The wild donkey population has been reduced by 90% in the last 20 years due to hunting for its meat used in medicine and food, as well as deaths from lack of water. Conservation efforts are needed to protect the remaining wild donkeys from extinction, as interbreeding with common donkeys also threatens the species. Bactrian camels, the last species of wild camel, are divided into two subspecies and more nature parks are being built to protect individuals from extinction through the efforts of wildlife organizations.
