Contents Review of future tense forms.  Vocabulary of marketing and strategic planning.  Expressions used in business presentations. Objectives By the end of this lesson you:  Will understand the use of the present simple and present continuous in order to talk about future situations.  Will understand the difference in use and meaning between will and going to.  Will be able to use these future forms in order to prepare a short talk.
Strategy What is the implication of a “strategy” in business? What do you know about it?  Imagine that you want to start up with your own restaurant. What are the steps that you would have to follow before investing your money in facilities, food and staff? In another scenario, let’s suppose that you already have your own clothing company but you want to increase the number of items being sold each month. What strategies would you have to assume in order to improve your sales?  In this lesson, we will focus our attention in the importance of having a strategy for a business. We are going to watch a video with a brief introduction to the topic. Before watching the video make a list of the things that, according to you, are of extreme importance in strategic planning. Once you have done this proceed to answer the activity in the forum section. Lesson 2
Grammar   Now that you know that good planning can bring leverage, context and direction to your business. We are going to focus our attention in some expressions  related to future actions, look: Present  Simple as future:  a) Every Monday we start the meeting at 8 ó clock.  b) The  economic forecast  doesn’t  change for the next two months.  Present Continuous as future: Next week we are changing our marketing department to a new office.  Tomorrow, at 7.30 am we are having lunch with Mark, so don’t be late. Future with Going to The Marketing department is going to hold a SWOT meeting for the new product.  Marion and Terry are going to travel to USA on October 9 th  2010. Future with Will I think we’ll need to change the slogan for the new campaign. People seem to hate it.  They say they will design something completely different from what was planned before. The Present Simple as future is going to be used: a)When we talk about frequent actions. Every day I go to work at 9 o clock. He works late every Wednesday.  b) Situations that are seen as timetable Every year they held elections . The plane leaves at 7:30 am tomorrow. Grammar   Lesson 2
The Present Continuous as future is used: Situations in which the emphasis is in the action. They are meeting tomorrow morning, so don’t call him, please. We are having our things removed by the supervisor. The Future with  Going to  is used:  When we have strong evidence of  the action. I’m pretty sure they are going to bring the material for this campaign They claim they are going to break their own record. The future Will+ infinitive is used: For predictions and spontaneous decisions I guess they will be here by noon with the latest report.  Will you come and get me the latest news on the  office? Grammar  Lesson 2
Grammar  The future with will+ present perfect is used: When we want to explain that one action is going to be finished by the time another one happens. By the time they arrive here the plane will have left.  The product will have been on the market for five years by next month.  Lesson 2
