Say hello to Sync with God, a mobile progressive web app to study and discuss Scripture with a focus on
Millennials and Gen Z, with mentorship from older adults.
Sync with God is a 501C(3) ministry that is a portal to a virtual small group experience under the leadership
of a mentor in both studying Scripture and understanding its relevance to life.
The app facilitates breakout sessions and invitations to participate.

2. Joe, who had attended church a few times at Christmas and Easter, enters the door of a church and
decides to look around since no one introduces themselves. He sees members talking to their friends. During
the service, people sing, they know when to stand and sit down. Joe reads a list of programs designed for
every age group and hears a 30-minute message, wishing he could ask questions. Joe walks out seeing no
difference in their lifestyle compared to people at his workplace.
Barna Research shows less than 2% of evangelical Christians in America witness weekly to unbelievers or
annually lead someone to Christ. Only 1% of pastors said “today’s churches are doing very well at discipling
new and young believers.”

As a former missionary at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, God broke my heart observing disunity
and confusion about Christianity in the body of Christ and outside, beginning in the late 1980s.
God spoke loudly that I was supposed to be part of the solution to help Millennials (19-34) and Gen. Z (13-
18) see God’s relevance in daily life, understand His story from Genesis to Revelation, and stay connected
with Him and with others.
We must develop a culture of Christ followers that becomes a natural part of life when people go to the
grocery store, to work, or meet with friends.
The church needs a culture shift to obey the command, “Go and make disciples (Christ followers) of all
nations” (Matthew 28:18-20). One becomes a disciple before he or she becomes a disciple maker.
Motivation is what gets you started. Skills are your ability to perform godly tasks. Knowledge and skills are
key enablers to achieve godly goals.
We acquire skillsets like disciple-making through training, experience or natural abilities. Knowledge is a
prerequisite to skills. Knowledge enables you to become a skilled disciple maker, and you can’t do it without
knowledge. The more knowledge about disciple-making and the more skilled in executing it, the greater the
likelihood of godly success. Knowledge and skills are mostly associated with learning developed through
teaching or experience.
Positive attitudes (multiplier of knowledge and skills for godly goals) are results of our beliefs and values
to form habits of thought, which impacts how we see ourselves and shapes significantly our godly behaviors.
Habit is what keeps you going. Attitudes and habits are cultivated through mentoring.
Why Sync with God?
We’ve learned that so far, no one has made this experience a possibility. No one has been able to
facilitate such an experience taking place in a space where many of us already spend much of our time,
something we rely on–our mobile devices. The opportunity for such transformative experiences does not exist–
so far.

Members study individually to prepare for mobile collaboration and video conferencing so the small group
can meet, interact, and be coached by a mentor. The app facilitates breakout sessions and invitations to
participate.
One application of Sync with God, in addition to the US, is India (88% unreached) with 2,223 Unreached
People Groups out of 6,000 totals in the world. An “unreached people group” is where there’s no indigenous
community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize this people group
without outside assistance.

3. A friend of mine, Mark Visvasam, lives in Chennai, India. He has 30 years of ministry leadership
experience with Campus Crusade and networking leaders in his country and around the world. Mark wants to
match US businessmen as mentors with similar counterparts in India to create businesses, jobs, and economic
development. Mark wants me to travel with him in India to launch the Sync app as a tool for both businessmen
and in the church.
Our next step is developing a five-session pilot to get user feedback and as a demo to raise funds for the
whole project.
