Life Of Pi Religion Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Life of Pi Religion" can be both challenging and rewarding.
The novel "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel is a complex narrative that explores themes of faith,
survival, and the human spirit. To effectively delve into the religious aspects of the story, one
must navigate through a rich tapestry of symbolism, allegory, and philosophical inquiries.
Addressing the religious elements in "Life of Pi" requires a comprehensive understanding of
various faith traditions, as the protagonist, Pi Patel, practices Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam
simultaneously. Analyzing the coexistence and interplay of these religions within the context of
the narrative demands a nuanced approach and a deep appreciation for religious diversity.
Moreover, exploring the existential and metaphysical dimensions of the novel adds another layer
of difficulty. The essay must grapple with profound questions about the nature of belief, the role
of faith in the face of adversity, and the ambiguity between reality and illusion. Engaging with
these philosophical aspects requires critical thinking and the ability to articulate complex ideas
clearly.
Balancing textual analysis with personal interpretation is another challenge. A successful essay
on this topic should not only dissect the religious themes in the novel but also offer insightful
reflections and interpretations. It's important to strike a balance between providing evidence
from the text and presenting one's unique perspective on the thematic elements.
In conclusion, composing a compelling essay on the "Life of Pi Religion" necessitates a blend of
literary analysis, religious understanding, philosophical exploration, and personal reflection.
Tackling the intricacies of the narrative while maintaining coherence and depth is no easy feat.
However, the process of wrestling with these complexities can result in a profound and thought-
provoking piece of writing.

The five generic competitive strategies have become some of the most used
competitive strategies in contemporary corporate management. Michael E. Porter

A runner must use a strategy that is specific to that style of racing. If a distance
runner attempts to apply pacing to a short sprint he has lost the race before
approaching the start. Although racing strategies differ between every individual
race it is possible to associate some basic strategies used in particular types of races.
These techniques are common amongst the runners of a particular event but vary
compared to runners of different types of races.

Oedipus rules similar to how a hurdler runs. He begins to seek solutions to the
plague before the city appeals for his help. I have acted at once... to learn what I
might do or say to save our city, shows Oedipus seriousness and quickness to search
for an end to the plague. He wastes no time beginning the race immediately searching
for a solution to the problem.
The way in which Oedipus attempted to solve the problem plaguing Thebes most
resembles a runner overcoming hurdles. Each hurdle is cleared using the same
method applied to every other hurdle. Oedipus only uses one technique to find his
needed solution and this is to demand information of individuals. It began with his
insistence that Creon, Speak out, speak out to all of us (163). Later Oedipus
threatened the chorus to give up any information they might be hiding offering to,
Come speak up. I will give him a handsome reward... but if you keep silent I order
you,... to banish this man (171 172). Oedipus only method of solving the problem is
to demand this truth. This shows a consistency that is similar to how a hurdler must
constantly jump over each hurdle using the same technique.
As a race progresses a hurdler will continue to increase in speed until reaching
maximum velocity and maintain this speed through the end of the
The Two Theorists Hume And Kent

The Meaning of Arts

Beauty
The two theorists Hume and Kent are basically talking about beauty and what is
commonly done in order to enhance beauty. The argument therefore involves two
theories, which are talking about the same thing, which is beauty even though they
have different thoughts about beauty. They therefore provide a broad and wide
definition and also reasons as to why different things are taking place in order to
enhance beauty. The two theories are therefore opposing each other to some extent
and they also agree with each other to some extent while trying to pass the
information about beauty (Freeland, 2001, p.10).
This article is therefore going to look at each of the two theories in order to ... Show

Then it will look at the strengths and weaknesses of each and every theory and it
will finally address areas, which are also missing in both of the theories (Freeland,
2001, p.10).
.
According to Hume s point of view, any person who has a for the most part highly
developed artistic taste assessment of art less valued when it does exult in practices,
which are capable of violating the moral standards which are commonly shared.
Therefore Hume argues that beauty is not the actual quality of things by themselves
but it is an assumption. Beauty therefore exists in a person s mind that always tends
to think about it. Therefore different people with different minds tend to identify a
different type of beauty compared to another person s mind. He also argues that one
person might not be able to see beauty where another person is seeing beauty.
Therefore each and every person has his own opinions about beauty and ideas, thus
no one can be able to think of beauty according to the way another one thinks of
beauty. Therefore Hume argues that beauty can only be thoughtby a person and
therefore different people will always have different thoughts about beauty. Hume
therefore points out that beauty is not real but it is what a person thinks it actually is
according to his or her own way of thinking. Consequently beauty cannot be the same

teenage gang leader, Alex, as he storms through the streets of a near future society
with his Droogs, or friends. Alex chooses to live a criminal life, until he is arrested
by the government and chosen for an experiment that aims to eliminate his violent
and aggressive tendencies with a controversial process known as Ludovico s

Because the fears of repressive governments exists throughout every society, some
more than others, the themes in the novel become not so distant. Reformation of
violence is suppression of of free will in that it aims to limit the choices we make to
fall within what is accepted. In this extreme form of social control, Alex is reformed
to act as a civilized human. Violence, as a form of rebellion, represents the ongoing
struggle that youth, as a whole, deals with in order to fight against the super powers,
that aim to control them.

American Dream Research Paper
For centuries, the American Dream has represented the idea of the land of
opportunity. It has attracted immigrants from all over the world since the creation
of the United States. People from middle and lower social classes love the idea of
equal opportunity, as they have most likely been at a disadvantage from birth. It is a
motivating factor for the ambitious, hard working people, and the lazy, optimistic
people. Nonetheless, a capitalist nation inherently has a lower class, and most people
fail to fulfill this American Dream. Modern day does not allow for the simple fantasy
of making it big in the stock market, or amassing a great wealth on a farm in the
midwest anymore. The current state of undergraduate education, lack of economic
mobility,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lack of economic mobility is another leading obstacle in the pursuit of the
American Dream. Without scholarships or federal grants, public college costs
about $100,000 to attend for four years. A person living in poverty will struggle
much more than someone born into the upper class to scrape together $100,000,
which makes it nearly impossible to receive a higher education without
overwhelming yourself with massive student loans that you will never be able to
repay. The accumulation of debt by interest will be too much for a person in
poverty to handle, nonetheless the original loan. The upper and lower classes
continue to divide as middle class Americans slip into the lower class, while wealth
and assets continue to shift up the classes. A study by the Economic Mobility
Project of the Pew Charitable Trusts found that nearly one third of middle class
American teenagers could not hold their social class after entering adulthood. This
was most likely a result of the need for expensive education and the bridge it creates
between those who can afford it, and those who

NAUTICA is a captivating sea adventure. There s a worthy and challenging goal and
the stakes are high. The story is driven by solid themes about bonding, reconnecting,
and healing.
The emotional theme cleverly works on three levels. The main storyline regarding the
relics is about finding the missing part, and reconnecting them. On the journey, the
protagonist, Hal, bonds and connects with his employee, Gene.
In the protagonist s personal life he learns to reconnect with his estranged girlfriend
and daughter, and he learns to heal from his past, involving his father. It s nice to see
how the emotional premise all comes together.

