Lessonobjectives:
By the end of the lesson, each child will be able to:
 Describe cells as the building blocks if life.
 Categorise organisms into unicellular and multi-cellular.
 Observe an animal cell and a plant cell under a microscope.
 Draw the structure of an animal cell and a plant cell.
LessonIntroduction:
After entering the class, there will be exchange of greetings between students and teacher.
Teacher will ask how they are doing and students will response to teacher. Teacher will say our
surrounding is full of different kinds of living organisms. All living organisms are made up of
cells. Generally, cells are so small that they cannot be seen with our naked eyes. They can be
seen only with the help of a microscope. Some organisms are made up of single cell while others
are made up of many cells. Cells vary in shape and size. Inside a cell there are several essential
structures which carry out different functions. Then teacher will very fist topic from this chapter,
we are going to look about “Cell- The Building Block of Life”. Then teacher will write the topic
on the chalk board.
LessonDevelopment:
Information input:
 Our body is made up of many cells which carry different functions to keep us alive just
like the bricks which make up building.
 Cell is the structural and functional unit of all living organisms.
 The branch of Science that deals with the study of cell is known as cytology.
 Organisms that are made up of single cell are called unicellular organisms.
Example: Amoeba, yeast, bacteria
 Organisms that are made up of many cells are called multi-cellular organisms.
Example: tree, human, birds.
 Cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke.
 Human ovum is the biggest human cell.
Learning Activities:
After done with lesson input to reinforce the lesson, teacher will provide students with learning
activity. To do the activity teacher will divide the students into different groups. Teacher will
provide all the materials needed to carry out the activities. In their respective group, students will
carry out the activity 1.1 Observing Plant cell. To do the activity students will follow the
procedures provided in their text on page number 6 and 7. To do the activity, students will be
provided with 15 minutes after that from each group one of them will share their findings with
the whole class.
Monitoring of activity:
After students are assigned with the activity, teacher will move around and see whether students
are doing the work or not. If found let them carry out the activity. Teacher will help the needy
ones to carry out their activity.
Follow up of activity:
After students are done with the activity, teacher will ask one of the members from each group to
present their findings and let others listen. Teacher will also supplement the students sharing to
make it clear.
Lessonclosure:
At the end of the lesson, teacher will ask a few students to summarize the whole lesson. Teacher
will also briefly touch the lesson once again. After that, teacher will ask whether the students
have any doubts to be cleared. Then teacher will clarify the doubts and close the lesson. Teacher
will say thank you and see you in the next class.
