PART – I
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
This subject is related to individual behaviour, group behaviour and its understanding in an
organisational context. We all have some generalisation of concepts in predicting what people
do & will do in a particular situation. But this is inadequate. An systematic approach is needed
to understand facts and relationships. Behaviour is not random. It is caused & directed towards
some end that the individual believes, rightly or wrongly. Certainly there are differences
between individuals. All people do not act the same way. There are insistency in some
behaviour. These fundamental consistencies are important for every manager to understand
rationally in terms of perception, conflicts, leadership & attitude to manage with superior,
colleagues and subordinates. After learning these basics students should be able to appreciate,
“Why” of human behaviour and the basic strategy to bring change in self group & organisation.
UNIT – I
Concept, nature & foundation of behaviour , models of organisational behaviour & challenges
for management. OB relationship with other fields. Understanding of cognitive, behavioural and
social cognitive framework in organisational context. Basic definition for clarity in perspective
to understand human behaviour.
UNIT – II
Perception, nature and its importance in OB different approaches to perception. Attitude, basis
of formation, concepts of measurement of attitude & factors in diversity of workforce.
Personality concepts, factors in formation, types & theories of shaping personality relation to
Job satisfaction, learning concepts, curves & theory & relation to work environment. Case study
& discussions.
UNIT – III
Motivation concepts, principles, theories and application in practice. Concepts of employees
involvement programmes recognition of employees concept & usage. Strategy of motivating
diverse workforce. Case study discussing concept & practice.
Leadership, definition, different theories, trait based, behavioural concept, situational &
democratic styles of leadership. Understanding yours own leadership style. Interpersonal
relationships, group dynamics definition, stages of group development, types & process of group
cohesiveness. Decision making process, concepts & styles. Two case studies on group
dynamics & leadership.
2. UNIT – IV
Understanding concept of power & politics in organisational context. Sources of power and
authority & distinction between the two approaches to power and implication of political power.
Dysfunctional uses of power.
Knowledge management concept & its relevance in the modern management. Emotional
intelligence concept & its implication in the contemporary business organisation.
Change management in organisational context. Its concept, factors to resistance in change &
strategy to facilitate change process. Kurl Lewin model of managing change and
implementation of change in organisation.
Conflicts : concepts, causes, sources, category Functional dystanctional conflicts. Classification
Intra, Individual, interpersonal, intergroup & organisational wide conflicts. Strategy to manage
conflicts. Understanding grievances in process of managing in organisational context,
understanding impact of unresolved grievances on individual & groups.
Stress : meaning, concept, causes & consequences strategy to manage concepts in organisation.
Organisation culture – meaning, factors contributing in formation of culture, elements of
organisation culture & its reflection in work behaviour. Process of developing organisation
culture.
Three case Studies : From the corporate covering change management, conflicts &
organisation culture.