When they find the relic, then it would be a surprise when Basil pulls out a gun and
allows the Ula and Ned on the boat (or something like that). Also, having Holly on
the adventure would make the ending more convincing. Right now there s not a true
romance or a true relationship formed between Holly and Hal, so it s challenging to
see them together at the end.
As mentioned, Hal is a likable and quiet hero. He has strong inner conflict and he
equally has a strong character arc when he decides family comes first and that the
wants a normal, committed life. He realizes he has been chasing a ghost.
Unfortunately, Holly is underwritten. She s great in the scene telling Hal off, but
then fades. She shares nice chemistry with Hal, but one wants more. It s fun when
Hal is jealous of a photo, but it s her brother.
Gene is a delightful sidekick. But I don t want to do something extraordinary, Hal.
I m having a hard time as it is trying to achieve boring. He also has a nice character
arc. He goes from timid, insecure, afraid of swimming and anything that takes him
away from land, but by the end, he s the one championing the adventure. He learns
from Hal, as Hal learned from Gene. What isn t convincing is that Gene doesn t
know what a mariner s astrolabe is, given his expert knowledge in
Funeral Home Misconceptions
Death is an evitable part of everyone s life and therefore in the modern world the
use of a funeral home is typical after the end of someone s life. Nevertheless, rarely
do individuals seek or have the opportunity to see and understand how a funeral
home operates from day to day. This avoidance, however leads to a lack of
knowledge surrounding funeral homes which aids in the perpetuation of fear.
Furthermore, it adds to the misconceptions by the public about aspects of a funeral
home such as, the crematorium room and the demeanor of staff. I was amazed by
the different variations of urns available at the Wilkerson Funeral Home
Crematory. Ashes could be stored in traditional urns, clocks, watches, and even
jewelry. Scattering urns are meant to easily allow ashes to flow from the container
whereas other boxes are biodegradable and meant to be placed in the ocean.
Nevertheless, traveling urns were the most interesting to me as they resembled the
traditional urn style, but just in a smaller size. Travel sized urns would allow for a
great number of people to be able to have the ashes of one particular loved one in a
family.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media frequently depicts funeral directors and fellow staff to be almost gothic
like individuals with a morbid sense of humor. They appear on television to be a
misunderstood part of our population that is not accepted by society. However, upon
meeting Douglas Coward, our tour guide, I found the staff at Wilkerson s to be
empathetic, relatively normal and friendly in comparison to their portrayal through
the media. This clarified that funeral home employees are like everyday people with
family and friends. Through the tour I watched my preconceived notions change and
by the end of the tour started viewing the funeral home profession as a compassionate

How does Levi Roots use language to sell his product to the dragons?
Levi Roots uses spoken language devices to persuade the dragons to invest in his

overlapping, turn taking and accent in order to persuade the dragons. The dragons
respond in a warm way, and join in the humour Levi creates throughout the interview;
this suggests that Levi root was successful in persuading the dragons. His use of
language also sets mood and tone in different situations throughout the interview.

that he cares in what he has to say, and wants to be seen as a confident, businessman

Wind Power And The Wind Turbine System
Abstract
Wind force is still the most encouraging renewable energy in the year of 2013. The
wind turbine system (WTS) began with a few tens of kilowatt power in the 1980s.
Now, multi megawatt wind turbines are widely installed even up to 6 8 MW. There
is a widespread use of wind turbines in the distribution networks and more and more
wind power stations, acting as power plants, are connected directly to the
transmission networks. As the grid penetration and power level of the wind
turbines increase steadily, the wind power starts to have significant impacts to the
power grid system. Therefore, more advanced generators, power electronic
systems, and control solutions have to be introduced to improve the characteristics
of the wind power plant and make it more suitable to be integrated into the power
grid. Meanwhile, there are also some emerging technology challenges, which need
to be further clarified and investigated. The global electrical energy consumption is
still rising and there is a steady demand to increase the power capacity. The
production, distribution and the use of the energy should be as technological
efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end user should be set up.
The deregulation of energy has lowered the investment in larger power plants, which
means the need for new electrical power sources may be very high in the near future.
Two major technologies will play important roles to solve the future problems.
One is to change the electrical

The Persuaders Rhetorical Analysis
When I was a kid in school, I was told that there were the basic things that you
needed like clothes and food and there were the things that you maybe want but
don t really need. Advertisements do not have any effects on what we need. We
don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we have hunger
for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic
cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or
do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away
from our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci

After watching the film it is evident that the interaction between advertisements and
consumers is similar to the interactions between media and audiences. This is because
advertisement is inherently a form of media, but instead of trying to interaction the
audience, it propagates a propaganda for a specific item. You can look at the theories
about mass media consumption and apply it to advertisements. For example, in the
dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet
theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when an
audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content
would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would
automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just
information that stated that something was better than another product in the hope
that, like an injection, the information would cause the audience to go out and buy

Introduction Healthcare is a profession that is demanding, but being an administrator
is a field that can reshape the future state of healthcare. As a healthcare administrator
there are so many different aspects of healthcare that an individual can be involved
in. Administration is the business of healthcare all while trying to run an organization
and the providers within. The best way to understand the role of an administrator is
through an interview. The interview that was conducted was with a registered nurse
that was promoted to the director of the Emergency Department at Virginia Beach

takes to run a department or even a facility.
Background of Administrator Kim Schmidt has worked in healthcare for over 15

Sn1 Reaction Lab Report
SN1 reactions only occur with certain reagents under very specific conditions. These
reactions have an intermediate and occur in two distinct steps. The first step is the
formation of the carbocation once the leaving group departs from the molecule. The
type of leaving group is vital in determining if an SN1 reactionwill occur. In general,
the efficiency of the leaving group increases as the size of the halide ion increases.
However, p Toluensulfonate is the most effective and reactive leaving group. As this
step forms a carbocation, it is important to note that the type of carbocation that will
form. SN1 reactions will not occur if the intermediate is not stable. Therefore, the
degree of substitution of the leaving group, and consequently the carbocation, is vital.

