STARTER: 
 Write down the meaning of the word genre in your own words: 
Genre is a word that describes a type of movie, series 
or episode 
 Write down the meaning of the word genre covnentions in your own 
words: 
Genre conventions is different types of scenes for 
example, comedy and romance is a romcom
MAIN TASK: Annotate this film poster to show 3-5 conventions of the 
horror genre that have been used 
Creepy old house 
The splattered blood across the title 
shows that theres a lot of killing 
involved 
The dark colours also show that 
there’s a lot of violence and revenge 
in this movie
Extension 1: find another horror film poster to annotate. Copy and paste 
the image below 
The big house in 
the back, to 
signify maybe that 
most of the action 
takes place there 
The dark colours show that scenes in 
this film contain actions of evilness, 
remorse, anger and unhappiness 
The dark eyes show that 
there’s maybe revenge or 
evilness deep inside him , 
also that it might not be 
him anymore 
Extension 2: now do the same for a film poster from another genre
The colours are bright to represent 
the good mood of the film 
Their body language shows a 
lot of love and happiness 
The title shows a journey, live love 
and let go 
The shine in his eyes and also the colour of 
them shows that he’s more than happy
