Bernadette Boas shares her experiences, lessons learned, and tips for igniting the true leader within women who want to pursue and achieve their career, business and life goals, once and for all.
Bernadette presents her story, advice and thought leadership in both keynote and training workshop form for small to corporate size companies and women associations.
In this talk, I will share do's and don'ts on how to onboard successfully in a remote or hybrid setup including moving to a leadership role, speaking from my own journey onboarding remotely in the midst of a global pandemic.
I will share the tips that worked for me for successful onboarding, how I was able to be productive, impactful, and make a good impression on others. The key issues as an “onbordee” that I will talk about are how to create relationships, make yourself visible in the company, time management, and more.
Since I started working in Augury over 100 new employees have joined the company. Each month I give a session that is part of their general onboarding process. This became a crucial step due to the fact that we are now a hybrid company and a lot of people are onboarding remotely or in a hybrid setup for the first time in their lives.
I joined the company as a backend developer and a few months into my role, the squad leader position in my squad was up for grabs and I was fortunate enough to grab it :) This is my first official leadership role, which I also needed to onboard into in a hybrid setup. I will share the process that I built for myself on “How to lead”. Also, a word or two on the process we built as a squad on how we work in a hybrid setup, what are we optimizing for when we do meet and how to include new members of the team.
What is personal brand? Why is building social capital so important in social networks? And 21 practical tips for using LinkedIn to grow your personal brand and social capital.
In this two-part workshop, we first explore what makes a good founding team, and invite participants to reflect on what roles (hacker, hipster, hustler) they prefer and what skills they bring to the table. We further invite them to think about what they are passionate about. In the second part of the workshop, we explore the importance of defining clear roles and responsibilities, and go through Harvard University Professor Linda Hill's 5 key takeaways for good team process.
Paul Blanchard, a media personality, Managing Director of Right Angles, and the host of the Media Masters podcast, has interviewed hundreds of legendary business leaders, including Sir Martin Sorrell, Mark Thompson, and Sir Trevor McDonald. Paul will discuss in a no-holds-barred session the importance of leadership in an age of naked digital transparency. It's very hard to remain calm under pressure when customers and prospects are tweeting insults at you at 3 a.m. - how can leaders make it work?

Breaking the Code of Interview Implicit Bias to Value Different Gender Competencies
Bonita Banducci, Banducci Consulting
Live at Santa Clara University - Room #330C located on the 3rd floor of the Learning Commons
Session Length: 1 hour
Implicit Bias Workshops and exercises are being shared widely on the internet. Some of the solutions are:
"Determine precisely what skills and attributes you are hiring for."
"Ask exactly the same questions to each candidate."
But what about the implicit bias in determining what skills you are valuing--beyond traditional management and leadership competencies?
How can interviewers recognize the often invisible, unarticulated, undervalued and often misinterpreted competencies of more "relational and collectivist" people--often women and men and women from different cultures?
Bonita Banducci teaches Gender and Engineering class in Santa Clara University's School of Engineering Graduate Program. In video and cartoon representation as well as in person, her students apply Gender Competence®--understanding and skills to work with gender (and cultural) differences as competencies--to job interviews both as the interviewer and the interviewee, as men and women. They show how to "mine the gold" of difference for the best candidate AND to get the job as the best candidate while establishing the value of relational competencies in the workplace and marketplace.
Learning Objective: Explore methods that help participants to focus on and improve leadership habits
In order to achieve innovative results, we need leaders who aren’t afraid to think and lead differently. Successful leaders know that lesson all too well and discern that their high-demand positions mean nothing without the ability to influence others to believe in their mission. So what’s their secret to successfully reaching the top? They must start with putting themselves at the top in their minds. Women have to begin with “I’m going to be the CEO.” The next step is to understand that you need to go out there and become that person. This seminar aims to inspire and empower women across the world to take on leadership roles, to lead change with more conviction and confidence, and to improve our workplaces and communities for all. By offering more complex understandings of issues related to professional women and work, we will help you increase self-knowledge about your own values and vision as well as enhance your capabilities as a leader.
At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:
a. Outline career success for the individual.
b. Identify leadership goals and aspirations.
c. Outline what organizations can do to provide women with opportunities for leadership.
d. Identify ways to inspire and empower women to engage and lead with conviction and confidence.
Rootstock's own Radicle Report, articulating our agency's thought leadership position. We distill that position and the strategy for articulating it in a Radicle Report like this one.
Your organization’s story is your most valuable asset. Your story can inspire action and create change.
In addition, non-profits that tell compelling stories tend to raise the most funds.
During this presentation we covered a variety of topics to help non-profit organizations to tell their story through social media means.
Topics included:
- Why storytelling
- Creating a plan
- Conveying the story with pictures
- Video storytelling checklist
- Case studies/examples

Do you know some who is a good leader? Some people say leaders are born, others say leaders are made, and most of the literature of the last decade says that it’s a skill you can learn. Which is it?