Correspondingly, primary alkyl halides are the least likely to react. Additionally, the
solvent has the ability to stabilize the carbocation. A polar protic solvent is favored as
it will form hydrogen bonds to further stabilize the carbocation intermediate. Overall,
SN1 reactions are widely dependent on the formation of a stable carbocation
intermediate. Since SN1 reactions are dependent on the formation of the carbocation,
and that step occurs separately from the nucleophilic addition, the rate of the reaction
is not typically affected by the nature or concentration of the nucleophile. The
mechanism of an SN1 reaction is consistent. First, the leaving group leaves forming
the carbocation. The intermediate carbocation is planar and achiral. The nucleophile
is then free to attack from either side of the carbocation, which forms the substituted
product in either a racemic mixture or with some form of
The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
The Judgment of Athena in Oresteia
Athena resolves the conflicts of the Oresteia with an ambiguous judgment that seems
to satisfy all parties involved. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make
sacrifices to work toward a resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by
misleading Apollo to think that he has received total victory in judgment and by
offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an illusion of satisfaction
for all amidst a reality of compromise.
Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she
allows compromise by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally
justified. Initially, Athena announces, I approve the male in all things...... Show more

Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless
cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it
appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and
the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the
female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s
maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat
and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the
Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to
change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving
as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main
themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a
more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth
gods to become a part of the new Olympian order.
Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but
as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the
consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena
judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases
Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas
with the spear of allies,

Bill 60
Bill 60 A Defilement of Fundamental Canadian Rights and Freedoms
In September of 2013, the Parti QuГ©bГ©cois severely violated multiple rights on
the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms with the introduction of the amended
Quebec Charter of Values.
The purpose of the bill was to Establish a duty of neutrality and reserve for all state
personnel, particularly through limiting the religious symbols that may be worn by
public workers. Essentially all noticeable and exposed religious symbols or articles
of clothing were banned for those targeted by the changed Charter. Additionally, it
was made mandatory to have an uncovered face during the provision or receiving of
any state services. The argument made by the Minister responsible for the ... Show

This image, along with the above interpretation of the violations of the bill are
clear indicators that there were definite violations of the Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms through the editing of the Quebec Charter of Values. (CBC
News, 2013) Despite the violations as a result of the bill, Mr. Drainville claimed
that the majority of 68 percent of Quebecers were in favour of passing the bill.
When the bill was denied, the issue was solved , despite it being the minority not in
favour. This is proof that the solution of not passing the bill was not enough of a
solution, as many people wanted neutralism in the public work force. (CBC News,
2013) One potential solution to adhere to the needs and wants of Quebecers is to
strike a compromise between neutralism and the Rights of Canadians. The following

Comparing the Mormon Religion to Catholic and Protestant Faiths
The Mormon religion is very unique in many of its doctrine. While technically a
Protestant faith, the Mormons generally share more doctrine with the Catholics.
Because of its unique nature, I will be analyzing the Mormon faith, its history,
organization, and doctrine, in comparison with the beliefs held by both Catholics and
Protestants.
Establishment
On April 6, 1980, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (aka the Mormon
Church) was founded. [It is interesting to note that according to Mormon doctrine
(Doctrine and Covenants 20:1), April 6 is the birthday of Jesus Christ.] 10 years
prior to this event, in 1820, fourteen year old Joseph Smith ... Show more content on

Both Martin Luther and John Wesley shared the belief that Catholic faith had strayed
from the truth as is seen in their respective quotes: I have sought nothing beyond
reforming the Church in conformity with the Holy Scriptures. . . . . . . I simply say
that Christianity has ceased to exist among those who should have preserved it.
(Luther and His Times, E.G. Schweibert) and It does not appear that these
extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were common in the Church for more than two
or three centuries. We seldom hear of them after that fatal period when the
Emperor Constantine called himself a Christian; . . . From this time they almost
totally ceased; . . . The Christians had no more of the Spirit of Christ than the other
Heathens . . . . This was the real cause why the extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost
were no longer to be found in the Christian Church; because the Christians were
turned Heathens again, and had only a dead form left. (The Works of John Wesley,
vol. 7)
While the Mormons agree with other Protestants that the Catholic Church had
become corrupt with its indulgences , purchase of church offices, etc., the Mormons
differed somewhat in their solution to this problem. The Protestants sought to reform
the problems they saw evident in the Catholic faith. The Mormons, however,
believing that all faiths upon the Earth had fallen away from the true church
established by Christ, sought to restore

JPMorgan Chase had many incidents where it has violated the rules and regulation
and ended up paying big chunk of money for the violations. But one of the biggest
penalties the bank had to pay was $13 billion. The bank represents several alliances
of most Chicago and New York money center banks. In 2008, JPMorgan Chase
bought two failing institutions after the government asked it to help out when the
institutions got into deep financial difficulties. First one was brokerage house Bear
Stearns that was one of the firms that was heavily involved in the businesses of

prevent Bear Stearns from collapsing, JPMorgan stepped in to buy the company with

The Pros And Cons Of Asymmetrical Warfare
Asymmetrical warfare is an appealing choice to those who may not have a military
force to use. This type of warfare is a murderous tactic and has become more
popular war tactic since the end of the cold world war. To resort to terror is not
always chosen because the enemy is more powerful. It can happen between two
great powers as the conflict becomes a total war and societies escalate against each
other cutting away civilized restraints. For example, in 1950s Strategic Air
Command targeteers would find ways to cause bonus damage by aiming blasts so
adjacent towns would be destroyed as well (Howard Hoffman, 2012). The goal here
was not to kill civilians per se, but to wreak havoc on the enemy s economy. This
type of strategic attackcan be hard to understand, but even states with legitimate
purposes have sometimes resorted to this strategy in order to revert to a single
standard which puts deliberate attacks against civilians beyond pale.
Primacy and asymmetrical warfare is also seen when the power is grossly
imbalanced. In these cases, using terror to coerce may seem like the only effective
way to force the weaker side. This leaves them with the choice to surrender or be
savage back. Radical Muslim zealots are a good example. They cannot compete with
American power or with conventional military means, so they substitute attacks on
high profile political targets to make the biggest impact (Howard Hoffman, 2012).

