Prevention of
Lifestyle Diseases

Lifestyle Diseases
•Lifestyle diseases are common
nowadays because of the different
risk factors that expose many people
to acquire such ailments. Early, the
frequency or number of individuals
with lifestyle diseases increases.
•This is an alarming issue that needs
an immediate address. It is very
important to practice precautionary
measures to prevent the
occurrence of these diseases
through involvement in various
physical activities or active
recreation and changes in eating
habits.
Common Lifestyle
Diseases
A. Obesity
•This is the excessive part of a
person gained from food or
inactive lifestyle. If a child is still
obese at the age of 13, there is an
80% chance of becoming obese in
their adulthood life.
•Likewise, if the
parents are also
obese, there will
also be a chance
that their children
will be obese too
because it's a
reflection of the
family's way of life.
•If it will not be given much
attention, obesity may lead to high
blood pressure, heart disease, and
diabetes. Therefore, awareness of
the daily calories' intake is
necessary to prevent such
diseases.
The don'ts of eating:
•Fitness and exercises are
equally important but
sustaining lifetime fitness
requires not only physical
involvement but at the same
time good eating habits.
•Regular participation in
vigorous physical activities
and proper diet should
complement each other
•It is important to have an intake
of food that will provide energy
and not food that will harm the
body and may also bring
lifestyle diseases
These are poor eating habits that should be
avoided
•Skipping breakfast
•Weight targets
•not eating fruits and vegetables
•night, social, and emotional
eating
How to know if you are overweight or obese
•Calculating body must index will
assess whether a person is
overweight or obese. The BMI of
every person changes according to
the age and physical development.
How to overcome obesity?
•Exercise daily
•Eat only went hungry
•reduce passive pastimes
•eat balanced meal
B. Diabetes
•This pertains to a person's condition
wherein the amount of sugar (glucose)
in the blood is too high and the body
cannot use it properly because it
cannot enter the body cell.
•The fuel for energy cannot be used for
work and play
•Model moderation in
every task should be
prioritized to develop
healthy practices. Active
recreation of at least 30
minutes daily such as
walking, jogging, and
running should be done.
•For teenagers, avoiding
inactive recreation and
changing bad health habits
should be encouraged both
in school and at home.
C. Heart diseases
•The leading global
cause of death are
heart diseases.
How to avoid heart problems?
•Adopt A healthy lifestyle
•have a diet rich in fruits, vegetables,
and whole grains to protect the heart
•change unhealthy lifestyle
•practice regular physical involvement
•stay happy and avoid life stressors
Time to reflect
•A positive and healthy lifestyle takes a lot of
time and effort. It is important to give and
maintain the body's weight through good
eating habits and regular involvement in
physical activities. If a person knows how to
take good care of his health, lifestyle
diseases will be avoided.
Come to think of it
•Answer what if on page 18 of physical
education.
•Exercise and proper eating habits are two
factors which prevent the occurrence of
lifestyle diseases. If you are to create your own
meal and exercise program to fight increasing
rate of this alarming issue, what would it be?
Explain your work in class.
