1. What is your research question?
What is the significance of extroversion and introversion in
marriage?
1. What is your hypothesis or hypotheses? What is the null
hypothesis?
Null Hypothesis: Extroversion brings along successful family
institution and marital bliss.
Alternate hypothesis: Extroversion does not bring along
successful family institution and marital bliss.
1. How many participants would you like to use and why? What
are the inclusion characteristics, i.e., what must they have in
order to be included in your study (for example, gender,
diagnosis, age, personality traits, etc.)? Are there any exclusion
characteristics, i.e. are there certain characteristics that would
exclude them from being in your study? Does the sample need
to be diverse? Why or why not?
20 participants will be engaged in the research study. This is a
small number that is easier to manage as well as coordinate
their activities during the data collection exercise. Ideally,
participants are required and are normally sampled from a large
population to be a representative. The nature of the study will
require the researcher to get participants who have experiences
in marriage. On gender, I will sample equal number of men and
women to act as the representative of the general population.
The approach is guided by the population in the community
where the number of women and men is at par. On age, I will
pick individuals from across ages although the highest
percentage will constitute of married individuals between the
age of 30 and 40 years. Further, I will also pick four individuals
who have divorced with the aim of understanding whether
introversion or extroversion contributed to their divorce. I will
also look at the personal traits of individuals; hence will both
social and anti-social individuals. The target participants will
precise, representative and homogeneous. They will then be
divided into different sets or strata that are mutually exclusive
in order to aid it obtaining a systematic process of research.
1. What sampling technique will be used to collect your sample?
What population does yoursample generalize to?
Being a qualitative research, the research will utilize the
sampling method in the collection of data. Surveying and
questionnaire are the main data collection methods that are
normally used in quantitative research. The methods aids in
understanding the behavior and effects from different members
of the focus groups. The approach helps to reduce biases that
may emerge when using a bigger population size while at the
same time guarantees that the information generated is
independent and representative. The data is required to be
objective and statistically applicable. The sample size was
determined by the impact size and the significance level. In
particular, sample surveying is a common, less time-consuming
and reliable method. In this method, data will be obtained from
a sample drawn from the population and conclusions are made
through estimations. The researcher can observe the results
closely and make remarks in the course of the study.
1. What are the variables in your study? HINT: Refer to your
hypothesis or hypotheses.
The variables in the study are extroversion and marital bliss
where extroversion is the dependent variable while marital bliss
is the independent variable.
1. Provide operational definitions for each variable.
Extroversion will be defined the nature of sociability levels of
an individual through engaging in social activities, as well as
his or her non-reservation about certain social matters. Marriage
Bliss will be quantified and measured through the happiness in
the given marriage, assessment of family problems, and divorce
levels.
1. How will you measure each variable? Discuss the reliability
and validity of these measures in general terms.
The measure for each variable will be done through the
descriptive method. This will be done by tallying up responses,
computing percentages of variations in response as well as
describing and interpreting the data in line with the study
objectives and assumptions. Content analysis can be used to test
data that is qualitative nature or aspect of the data collected
from the open-ended questions. The soundness in scale signifies
the content the test is designed to investigate and measure. An
ordinal scale is used in the level of measurement since it
enables the researcher to differentiate the data collected based
on their classification. In this study, the research utilizes the
measure of the degree to which data is collected using a specific
instrument that signifies a specific field or component of a
given concept as the measure for validity of the content.
1. What technique will be used for data collection (e.g.,
observation, survey, interview, archival, etc.)?
I will utilize the behavioral interview technique. This technique
entails focusing on the past performances and experiences of an
individual. In view of this, the interview questions will largely
be based on the past family experiences and encounters. The
interviewee is anticipated to give detailed account of the past
experiences, which include both successes and failures
encountered. Further, he or she will give information on the
significance of extroversion towards marital bliss. Other
methods include observation and sample surveying. Through
observation method, one gains gain insight into people deeds
through observations thus good at challenging the normative
assumptions. Through sample surveying, one acquires
information using a sample population while using estimation
method to generate conclusions.
1. What type of research design is being used?
In order to determine the appropriate research design, it is
crucial to define the nature of the problem. This brief provides
information from known sources and scrutinizing the current
approaches and the appropriate interventions on the matter
under study. The most suitable research design for the matter
under study is the experimental approach. This research design
has statistical significance differences in research outcomes and
employs a small sample population. The method is also helpful
when determining the quality of the findings and the
recommendations arising from the study. When considering the
issue of quality in research, Shauhnessey (2009) suggests that
an important question to ask is whether the research findings
represent accurately those features of the phenomena it is
intended to describe and explain.