1700 meters deep and has 20% of the worlds unfrozen freshwater. The lake is a big
resource for the planet and it has very unique plants and animals due to its isolation.
Also due to the isolation, it has a high rate of endemic species. Lake Baikal was also

In general terms, discuss the ways in which the change from a centrally planned
economy to a more market based economy has affected career options and
standards of living for the elderly, young professionals, unskilled laborers, members
of the military, women, and former government bureaucrats. The collapse of the
Soviet Union started the change to a market driven economy. Everyone had to learn
what capitalism was and had to do so very quickly, which was not an easy process.
Changing to a market driven economy was great for those who had an advantage,
such as the previous leaders in the Soviet Union. They were able to take over state run
businesses as their own and become wealthy. Others, like young professionals,
unskilled laborers etc....lost their jobs and unemployment skyrocketed. With the
unemployment so high, the standard of living for these workers worsened.
3.Discuss the declining birthrate in Russia and other countries in the region. What do
you think the impact of this decline can have on neighboring countries and regions?
Are similar declines happening elsewhere? The declining birthrate is seen all
throughout Russia and neighboring countries. A lot is due to many choosing to have
less children and also the high mortality rate of younger men. It seems that Europe
and the United States are also seeing a decline in the birthrate, but not as bad as
The Ancient Greek Of Greek Civilization
The ancient Greeks were unique and had a one of a kind culture which would
heavily influence the Western world. Their literature would bring forth works that
intertwined religious, philosophical, mythological, and political all in one. From the
Bronze Age to the Dark Age, the ancient Greeks would be innovators for practices
we have become accustomed to, such as philosophy, democracy, literature and even
theatricals. During this time, most that had been illuminated had been lost in the
Dark Ages, yet thanks to Homer, a Greek writer, some of Greeks lost age was
recorded and survived centuries to come. (Damrosch 186) Little is known about the

This would leave many Greeks illiterate. (Betts) However, pottery persisted
throughout different regions as well as variation burial sites. Identifying and
examining these different burial sites, shows how the Greeks would replace
Mycenean burial practices. Pottery, a lot like burial practices, would shift and
differ as well as time went forth. (Violatti) It wasn t until literature and the
formation of a new political institution that the Greek s Dark Ages would come to
an end. (Violatti) Since literature was lost, the Greeks relied on oral story telling.
(Damrosch 186) Yet, we can thank Homer for his literature contributions to shed
light on the Greeks lost age. Not much is known about Homer, yet his literary
works and the profound influence it had on Ancient Greek is widely known. Soon
after the Greeks adapted and added to the alphabet borrowed from the Phoenicians,
Homer s works would be set in writing. (PBS) Homer s poems were not written
down until much after he composed them, due to lack of literacy. (Lloyd) Homer s
work had a huge impact on Greek culture as well as their education, and influenced
cultures to come. (Lloyd) Homer s Iliad, as well as The Odyssey, would set social
standards as well as a common set of values. He brought forth the heroism and
nobility, and how disgrace and dishonor is the worst that can happen to a hero. He
set the tone that good deeds of a man in his life might become immortal. (PBS)

Why Not To Jump In College
Could you imagine jumping off of a building or a cliff and managing to fly with
only a parachute? Just the thought of that happening screams extreme. The risks
an athlete takes, the skills and preparation needed for just one jump and the
process itself is why BASE jumping is considered an extreme sport. There are
many motives as to why an athlete would put themselves in such a bizarre position
as to put their life on the line. Although many others and myself included find these
jumps incredibly risky, I can t judge them and say they are doing life wrong.
Instead of going life by the book, we should open our minds to some ideas that may
not be so out of this world as we portray them to be.

Five minutes later, Tom Start, Mike Sherrin and Ken Gosselin follow Lane and it

Why Is Levi Coffin Considered An Abolitionist
Levi Coffin was a well known abolitionist, and a very important individual to the
success of the Underground Railroad. Dictionary.com describes an abolitionist as a
person who tries to stop or get rid of any law or practice that is harmful to the
society ( Abolitionist ). Levi Coffin was that and much more. He and most of the
people involved in the Quaker religion believed that all men were equal and it was
his divine purpose to do everything in his power to help. Levi took it a bit further
than most. He was exposed to slavery at a young age and was taught by his family
not to support it; he took those teachings and applied them to various stages of his
life; including his young adulthood, marriage and retirement (Ludwig). Levi Coffin...

6. Which of the six environmental activism segments discussed in Chapter 3 (p. 90)

The Levis Eco will appeal mostly to the True Naturals because they express deeply

Since the jeans are made out of organic cotton, the True Naturals will be very
appealed by it since they are for saving the environment.
7. Given what you know about organic buyers from Chapter 3, do you think Levi s

Given what I know, Levis Eco brand will not interest the younger customers because
in the most part, the younger don t really pay attention to environmental issues and
so having organic cotton jeans will not impress them to the point that they will buy it
for that matter.
8. Do you think there is a core image of Levi s that can survive across the wide

Pythogoras of Samos Essay examples
Pythagoras of Samos is often described as the first pure mathematician. He is an
extremely important figure in the development of mathematics yet we know little
about his achievements. There is nothing that is truly accurate pertaining to
Pythagoras s writings. Today Pythagoras is certainly a mysterious figure.
Little is known of Pythagoras s childhood. Pythagoras s father was Mnesarchus, and
his mother was Pythais. Mnesarchus was a merchant who came from Tyre. Pythais
was a native of Samos. As a child Pythagoras spent his early years in Samos, but
traveled with his father. There are accounts, that during their travels, Mnesarchus

Pythagoras made a journey to Crete shortly after his return to Samos to study the
system of laws there. After a short stay in Crete, Pythagoras found himself back in
Samos. There he discovered a school called the semicircle. This was the site of his
own philosophical teaching, spending most of the night and daytime there and doing
research into the uses of mathematics. He tried to use his unique method of teaching,
which was similar to the lessons he had learned in Egypt, but Samians were not very
keen on this. Pythagoras saw that the Samians were not giving him the respect and
credit he deserved, so he moved on
Pythagoras left and founded a philosophical/religious school in Croton on the
southern tip of Italy. His school practiced secrecy and communalism making it hard
to tell the difference between the work of Pythagoras and work of his followers.
Although it did made outstanding contributions to mathematics. Pythagoras gained
many followers there, and became the head of a society with an inner circle of
followers known as mathematikoi. The mathematikoi lived permanently with the
Society, had no personal possessions and were vegetarians. They weren t acting as a
mathematics research group does in a modern university. There were no open
problems for them to solve, and they were not in any sense interested in trying to

Descriptive vs Normative Statements
Question 1 To explain the distinction between Descriptive and Normative Statements
one first has to understand the difference between Descriptive and Normative Ethics.
Descriptive ethics primarily describes people s moral beliefs, claims and behaviors.
This form of ethics is studied primarily by psychologist, sociologist and
anthropologist. With Normative ethicswe deal with the attempt to discover what
actions are in fact right or wrong, good or bad and what it takes to be a moral or
immoral person. This area of ethics is studied more by philosophers and theologist. To
simplify, Descriptive statements are statements about what is; while Normative
statements are statements about what ought to be.

institutions to govern behavior . We see that the words social institutions are used. A

