To whom it may concern:
My name is Larry Opinsky and I have operated a domestic shoe company in Missouri since 1981.
This letter serves to recommend Alan Estes for employment. I hired him at the beginning of 2014 to
fill the role of factory manager. Alan worked for me until August of 2015.
Alan met and exceeded all of my expectations. He has a detailed knowledge of electrical systems,
machinery, computer networks, computer software, and industrial design. He oversaw as many as
25 people on the factory floor and administratively. He quickly learned the nuances of our production
facility and its staff. He exhibited excellent workplace characteristics and consistently lead by
example. Most importantly he got results.
Alan developed and implemented several new systems at the company that endure today. He
recycled older systems and tied them together on the shop floor to help streamline production
methods and eliminated wasted time with paperwork. He expanded a computer controlled
implementation on an injection machine to upgrade productivity and increase quality. He also put in
place a hiring, training, and discipline system along with a new management structure. All of these
efforts greatly improved the quality of the workforce and thus the quality of the shoes.
Alan also has skills using CAD industrial modeling software. He was able to take several existing
paper 2D models and digitize them. He also learned the basics of shoe design and construction
while working on new customer projects with the modeling software. These models were put into
production on two different occasions.
Finally, the factory location was relocated during his tenure as manager. Alan developed,
implemented, and supervised all aspects of this relocation. It included detailed inventory of raw
materials and finished goods, scheduling of the move to minimize customer deliveries, and moving of
several multi-ton machines. He also did this under a very tight timeline and with zero worksite
injuries. He rose to a monumental task and succeeded within the timelines that were demanded.
It was a pleasure to have Alan run my factory. He is a friendly, high-energy individual with a great
sense of humor. I would highly recommend him to any company looking for a skilled, competent
leader.