1. Briefly discuss the procedure that would be followed when
conducting the research.
When conducting research, it is necessary for the research to
prepare adequately in terms of resources and materials. He or
she is supposed to identify the data collection, inform the
participants and avail the necessary resources. The research is
required to observe all the guidelines set for the research to
minimize incidences of biased results. With adequate
preparation, proper time and bias management techniques, the
researcher can get the desired results out of a study. In order to
reduce instances of bias, the researcher should ask follow-up
questions, clarifications, and in different approaches to avoid
getting misleading information. To increase reliability, the
researcher needs to include numerous identical items of measure
by testing a dissimilar sample of respondents and by using
consistent testing procedures.
1. What are some POTENTIAL ethical issues? How might they
be addressed?
Ethical considerations are necessary for any form of the
research study. While research may be well intentioned, there is
always a possibility that an interaction with the respondents
may inadvertently cause psychological or social harm. Seidman
(2013) notes that the breach of confidentiality and loss of
privacy are likely to cause harm to either the researcher or
respondents. Such a breach of confidentiality may raise serious
ethical issues especially in the area of health research (Seidman,
2013). Care to observe ethical considerations as required by
research principles are expected in all research studies. The
research should ensure that the right to privacy, anonymity,
voluntary participation, and to withdraw from participation at
any point are all protected. Adherence to ethical guidelines will
enable me to make ethical judgments and decisions that comply
with principles of research. The basic ethical principles are
autonomy, beneficence, justice, informed consent, privacy, and
confidentiality, and respect for the participants.

2. After acing their Econ 200 course, Connor and Nicholas
decide to start a business (C&N
Tutoring) offering economics tutoring on the Washburn
Campus. First they decide that they will
need to do some advertising and buy some textbooks and
markers, which works out to
approximately $20 per week. This $20 is a fixed cost since it
doesn’t change with the number of
hours per week they choose to tutor. Their only variable cost is
the opportunity cost of their time.
Their next best alternative to tutoring is earning $9 per hour at
their jobs. However, when they
tutor more than 20 hours per week the opportunity cost of their
time starts increasing, since its
means they have less time to spend with friends, studying or
sleeping. They calculate their
weekly costs as the following:

LASA 1 Final Project Early Methods Section3LASA 1.docx

  • 1. LASA 1 Final Project Early Methods Section3 LASA 1: FINAL PROJECT EARLY METHODS SECTION THE ROLE OF INTROVERSION AND EXTRAVERSION PERSONALITY TRAITS ON MARITAL BLISS STUDENT _______ UNIVERSITY PSY302-A01 Research Methods Professor April 15, 2015 Author Note: This research was carried out as a partial fulfillment towards research methods course by. Correspondence concerning this paper should be addressed to 1. What is your research question? What is the significance of extroversion and introversion in marriage? 1. What is your hypothesis or hypotheses? What is the null hypothesis? Null Hypothesis: Extroversion brings along successful family institution and marital bliss. Alternate hypothesis: Extroversion does not bring along successful family institution and marital bliss.
  • 2. 1. How many participants would you like to use and why? What are the inclusion characteristics, i.e., what must they have in order to be included in your study (for example, gender, diagnosis, age, personality traits, etc.)? Are there any exclusion characteristics, i.e. are there certain characteristics that would exclude them from being in your study? Does the sample need to be diverse? Why or why not? 20 participants will be engaged in the research study. This is a small number that is easier to manage as well as coordinate their activities during the data collection exercise. Ideally, participants are required and are normally sampled from a large population to be a representative. The nature of the study will require the researcher to get participants who have experiences in marriage. On gender, I will sample equal number of men and women to act as the representative of the general population. The approach is guided by the population in the community where the number of women and men is at par. On age, I will pick individuals from across ages although the highest percentage will constitute of married individuals between the age of 30 and 40 years. Further, I will also pick four individuals who have divorced with the aim of understanding whether introversion or extroversion contributed to their divorce. I will also look at the personal traits of individuals; hence will both social and anti-social individuals. The target participants will precise, representative and homogeneous. They will then be divided into different sets or strata that are mutually exclusive in order to aid it obtaining a systematic process of research. 1. What sampling technique will be used to collect your sample? What population does yoursample generalize to? Being a qualitative research, the research will utilize the sampling method in the collection of data. Surveying and questionnaire are the main data collection methods that are normally used in quantitative research. The methods aids in understanding the behavior and effects from different members of the focus groups. The approach helps to reduce biases that may emerge when using a bigger population size while at the