Analysis Of O Pioneers By Willa Cather
O Pioneers by Willa Cather is a different novel from those of its time. It is a novel
that stands for women equality represented by the main character Alexandra. O
Pioneers reveals a story about Alexandra s struggle against nature and being a
strong woman in a male dominated profession and society. She succeeded in
establishing her female identity and achieved a sense of female self fulfillment by
transforming the wild land and struggling for her equal rights with men. This paper
focuses on the feminist thoughts and pioneering spirit of the great image of the
heroine Alexandra, who was independent, brave, and optimistic. Getting strength and
courage from her such spirit, Alexandra would never be defeated by either men or
nature. One January day, thirty years ago, the little town of Hanover, anchored on a
windy Nebraska tableland, was trying not to be blown away (Cather, 1987, p. 1.).
The novelbegins in the small town of Hanover where all the farmers and some of
their children go to relax after the long working season. Of those community
members, resides young Alexandra Bergeson who was with her younger brother
Emil. She was a tall strong girl who was driven. She wore a man s long ulster (not
as if it were an affliction, but as if it were very comfortable and belonged to her;
carried it like a young soldier), and a round plush cap, tied down with a thick veil
(Cather, 1987, p.2.). Although the description of Alexandra s appearance was

I know we have had some fine preachers in our community, men who have lived

One example is Matthew 7:21 23. Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord , will

ABSTRACT
Designing and embedding a watermark for VoIP is the main goal of this paper, A
new model is introduced and characterized by high robustness, high security and must
be non perceptual. The watermarking model is suitable for real time service and
supports the needs of embedding the watermark into the traffic of VoIP and its
extraction additionally this model offers authentication and integrity. The model
based on digital watermarking and steganography. Another factor was taken in
consideration; the amount of data used and its influence on the voice quality of
service. the model is implemented using C# code for both embedding and extracting
the watermarking spite of the intended cheating mechanisms that might complicate
the send/receive conditions. In addition, the model performance has confirmed its
robustness and quality of service.

Our topic of this presentation is introducing a non profit organization and we choose
to run an organization which is helping the underprivileged children. Our
organization is called Shield for Children. We worked as a team and finished this
presentation together. We had a lot of troubles at the beginning. For example, we
have different opinions on the meeting timesince we both had our own busy schedule.
As a result, we couldn t grouptogether and discussed about the presentation.
However, we opened a What s app Group and we could communicate with each other
easier inside that application. So we could able to finish the presentation at the end.
Other than that, some people in our group are not willing to work at first since they
had another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people are the informative giver, they provide extra information during the
group discussions. They helped our group discussion become more informative.
Some people are the Administrator, always lists out a content which makes sure
our discussion is on track. Sometimes we might play more than one role at the
same time. For example, Maggie is an administrator and information giver. She
kept our discussion on track and provided different information which help us to
prepare the presentation. John is an elaborator and sensor, he elaborated our point
and present it on the PowerPoint. When we worked so hard and our productivity
were too low, he will ask for a break. So that we can take a rest and have a great
performance after that. Enson is an initiator, he always gives some new ideas that
helped us to solve different kinds of problems such as he suggests us to provide
learning chances and materials instead of playing to the underprivileged children.
Alex is a gatekeeper, he makes sure everyone in the group have the chance to speak
and present their idea about the underprivileged children. For me, I think I am an
initiator. It is because I suggest some ways to advertise our organization like the
Facebook page and the website. However, I am an avoider at the same time since
sometimes I didn t take the presentation very
The Current Study Has Tested The Episodic Memory Essay
The current study has tested the episodic memory; how everyday brand experience
left a mark in the memory and tried to discover that when these brands have been
tested, could people able to separate previously shown brands and new brands from
each other. Therefore, it examined whether familiarity or recollection would be more
superior. Moreover, the source memorywas tested using these brand logos. As a
conclusion, this study was needed to use recollection to remember details in the
source memory to press the correct button during the experiment. The behavioural
results provided that the type of modality influenced the response time and visual
brands helped to participants to decide quicker than acoustic which supported the
hypothesis. However, expected to be responded faster to old brands, it was
otherwise. On the other hand, accuracy was influenced by neither modality nor old
/new effect. Old/new brands have been analyzed in two separate time frames
(FN400/ LPC) to understand the neural correlates of familiarity or recollection. In
general, both at FN400 and LPC s electrodes were in the same direction as a whole,
but they did not have the same effect at the same time compared to amplitudeand
latency.
FN400 (300 500ms)
FN400 component is associated with familiarity (Rugg Wilding, 2000 Paller, et al.,
2007; Curran, 2000) and in this current experiment, the FN400 were significant,
according to timing, amplitude and topographical distribution for old/new effect.
Essay Slavery in the Bible
Slavery in the Bible
The first mention of slavery in the Bible is found in Noah s declaration, Cursed be
Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers (Gen. 9:25). He said this after
waking up from a naked, drunken stupor and learning that his son Ham had mocked
him. Although Ham was the guilty party, Noah s statement was directed at Ham s
youngest son Canaan. If he was involved with his father in this act of disrespect, the
statement can be taken as the pronouncement of a curse, Cursed be Canaan. It is
possible, however, that Canaan did not join his father in making fun of Noah. If so,
the statement would be in the form of a prophecy: Cursed will be Canaan. Exodus
20:5 and Ezekiel 18:4 clearly declare that God punishes ... Show more content on

About 500 years after the death of Abraham, his descendants through Isaac were
living in Egypt as slaves. Genesis 37 to 50 tells the story of how this came about.
The 10 oldest sons of Abraham s grandson Jacob disliked their younger brother
Joseph so much that they found a way to sell him to traders who in turn sold him
to an Egyptian officer as a slave. In his new land, Joseph went through a series of
ups and downs and eventually became the prime minister of Egypt, the highest
official under the king. God enabled Joseph to foresee an approaching time of
famine, and used him to store up food and then distribute it during the famine. His
political position made it possible for him to settle his father s family in Egypt s
most fertile territory. Here they prospered for many years. However, the time came
when the leaders of Egypt began to view the rapidly growing Israelite community as
a threat. As a result, they made slaves of the Israelites, treating them with ever
increasing harshness. Finally, desperate because the descendants of Jacob
continued to multiply, they issued an order that all their male babies be destroyed
at birth. The first 12 chapters of Exodus tell the story of how the Lord responded to
the cries of His people. He miraculously provided Moses to be their leader, sent 10
plagues on the Egyptians, helped the Israelites celebrate their first Passover, and led
them out of the land of bondage. It appears that as they left for Canaan, they had no
Environmental Impact Assessment (Eia)
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): * A formal process to predict the
environmental consequence of human development activities and to plan an
appropriate measure to eliminate or reduce the adverse impacts and to augment
positive impacts. * EIA is an attempt to identify measure and evaluate the
environmental impacts of a course of actions. Here, actions mean any development,
strategy which will change an existing system. * According to LGED, assessment of
beneficial and adverse change in the environmental resources or values, resulting
from any proposed project. Methods available for conducting EIA study are: *

The matrix comprises the environmental components found in a given study area,
listed along both axes of the matrix: the cells then represent possible linkages between
the components. This is illustrated in Figure . The analyst codes those cells where a
direct link exists a 1 , the other cells have a 0 . On multiplying the matrix by itself, the
resultant matrix indicates those components that can be reached within one (direct
link) or two (indirect link) steps from another component. Further matrix
multiplication can identify 3 , 4 , 5 step links between the environmental components.

