Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection spread through contact with infected water, soil, or animal urine which burrows under the skin and enters the bloodstream, reproducing in major organs like the liver and kidneys. If left untreated, the bacteria can cause blood infections and a high fever, and reaching the liver or kidneys can prove fatal; symptoms include muscle stiffness, weakness, depression, and diarrhea.