  • 3. same time guarantees that the information generated is independent and representative. The data is required to be objective and statistically applicable. The sample size was determined by the impact size and the significance level. In particular, sample surveying is a common, less time-consuming and reliable method. In this method, data will be obtained from a sample drawn from the population and conclusions are made through estimations. The researcher can observe the results closely and make remarks in the course of the study. 1. What are the variables in your study? HINT: Refer to your hypothesis or hypotheses. The variables in the study are extroversion and marital bliss where extroversion is the dependent variable while marital bliss is the independent variable. 1. Provide operational definitions for each variable. Extroversion will be defined the nature of sociability levels of an individual through engaging in social activities, as well as his or her non-reservation about certain social matters. Marriage Bliss will be quantified and measured through the happiness in the given marriage, assessment of family problems, and divorce levels. 1. How will you measure each variable? Discuss the reliability and validity of these measures in general terms. The measure for each variable will be done through the descriptive method. This will be done by tallying up responses, computing percentages of variations in response as well as describing and interpreting the data in line with the study objectives and assumptions. Content analysis can be used to test data that is qualitative nature or aspect of the data collected from the open-ended questions. The soundness in scale signifies the content the test is designed to investigate and measure. An ordinal scale is used in the level of measurement since it enables the researcher to differentiate the data collected based on their classification. In this study, the research utilizes the measure of the degree to which data is collected using a specific instrument that signifies a specific field or component of a
  • 4. given concept as the measure for validity of the content. 1. What technique will be used for data collection (e.g., observation, survey, interview, archival, etc.)? I will utilize the behavioral interview technique. This technique entails focusing on the past performances and experiences of an individual. In view of this, the interview questions will largely be based on the past family experiences and encounters. The interviewee is anticipated to give detailed account of the past experiences, which include both successes and failures encountered. Further, he or she will give information on the significance of extroversion towards marital bliss. Other methods include observation and sample surveying. Through observation method, one gains gain insight into people deeds through observations thus good at challenging the normative assumptions. Through sample surveying, one acquires information using a sample population while using estimation method to generate conclusions. 1. What type of research design is being used? In order to determine the appropriate research design, it is crucial to define the nature of the problem. This brief provides information from known sources and scrutinizing the current approaches and the appropriate interventions on the matter under study. The most suitable research design for the matter under study is the experimental approach. This research design has statistical significance differences in research outcomes and employs a small sample population. The method is also helpful when determining the quality of the findings and the recommendations arising from the study. When considering the issue of quality in research, Shauhnessey (2009) suggests that an important question to ask is whether the research findings represent accurately those features of the phenomena it is intended to describe and explain. 1. Briefly discuss the procedure that would be followed when conducting the research. When conducting research, it is necessary for the research to prepare adequately in terms of resources and materials. He or
  • 5. she is supposed to identify the data collection, inform the participants and avail the necessary resources. The research is required to observe all the guidelines set for the research to minimize incidences of biased results. With adequate preparation, proper time and bias management techniques, the researcher can get the desired results out of a study. In order to reduce instances of bias, the researcher should ask follow-up questions, clarifications, and in different approaches to avoid getting misleading information. To increase reliability, the researcher needs to include numerous identical items of measure by testing a dissimilar sample of respondents and by using consistent testing procedures. 1. What are some POTENTIAL ethical issues? How might they be addressed? Ethical considerations are necessary for any form of the research study. While research may be well intentioned, there is always a possibility that an interaction with the respondents may inadvertently cause psychological or social harm. Seidman (2013) notes that the breach of confidentiality and loss of privacy are likely to cause harm to either the researcher or respondents. Such a breach of confidentiality may raise serious ethical issues especially in the area of health research (Seidman, 2013). Care to observe ethical considerations as required by research principles are expected in all research studies. The research should ensure that the right to privacy, anonymity, voluntary participation, and to withdraw from participation at any point are all protected. Adherence to ethical guidelines will enable me to make ethical judgments and decisions that comply with principles of research. The basic ethical principles are autonomy, beneficence, justice, informed consent, privacy, and confidentiality, and respect for the participants.

First they decide that they will need to do some advertising and buy some textbooks and markers, which works out to approximately $20 per week. This $20 is a fixed cost since it doesn’t change with the number of hours per week they choose to tutor. Their only variable cost is the opportunity cost of their time. Their next best alternative to tutoring is earning $9 per hour at their jobs. However, when they tutor more than 20 hours per week the opportunity cost of their time starts increasing, since its means they have less time to spend with friends, studying or sleeping. They calculate their weekly costs as the following: C&N Tutoring
