FUTURE TENSE
FUTURE TENSE
On the surface, using will in a sentence
seems straightforward. One is talking about
the future. But the meaning of future
sentences using will goes deeper than
that. English speakers use ‘will’ for four
different reasons: to predict a future event (It
will snow in January), to express a
spontaneous decision (I’ll do it. I’ll ask him out
right now), to show a willingness to do
something (We’ll decorate for the dance), and
to make a promise (I will call at seven).
The formula for the simple future
is

will + [root form of verb].
‱ I will learn a new language.
‱ Jen will read that book.
‱ My brothers will sleep till noon if no
one wakes them up.
