Dr. Leonard received his A.B. in mathematics with high honors from Princeton and his M.D. from Stanford. Following
residency training in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital and a year of biochemistry research at Washington University in
St. Louis, he was post-doctoral fellow in the National Cancer Institute with Warner Greene and Thomas Waldmann. He now
is an NIH Distinguished Investigator, Chief, Laboratory of Molecular Immunology and Director, Immunology Center, NHLBI.
Dr. Leonard has received many awards, including the American Association of Immunologists (AAI)-Huang Foundation
Meritorious Career Award and the Honorary Lifetime Membership Award of the International Cytokine and Interferon
Society. He has more than 325 publications and 19 patents. He is on multiple editorial boards and a former co-Editor of
Immunity, is past-president of the International Cytokine Society, a member and former Vice-President of the Board of the
Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences, a Fellow of the AAAS, and a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM)
of the National Academies.