Technology Advances All The Time Essay
Technology advances all the time, but often we question the necessity of the new
inventions. In the 1980s, in vitro fertilisation was still a very new body of science.
The information was limited to the people who actually could and would
participate in the studies, as simulating human pregnancy in animals is difficult.
The actual procedure, however, includes a donated egg, sperm, and simulating
mitosis in a test tube then injecting it into a woman s womb. Ruth Hubbard is the
first female professor of the sciences at Harvard University to get tenure. As A
woman, a feminist, and a biologist , she negatively viewed the new science behind
the in vitro procedure in the 1980s. She proclaims two years after the publication
of in vitro, that the development of the science is wrong. Ruth Hubbard effectively
uses her concerns for women s safety in her Test Tube Babies: Solution or Problem?
, to persuade her general audience that the performance of in vitro fertilization is not
the correct way to address the inability to give birth due to the underdeveloped
nature of the science. She then successfully questions the need for in vitro science,
by offering alternative methods to become a parent as well as criticizing societal
expectations of women. Ruth Hubbard convinces the audience of her perspectives of
the in vitro policy with her stern disquiet. Yet, she begins with a potential counter
argument, that the procedure had been done before. By providing an example of
three cases
Rainbow And Brook Trout Research Paper
Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout. Those are the 3 species of trout in the southern
Appalachians. Brook trout are native to the Georgia Appalachians, while rainbow
and brown trout are not. Rainbow trout came from California and were introduced
to the Georgian Appalachian around 1875. They have populated Georgia well and
have sustained a great habitat. Brown trout actually came from overseas, Europe.
They came to the Americas and have found a home in Georgia. The brook trout
usually has a light colored underbelly with a brown speckled body. The rainbow
trout lives up to its name, it has a colorful body and white body. The brown trout are
you guessed it brown, with a yellow underbelly.
The artificial fly is what you think, a fishing lure that

  • 1. Life Of Pi Religion Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Life of Pi Religion" can be both challenging and rewarding. The novel "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel is a complex narrative that explores themes of faith, survival, and the human spirit. To effectively delve into the religious aspects of the story, one must navigate through a rich tapestry of symbolism, allegory, and philosophical inquiries. Addressing the religious elements in "Life of Pi" requires a comprehensive understanding of various faith traditions, as the protagonist, Pi Patel, practices Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam simultaneously. Analyzing the coexistence and interplay of these religions within the context of the narrative demands a nuanced approach and a deep appreciation for religious diversity. Moreover, exploring the existential and metaphysical dimensions of the novel adds another layer of difficulty. The essay must grapple with profound questions about the nature of belief, the role of faith in the face of adversity, and the ambiguity between reality and illusion. Engaging with these philosophical aspects requires critical thinking and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly. Balancing textual analysis with personal interpretation is another challenge. A successful essay on this topic should not only dissect the religious themes in the novel but also offer insightful reflections and interpretations. It's important to strike a balance between providing evidence from the text and presenting one's unique perspective on the thematic elements. In conclusion, composing a compelling essay on the "Life of Pi Religion" necessitates a blend of literary analysis, religious understanding, philosophical exploration, and personal reflection. Comparing the Strategy of a Runner with that of King Oedipus of Oedipus Rex and Creon of Antigone A runner must use a strategy that is specific to that style of racing. If a distance runner attempts to apply pacing to a short sprint he has lost the race before approaching the start. Although racing strategies differ between every individual race it is possible to associate some basic strategies used in particular types of races. These techniques are common amongst the runners of a particular event but vary compared to runners of different types of races. Oedipus rules similar to how a hurdler runs. He begins to seek solutions to the plague before the city appeals for his help. I have acted at once... to learn what I might do or say to save our city, shows Oedipus seriousness and quickness to search for an end to the plague. He wastes no time beginning the race immediately searching for a solution to the problem. The way in which Oedipus attempted to solve the problem plaguing Thebes most resembles a runner overcoming hurdles. Each hurdle is cleared using the same method applied to every other hurdle. Oedipus only uses one technique to find his needed solution and this is to demand information of individuals. It began with his insistence that Creon, Speak out, speak out to all of us (163). Later Oedipus threatened the chorus to give up any information they might be hiding offering to, Come speak up. I will give him a handsome reward... but if you keep silent I order you,... to banish this man (171 172). Oedipus only method of solving the problem is to demand this truth. This shows a consistency that is similar to how a hurdler must constantly jump over each hurdle using the same technique. As a race progresses a hurdler will continue to increase in speed until reaching maximum velocity and maintain this speed through the end of the

The argument therefore involves two theories, which are talking about the same thing, which is beauty even though they have different thoughts about beauty. They therefore provide a broad and wide definition and also reasons as to why different things are taking place in order to enhance beauty. The two theories are therefore opposing each other to some extent and they also agree with each other to some extent while trying to pass the information about beauty (Freeland, 2001, p.10). Then it will look at the strengths and weaknesses of each and every theory and it will finally address areas, which are also missing in both of the theories (Freeland, 2001, p.10). . According to Hume s point of view, any person who has a for the most part highly developed artistic taste assessment of art less valued when it does exult in practices, which are capable of violating the moral standards which are commonly shared. Therefore Hume argues that beauty is not the actual quality of things by themselves but it is an assumption. Beauty therefore exists in a person s mind that always tends to think about it. Therefore different people with different minds tend to identify a different type of beauty compared to another person s mind. He also argues that one person might not be able to see beauty where another person is seeing beauty. Therefore each and every person has his own opinions about beauty and ideas, thus no one can be able to think of beauty according to the way another one thinks of beauty. Therefore Hume argues that beauty can only be thoughtby a person and therefore different people will always have different thoughts about beauty. Hume therefore points out that beauty is not real but it is what a person thinks it actually is according to his or her own way of thinking. Consequently beauty cannot be the same in different

