Made up of gray fats and proteins, the human brain doesn’t look like much. Nevertheless, it is one of the most complex and mysterious organs known, giving life to art, sport, personality, and morals. With over 86 billion neurons, 2.5 million gigabytes of storage, and over 50,000 thoughts per day, the human brain is truly astounding. Here are some human brain facts that will make you think twice.Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior. Abnormal psychology is often hard to define because the term "normal" can vary so widely between groups, cultures, races, and sexes. What one group considers odd may seem perfectly fine to another. For example, it may seem perfectly acceptable for a teenager to jump up and begin dancing wildly in the middle of a room. However, if an elderly person did the same, others might find the behavior unacceptable, or abnormal. Therefore, a better definition of abnormal psychology may be that it seeks to better understand the differences between members of a group who act "differently" from other members of that same demographic.
The study of abnormal behavior has helped us, as a society, to amend many outdated ideas we once had regarding what is and isn't "normal." Examples include pregnancy out of wedlock, homosexuality, women who vote and hold jobs outside the home, and men who dress in women's clothing. At certain times throughout history, these behaviors were all considered strange or unusual. Through research and understanding, however, they're perfectly acceptable today, and the science of abnormal psychology is at least partly responsible.

VII. Agamemnon met a classmate in the SRJC cafeteria a few days before his Psychology 1A final. “How are you?”
said his classmate. “I am exhausted. I had a horrible dream last night. I was getting ready to study for my final and
couldn’t find my notes or my book. After looking for what was a long time in the dream, I finally found my notes and
text, but they were in a language I didn’t understand. Somebody yelled, “You’re late for the exam!” and I woke up.
1. What is the manifest content of the dream? What might be the latent content of this dream according to Freud?
What might Perls, the Gestalt Psychologist, say about this nightmare? During which part of the night – first
half or second half – was Agamemnon’s dream most likely to occur? During which stage of sleep?
VII and IX. Beecher, also an SRJC student, is sometimes enjoyable to be with – full of confidence and energy and
able to study for hours and hours. At other times, she is depressed and anxious and sleeps all day. For days at a time,
Beecher is not at home and skips classes. She also has money problems, sometimes “borrowing” from friends without

VIII and IX. Chaucer became a California Highway Patrolman after his return from two combat tours in
Afghanistan as a US Marine. In the past day, he was witness to a horrific accident in which there was a fire and
fatalities. Usually, he would look forward to going home at the end of the day to his wife and children. He would talk
to his wife about the day’s events while they listened to some calm and relaxing music. This night, however, his
family is on an overnight outing and he will be going home alone.
4. What categories of stressors, from the list of stressors in your notes and in the text, is Chaucer
experiencing? Refer to the story above.
5. Chaucer has trouble falling asleep that night. When he does fall asleep, in his dreams, he relives an experience
that occurred a year ago in Afghanistan when a bomb exploded less than 50 yards from his quarters. He
awakes with a start and calls to his assistants to help with the wounded. What “disorder” is Chaucer
experiencing? What are the risk factors for this condition?
VII and IX. Diana, a Warriors fan, can hardly wait for the basketball playoffs to be over so that she can know who
the winner is. In general, she finds herself thinking over and over again about questions to which she has no answer.
Diana tends to finish other people’s sentences for them if they pause for a moment in the middle. When she takes an
exam, or writes a paper, she goes over the material 20 or 30 times to make sure she has completed everything and that

