAIRy tales. Some of them are Grimm. There are villains and heroes. Some have happy endings; all have morals.

Web Content Mining Based on Dom Intersection and Visual Features Conceptijceronline
Structured Data extraction from deep Web pages is a challenging task due to the underlying complex structures of such pages. Also website developer generally follows different web page design technique. Data extraction from webpage is highly useful to build our own database from number applications. A large number of techniques have been proposed to address this problem, but all of them have inherent limitations because they present different limitations and constraints for extracting data from such webpages. This paper presents two different approaches to get structured data extraction. The first approach is non-generic solution which is based on template detection using intersection of Document Object Model Tree of various webpages from the same website. This approach is giving better result in terms of efficiency and accurately locating the main data at the particular webpage. The second approach is based on partial tree alignment mechanism based on using important visual features such as length, size, and position of web table available on the webpages. This approach is a generic solution as it does not depend on one particular website and its webpage template. It is perfectly locating the multiple data regions, data records and data items within a given web page. We have compared our work's result with existing mechanism and found our result much better for number webpage

In this talk we present a SharePoint extension that supports the automatic linking of unstructured content like Word documents with structured information from other databases, such as statistical data. As a result, decision makers have knowledge portals based on linked data at their fingertips.
While the importance of managed metadata and Term Store is clear to most SharePoint architects, the significance of a semantic layer outside of the content silos has not yet been explored systematically.
We will present a four-layered content architecture and will take a close look on some of the aspects of the semantic layer and its integration with SharePoint:
- Keeping Term Store and the semantic layer in sync
- Automatic tagging of SharePoint content
- Use of graph databases to store tags
- Entity-centric search & analytics applications
Metadata is most often stored per data source, and therefore it is meaningless outside of the silo. In this presentation, we will give a live demo of a SharePoint extension that makes use of an explicit semantic layer based on standards. This approach builds the basis to start linking data across the silos in a most agile way.
The resulting knowledge graph can start on a small scale, to develop continuously and to grow with the requirements. In this presentation we will give an example to illustrate how initially disconnected HR-related data (CVs in SharePoint; statistical data from labour market; skills and competencies taxonomies; salary spreadsheets) gets linked automatically, and is then made available through an extensive search & analytics application.