It has attracted immigrants from all over the world since the creation of the United States. People from middle and lower social classes love the idea of equal opportunity, as they have most likely been at a disadvantage from birth. It is a motivating factor for the ambitious, hard working people, and the lazy, optimistic people. Nonetheless, a capitalist nation inherently has a lower class, and most people fail to fulfill this American Dream. Modern day does not allow for the simple fantasy of making it big in the stock market, or amassing a great wealth on a farm in the midwest anymore. The current state of undergraduate education, lack of economic mobility,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lack of economic mobility is another leading obstacle in the pursuit of the American Dream. Without scholarships or federal grants, public college costs about $100,000 to attend for four years. A person living in poverty will struggle much more than someone born into the upper class to scrape together $100,000, which makes it nearly impossible to receive a higher education without overwhelming yourself with massive student loans that you will never be able to repay. The accumulation of debt by interest will be too much for a person in poverty to handle, nonetheless the original loan. The upper and lower classes continue to divide as middle class Americans slip into the lower class, while wealth and assets continue to shift up the classes. A study by the Economic Mobility Project of the Pew Charitable Trusts found that nearly one third of middle class American teenagers could not hold their social class after entering adulthood. This was most likely a result of the need for expensive education and the bridge it creates between those who can afford it, and those who

Nevertheless, rarely do individuals seek or have the opportunity to see and understand how a funeral home operates from day to day. This avoidance, however leads to a lack of knowledge surrounding funeral homes which aids in the perpetuation of fear. Furthermore, it adds to the misconceptions by the public about aspects of a funeral home such as, the crematorium room and the demeanor of staff. I was amazed by the different variations of urns available at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Crematory. Ashes could be stored in traditional urns, clocks, watches, and even jewelry. Scattering urns are meant to easily allow ashes to flow from the container whereas other boxes are biodegradable and meant to be placed in the ocean. • 13. Wind Power And The Wind Turbine System Abstract Wind force is still the most encouraging renewable energy in the year of 2013. The wind turbine system (WTS) began with a few tens of kilowatt power in the 1980s. Now, multi megawatt wind turbines are widely installed even up to 6 8 MW. There is a widespread use of wind turbines in the distribution networks and more and more wind power stations, acting as power plants, are connected directly to the transmission networks. As the grid penetration and power level of the wind turbines increase steadily, the wind power starts to have significant impacts to the power grid system. Therefore, more advanced generators, power electronic systems, and control solutions have to be introduced to improve the characteristics of the wind power plant and make it more suitable to be integrated into the power grid. Meanwhile, there are also some emerging technology challenges, which need to be further clarified and investigated. The global electrical energy consumption is still rising and there is a steady demand to increase the power capacity. The production, distribution and the use of the energy should be as technological efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end user should be set up. The deregulation of energy has lowered the investment in larger power plants, which means the need for new electrical power sources may be very high in the near future. Two major technologies will play important roles to solve the future problems. One is to change the electrical

Advertisements do not have any effects on what we need. We don t watch and add about how we need to eat food to stay alive; we have hunger for that. However, Advertisements greatly affect what we want. Do we want basic cereal or the fancy kind that athletes promote, or can we live with a plain shirt or do we want the one with a guy riding a horse emblem? These want that stray away from our basic needs are all driven by advertisement. No one is born wanting a Gucci shirt, they are taught and conditioned to want one. You can look at the theories about mass media consumption and apply it to advertisements. For example, in the dawn of mass media it was thought that the hypodermic needle theory, or magic bullet theory, was how audiences reacted to the media. This theory stated that when an audience consumed a certain facet of media like a radio talk show, the media content would be directly injected into the audience. Therefore, the audience would automatically respond to the stimuli. In this way the first advertisements were just information that stated that something was better than another product in the hope that, like an injection, the information would cause the audience to go out and buy their

The first step is the formation of the carbocation once the leaving group departs from the molecule. The type of leaving group is vital in determining if an SN1 reactionwill occur. In general, the efficiency of the leaving group increases as the size of the halide ion increases. However, p Toluensulfonate is the most effective and reactive leaving group. As this step forms a carbocation, it is important to note that the type of carbocation that will form. SN1 reactions will not occur if the intermediate is not stable. Correspondingly, primary alkyl halides are the least likely to react. Additionally, the solvent has the ability to stabilize the carbocation. Since SN1 reactions are dependent on the formation of the carbocation, and that step occurs separately from the nucleophilic addition, the rate of the reaction is not typically affected by the nature or concentration of the nucleophile. The mechanism of an SN1 reaction is consistent. First, the leaving group leaves forming the carbocation. The intermediate carbocation is planar and achiral. The nucleophile is then free to attack from either side of the carbocation, which forms the substituted product in either a racemic mixture or with some form of

Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new Olympian order. Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas with the spear of allies,

The purpose of the bill was to Establish a duty of neutrality and reserve for all state personnel, particularly through limiting the religious symbols that may be worn by public workers. Essentially all noticeable and exposed religious symbols or articles of clothing were banned for those targeted by the changed Charter. Additionally, it was made mandatory to have an uncovered face during the provision or receiving of any state services. The argument made by the Minister responsible for the ... When the bill was denied, the issue was solved , despite it being the minority not in favour. This is proof that the solution of not passing the bill was not enough of a solution, as many people wanted neutralism in the public work force. (CBC News, 2013) One potential solution to adhere to the needs and wants of Quebecers is to strike a compromise between neutralism and the Rights of Canadians. While technically a Protestant faith, the Mormons generally share more doctrine with the Catholics. Because of its unique nature, I will be analyzing the Mormon faith, its history, organization, and doctrine, in comparison with the beliefs held by both Catholics and Protestants. Establishment On April 6, 1980, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (aka the Mormon Church) was founded. Both Martin Luther and John Wesley shared the belief that Catholic faith had strayed from the truth as is seen in their respective quotes: I have sought nothing beyond reforming the Church in conformity with the Holy Scriptures. . . . . . . I simply say that Christianity has ceased to exist among those who should have preserved it. (Luther and His Times, E.G. Schweibert) and It does not appear that these extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were common in the Church for more than two or three centuries. We seldom hear of them after that fatal period when the Emperor Constantine called himself a Christian; . . . From this time they almost totally ceased; . . . The Christians had no more of the Spirit of Christ than the other Heathens . . . . This was the real cause why the extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were no longer to be found in the Christian Church; because the Christians were turned Heathens again, and had only a dead form left. (The Works of John Wesley, vol. 7) While the Mormons agree with other Protestants that the Catholic Church had become corrupt with its indulgences , purchase of church offices, etc., the Mormons differed somewhat in their solution to this problem. The Protestants sought to reform the problems they saw evident in the Catholic faith. The Mormons, however, believing that all faiths upon the Earth had fallen away from the true church established by Christ, sought to restore