An avian flu pandemic has killed off the human population except for 13 survivors who take shelter in an underground bunker. However, the bunker can only support 4 people long-term. The group must decide which 4 individuals will stay based on their skills and which 8 will be sacrificed so that resources last 2 years until the virus passes. They consider the occupations and abilities of each person to argue for who has the best chance of ensuring survival.
This document describes a case study involving a 25-year-old college student who experienced an episode of extreme fear when the electricity went out in her apartment alone three months ago. Since then, she has been having panic attacks, especially in dark places, with symptoms of sweating, increased heart rate, and feelings of danger and dying. Her provisional diagnosis is panic disorder based on the recurrent panic attacks. Differential diagnoses considered include anxiety disorder and nyctophobia. Recommended investigations and treatments include routine tests, non-biological assessments, psychoeducation, CBT, breathing exercises, and short-term anxiolytic medication to manage severe anxiety episodes.
The document provides an overview of Week 6 of an English course, including the following key points:
1) The week's activities will include listening to music, reviewing grammar, talking about illnesses, telling jokes, and studying commercials.
2) A grammar exercise focuses on the present perfect simple and present perfect continuous tenses.
3) A vocabulary review covers common medical terms like temperature, cough, and blister from the previous week.

1. Psychology is defined as the scientific study of behavior. (the psychology majors handbook). Though I feel most TV shows and or movies have some form of a psychological based plot, because its so broad. However I want to focus on a TV show called "The Good Doctor". This is a series about a doctor who is on the Autism spectrum. Autism refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication... Autism is a spectrum disorder each person with autism has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. (what is autism). this show was my top pick because, taking a look more into psychology as stated in the text topics of psychology study includes relationships, the brain and the chemicals that influence it, visual and auditory perception, human development, the causes of normative and atypical behavior, and much more. In the show they focus on the main character who has autism but is so smart and they show his strengths analyze the body and research in a different, more in depth way that the typical doctors do. They show how he is socially awkward and how the typical doctors may accept him and how some don't because they feel he has a disorder and doesn't belong in the medical field. the show touches base on his difficulty fitting into the culture but also show how he fits in in his own unique way.
2. The TV show that comes to mind when I think of a TV show in which psychology played an important role is a show, I am currently watching called Blindspot. Psychology is a big factor in this show because a woman had her memory erased and had herself dropped in the middle of Times Square. When found, she had tattoos all over her body, which helped the FBI save many lives. It turns out that she was a part of a terrorist organization that wanted to bring the country down. With all of that being said, when she first got to the FBI, they had a psychologist talk to her to try and help her understand her feelings and help her engage with the man she had grown to like. In the end, the psychologist was also a part of the terrorist organization and was manipulating the woman during her sessions to make her think she liked the man so she could get close to him because they needed him to be a part of their plan to bring down the country. Psychology was also a big factor because growing closer to the man she liked, who was the assistant director of the FBI and a good person, he helped her be a better person. With all of her memory gone he also made her think she was his best friend who had gone missing when he was a child, when if fact she was not this little girl at all.
3. When I think of psychology in relation to a tv show or movie, I think of a Netflix series that I recently watched titled "YOU." I feel that psychology definitely played a major part in the way the main character Joe interacted with everyone that he encountered or had some type of relationship with. The mai ...

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO MENTAL HEALTH.pptxMartin Mambu
Mental health affects how people think, feel and behave. It is on a spectrum from good to poor. Good mental health allows people to think positively and cope with stress, while poor mental health makes daily tasks difficult. Mental health depends on overall physical health, having a stable home and purpose, and strong community relationships. Common mental illnesses include anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse disorders. Genetics, life experiences, brain chemistry, trauma and medical conditions can all contribute to mental illness. Maintaining overall wellness through stress reduction, learning, nature, social connection and sleep can help prevent problems.
The document provides an overview of a commander's call presentation on developing purpose-driven Airmen as a suicide prevention model. It discusses finding purpose and hope through one's spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences. Examples are given of individuals like Pat Tillman and Ashley Smith who found purpose and overcame difficulties by placing their faith in something greater than themselves. The presentation aims to equip leaders to help Airmen discover their purpose and potential.
I designed this presentation to raise awareness on anxiety and depression, including other mental health issues.
We are facing a global crisis on mental health and people aren't talking about it nearly enough. Employers also aren't aware of the many stresses that modern life places on some of their staff.
They need to take mental health more seriously in the workplace.
This presentation is dedicated to JewWario, Justin Carmical who committed suicide only recently. He was suffering from depression.

