This document discusses context clues, which are hints an author provides to help readers figure out the meaning of unknown words. It identifies 6 types of context clues: 1) synonyms, which use similar words to restate the meaning, 2) definitions, which directly define the word, 3) antonyms, which provide the opposite meaning, 4) explanations, which give examples, 5) cause and effect relationships, and 6) comparisons, which note similarities. Examples are given for each type of context clue to illustrate how they can help determine a word's meaning.