  • 26. The Pros And Cons Of Asymmetrical Warfare Asymmetrical warfare is an appealing choice to those who may not have a military force to use. This type of warfare is a murderous tactic and has become more popular war tactic since the end of the cold world war. To resort to terror is not always chosen because the enemy is more powerful. It can happen between two great powers as the conflict becomes a total war and societies escalate against each other cutting away civilized restraints. For example, in 1950s Strategic Air Command targeteers would find ways to cause bonus damage by aiming blasts so adjacent towns would be destroyed as well (Howard Hoffman, 2012). The goal here was not to kill civilians per se, but to wreak havoc on the enemy s economy. This type of strategic attackcan be hard to understand, but even states with legitimate purposes have sometimes resorted to this strategy in order to revert to a single standard which puts deliberate attacks against civilians beyond pale. Primacy and asymmetrical warfare is also seen when the power is grossly imbalanced. In these cases, using terror to coerce may seem like the only effective way to force the weaker side. This leaves them with the choice to surrender or be savage back. Radical Muslim zealots are a good example. They cannot compete with American power or with conventional military means, so they substitute attacks on high profile political targets to make the biggest impact (Howard Hoffman, 2012). It is because I suggest some ways to advertise our organization like the Facebook page and the website. However, I am an avoider at the same time since sometimes I didn t take the presentation very
  • 40. The Current Study Has Tested The Episodic Memory Essay The current study has tested the episodic memory; how everyday brand experience left a mark in the memory and tried to discover that when these brands have been tested, could people able to separate previously shown brands and new brands from each other. Therefore, it examined whether familiarity or recollection would be more superior. Moreover, the source memorywas tested using these brand logos. As a conclusion, this study was needed to use recollection to remember details in the source memory to press the correct button during the experiment. The behavioural results provided that the type of modality influenced the response time and visual brands helped to participants to decide quicker than acoustic which supported the hypothesis. However, expected to be responded faster to old brands, it was otherwise. On the other hand, accuracy was influenced by neither modality nor old /new effect. Old/new brands have been analyzed in two separate time frames (FN400/ LPC) to understand the neural correlates of familiarity or recollection. In general, both at FN400 and LPC s electrodes were in the same direction as a whole, but they did not have the same effect at the same time compared to amplitudeand latency. FN400 (300 500ms) FN400 component is associated with familiarity (Rugg Wilding, 2000 Paller, et al., 2007; Curran, 2000) and in this current experiment, the FN400 were significant, according to timing, amplitude and topographical distribution for old/new effect.
  • 41. Essay Slavery in the Bible Slavery in the Bible The first mention of slavery in the Bible is found in Noah s declaration, Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers (Gen. 9:25). He said this after waking up from a naked, drunken stupor and learning that his son Ham had mocked him. Although Ham was the guilty party, Noah s statement was directed at Ham s youngest son Canaan. If he was involved with his father in this act of disrespect, the statement can be taken as the pronouncement of a curse, Cursed be Canaan. It is possible, however, that Canaan did not join his father in making fun of Noah. If so, the statement would be in the form of a prophecy: Cursed will be Canaan. Exodus 20:5 and Ezekiel 18:4 clearly declare that God punishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About 500 years after the death of Abraham, his descendants through Isaac were living in Egypt as slaves. Genesis 37 to 50 tells the story of how this came about. The 10 oldest sons of Abraham s grandson Jacob disliked their younger brother Joseph so much that they found a way to sell him to traders who in turn sold him to an Egyptian officer as a slave. In his new land, Joseph went through a series of ups and downs and eventually became the prime minister of Egypt, the highest official under the king. God enabled Joseph to foresee an approaching time of famine, and used him to store up food and then distribute it during the famine. His political position made it possible for him to settle his father s family in Egypt s most fertile territory. Here they prospered for many years. However, the time came when the leaders of Egypt began to view the rapidly growing Israelite community as a threat. As a result, they made slaves of the Israelites, treating them with ever increasing harshness. Finally, desperate because the descendants of Jacob continued to multiply, they issued an order that all their male babies be destroyed at birth. The first 12 chapters of Exodus tell the story of how the Lord responded to the cries of His people. He miraculously provided Moses to be their leader, sent 10 plagues on the Egyptians, helped the Israelites celebrate their first Passover, and led them out of the land of bondage. It appears that as they left for Canaan, they had no

Environmental Impact Assessment (Eia) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): * A formal process to predict the environmental consequence of human development activities and to plan an appropriate measure to eliminate or reduce the adverse impacts and to augment positive impacts. * EIA is an attempt to identify measure and evaluate the environmental impacts of a course of actions. Here, actions mean any development, strategy which will change an existing system. * According to LGED, assessment of beneficial and adverse change in the environmental resources or values, resulting from any proposed project. Methods available for conducting EIA study are: * Checklist method * Matrix method * Overlays method * Network diagram method * Baseline studies *... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The matrix comprises the environmental components found in a given study area, listed along both axes of the matrix: the cells then represent possible linkages between the components. This is illustrated in Figure . The analyst codes those cells where a direct link exists a 1 , the other cells have a 0 . On multiplying the matrix by itself, the resultant matrix indicates those components that can be reached within one (direct link) or two (indirect link) steps from another component. Further matrix multiplication can identify 3 , 4 , 5 step links between the environmental components. • 43. Technology Advances All The Time Essay Technology advances all the time, but often we question the necessity of the new inventions. In the 1980s, in vitro fertilisation was still a very new body of science. The information was limited to the people who actually could and would participate in the studies, as simulating human pregnancy in animals is difficult. The actual procedure, however, includes a donated egg, sperm, and simulating mitosis in a test tube then injecting it into a woman s womb. Ruth Hubbard is the first female professor of the sciences at Harvard University to get tenure. As A woman, a feminist, and a biologist , she negatively viewed the new science behind the in vitro procedure in the 1980s. She proclaims two years after the publication of in vitro, that the development of the science is wrong. Ruth Hubbard effectively uses her concerns for women s safety in her Test Tube Babies: Solution or Problem? , to persuade her general audience that the performance of in vitro fertilization is not the correct way to address the inability to give birth due to the underdeveloped nature of the science. She then successfully questions the need for in vitro science, by offering alternative methods to become a parent as well as criticizing societal expectations of women. Ruth Hubbard convinces the audience of her perspectives of the in vitro policy with her stern disquiet. Yet, she begins with a potential counter argument, that the procedure had been done before. By providing an example of three cases
  • 44. Rainbow And Brook Trout Research Paper Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout. Those are the 3 species of trout in the southern Appalachians. Brook trout are native to the Georgia Appalachians, while rainbow and brown trout are not. Rainbow trout came from California and were introduced to the Georgian Appalachian around 1875. They have populated Georgia well and have sustained a great habitat. Brown trout actually came from overseas, Europe. They came to the Americas and have found a home in Georgia. The brook trout usually has a light colored underbelly with a brown speckled body. The rainbow trout lives up to its name, it has a colorful body and white body. The brown trout are you guessed it brown, with a yellow underbelly. The artificial fly is what you think, a fishing lure that
