It outlines 16 sections on how to browse and search journal contents, including by citation, title, author, case name, legislation and full text. Search functions allow use of Boolean and proximity operators. Results can be refined and articles can be printed, emailed or saved in PDF or HTML format.

2. 2. Standard Citations for Thomson Journals Table of Contents
Thomson journals follow a standard format of citation incorporating three components as
follows:
volume number + journal abbreviation + article start page number.
Standard abbreviations and examples are in the table below.

Tips: When searching for a journal article by citation it is important to type the exact
citation, including spaces, into the Journal Citation field.

3. 3. Browsing a Journal’s Contents Table of Contents
The Lawbook Online Table of Contents allows browsing through the Journal databases.
This is useful for establishing the currency and coverage of a journal, browse the
structure and layout of the journal database and find and display an article.
To Locate an Article (using
Java view)
1. Click on the + sign next to
Journals to expand and
display the list of journals

The full text field is used to construct a search across individual or multiple journal
databases. To search across all subscribed journals simply select All Journals
located at the top of the journals search form. Boolean and proximity operators may also
be used in this field to construct a search.

Search all journals for the phrase “proceeds of crime” and refine results with the term
“seizure”.
Step 1: Click on any journal title (listed under the Journals library) from the
homepage
Step 2: Select All Journals
Step 3: Type in proceeds of crime and select return records that have the
exact phrase option from the list or enter the phrase “proceeds of crime”

All Journal articles in Lawbook Online include the facility to print a PDF copy of the
article.
Step 1: Open the article in the document frame and click on “Click here for PDF print
version”

Step 1: Click on the Print Document tool located in the top right corner of the article
Step 2: Select one of the following options:
Print the current document
Pirint multiple documents selected in the table of contents
Print the current hitlist
Step 3: Click Continue
Step 4: Click Print

Step 2: From your Internet Browser click:
[File][Print] to print the article

14. 16. To Deep link a Journal Table of Contents
Lawbook Online provides the facility to deep link to a Journal’s product specific search
form. Use this on your intranet to provide quick access.
Step 1: Click on the journal title (listed under the Journals library) from the
homepage or select the database name eg Insolvency Law Journal
Step 2: Click on the Bookmark link located in the top right hand corner of the
search form. This will display a window with a URL reference.
