1. From Daniel Krieger (2005), he suggested the flow of the lesson in
teaching debate in the classroom. It is divided into 6 sets. It is up to the
teachers’ discretion on the execution of the lessons. You may read it

Class Six: The Debate
Having a debate in the
classroom is not all bad. While
many choose a safe form of
interaction, as to avoid
confrontation, we can think of
debate as an activity that
inculcates thinking skills in our
learners.
Let us show you the alternatives
on how to teach debate and at
the same time encouraging
positive atmosphere among the
learners, and the teacher (of
course!) in the classroom.

To find a topic, teachers need to
look for materials that are
suitable for the learners.
Consider this:
Do you think your pupils
can debate on this topic?
Do they have enough
experience and
knowledge regarding to
debate?
Next, learners need to look for
information. Information may
come from various resources. It
may be from books,
newspapers, flyers or as simple
as googling it on the internet.
Now that the learners have
some knowledge on the topic,
teacher can guide them on how
to start a debate.
