Hello,
I arrived at Sibiu International Airport on March 3rd
coming from Leiria, Portugal where I
stayed for about 4 months.
Look at me waiting for the flight to Sibiu at Munich International Airport!
Let me tell you a few things about Sibiu. It lies in the centre of Romania, a nice country
in the South-East of Europe.
Sibiu, or Hermannstadt as it was known, was one of the seven walled cities built by
Saxon settlers (Germans) in Transylvania during the 12th century.

This is the Coat of Arms of Sibiu
Sibiu is situated at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains in Southern Carpathians. It is a
beautiful medieval city which worth visiting. It has preserved its picturesque medieval
atmosphere almost everywhere. In Sibiu’s historical centre, there are important
monuments, many of which are part of the UNESCO patrimony. Here, in the historical
centre, you can see: The Large Square(or Big Sguare),The Small Square,The Liar’s Bridge,
Brukenthal Museum, all surrounded by old buildings with “eyes” on their roofs.

School Nr.13 is situated in a district not far from the city centre, called “Terezian”, after
Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.
When I arrived at School nr.13 the pupils were waiting for me with flowers.
I was warmly welcomed by all the pupils and their teachers. I showed them my diary
and my rucksack with things from my homeland, Italy.

On 8th
March we celebrated together Women’s Day with songs and poems.
They showed me how they made greetings card for their mothers.

17th March-My Birthday
For my birthday the pupils from my school in Bojano, Italy, and the Romanian pupils
arranged a Skype session. I was really impressed when I heard the Italian Anthem sung
by my school friends.
My Italian schools colleagues are singing “Happy Birthday!”

My Birthday Party
Class 4B gave a small party with sweets on my birthday. The children made me feel
loved, special and cared.
During lessons I stayed on all children’s desks. All pupils wanted me to sit next to each of
them. I told them about my country, my school, about pupils, about our school uniform
and out daily programme. In Romania children don’t go to school on Saturday but in
Italy we do.
It’s nice to have friends who look after you.
I didn’t feel homesick.

Week 7th –11th April 2014- “A Different Kind
of School: Know More, Be Better!“
This week was dedicated to educational extracurricular activities, within the programme
entitled “A Different Kind of School: Know More, Be Better!“. A week without lessons
and homework but with a lot of interesting activities: visits to museums, factories,
trips,etc. and a lot of sport.
I was at the theatre with Andreea and her colleagues, class 8B, and saw a lovely comedy.
I made lamp shades with class 2A,

and class I A.
I made beautiful paintings. I learned folk dances.

I did gymnastics and took part in the school sports day as a referee.

With class 6A and their form teacher I learned to make a fruit salad and had a role in a
play. We were applauded by the audience I even got a diploma for my performance.

I also visited a handbag factory with class 2A.This is a leather sewing machine.
This week was very important for me because I learned many things and had a lot of
useful experiences.

Easter Sunday 2014 in Romania
I spent Easter Sunday with Andreea and Maria’s family. In the morning we had the
traditional Easter food: painted boiled eggs, “pasca”(sweet bread ), cozonac (rectangular
long shaped cake filled with ground nuts) and roast lamb.
We knocked eggs and I said: :
“Jesus is risen!” and Maria said:”He is risen, indeed!”

In villages the paint for the Easter eggs is still obtained from plants. More and more
people dye eggs naturally with onion skins.

I am very proud of my work!

I also knocked Easter eggs with Martinel’s Family. They all miss Martinel.
At the beginning of May we had another Skype session with my school in Bojano.I was
very happy to tell them how I spent my Easter Holiday with the Romanian family and
Martinel’s family.

At the Airport
On 29th
April I paid a visit at Sibiu International Airport with class 8B.
We simulated a check-in and then went through passport control and security control.
Then went on the runway and service area, not far from an airplane which was about to
take off. It was another exciting experience.

This visit at the airport reminded me that in less than two weeks I had to start school in
another country, Denmark.I can’t wait meeting everyone there.I’m sure it will be great!
A Weekend with Ana
But before packing up I spent a last weekend with my friend Ana,class 4B.
I had a very enjoyable time with ana and her family.We did homework together.
Ana read me Romanian tales before going to bed.

We played together out in the country and had a go on a swing.

On Sunday she took me to the Zoo, in Dumbrava Forest,a natural park near Sibiu.I saw
the camels,the ostriches,the lions,tigers,stags,deers,and of course,the bears.
We ended the day rowing a boat on the lake.We had great fun.I’ll miss you Ana!

I said good-bye to my Romanian friends.I will never forget them.
I will meet them again in May 2015 at the end of our project.
They all said: ”Good-bye, Lea! We will
miss you!” “Good-Bye!.I said sadly, I’ll miss you, too! But keep in
touch!”