Examples include pregnancy out of wedlock, homosexuality, women who vote and hold jobs outside the home, and men who dress in women's clothing.

She also has money problems, sometimes “borrowing” from friends without
2. Beecher might have a drug problem or a psychological disorder. Which psychological disorder? Any ideas
about which drug or drugs?
3. Which of Beecher’s behaviors might indicate addiction? If Beecher were your friend, what might you say to
VIII and IX.

The document discusses factors that affect students' interest in reading. It outlines several types of reading materials that can benefit children, including picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, magazines, and audiobooks. The document also discusses how reading can fulfill various needs in children such as the need for materials, emotional support, intellectual security, belonging, love, achievement, recreation, spiritual security, and aesthetic satisfaction. It provides examples of how each need can be met through reading and book topics.
4) Sample questions are provided to ask about health, illnesses, medical history and lifestyle habits.

THE SPECIAL SENCES- Unlocking the Wonders of the Special Senses: Sight, Sound...Nursing Mastery
Title: Unlocking the Wonders of the Special Senses: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Balance
Introduction:
Welcome to our captivating SlideShare presentation on the Special Senses, where we delve into the extraordinary capabilities that allow us to perceive and interact with the world around us. Join us on a sensory journey as we explore the intricate structures and functions of sight, sound, smell, taste, and balance.
The special senses are our primary means of experiencing and interpreting the environment, each sense providing unique and vital information that shapes our perceptions and responses. These senses are facilitated by highly specialized organs and complex neural pathways, enabling us to see a vibrant sunset, hear a symphony, savor a delicious meal, detect a fragrant flower, and maintain our equilibrium.
In this presentation, we will:
Visual System (Sight): Dive into the anatomy and physiology of the eye, exploring how light is converted into electrical signals and processed by the brain to create the images we see. Understand common vision disorders and the mechanisms behind corrective measures like glasses and contact lenses.
Auditory System (Hearing): Examine the structures of the ear and the process of sound wave transduction, from the outer ear to the cochlea and auditory nerve. Learn about hearing loss, auditory processing, and the advances in hearing aid technology.
Olfactory System (Smell): Discover the olfactory receptors and pathways that enable the detection of thousands of different odors. Explore the connection between smell and memory and the impact of olfactory disorders on quality of life.
Gustatory System (Taste): Uncover the taste buds and the five basic tastes – sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami. Delve into the interplay between taste and smell and the factors influencing our food preferences and eating habits.
Vestibular System (Balance): Investigate the inner ear structures responsible for balance and spatial orientation. Understand how the vestibular system helps maintain posture and coordination, and explore common vestibular disorders and their effects.
Through engaging visuals, interactive diagrams, and insightful explanations, we aim to illuminate the complexities of the special senses and their profound impact on our daily lives. Whether you're a student, educator, or simply curious about how we perceive the world, this presentation will provide valuable insights into the remarkable capabilities of the human sensory system.
Join us as we unlock the wonders of the special senses and gain a deeper appreciation for the intricate mechanisms that allow us to experience the richness of our environment.

we talk about past actions:
Because of night terrors, we would just stay up.
She would call my brother after work on
Fridays.
I used to drink coffee in the morning.
We used to work together a long time ago.
31. Would & Used to
However, only ‘used to’ is possible when we talk
about past states.
I used to live in downtown.
We used to be friends in high school.
She used to be good with animals.
34. Emotional Support a Service Dog provides
Physical assistance is the most obvious benefit
when thinking about service dogs: people who are
visually impaired or have other physical limitations
can benefit greatly from the assistance service
dogs offer. However, emotional support is also
something service dogs are capable of providing.
Some of the examples include:
-companionship; a service dog keeps you
company in many situations and prevents you from
feeling isolated. This sense of security and care
will alleviate some of the burden of a disability or a
health condition.
35. -a greater feeling of independence; you can rely on
your dog for some daily tasks like carrying things
or opening doors. Using the assistance of a
service dog instead of that of humans ensures a
sense of freedom and independence.
Service dogs are a source of joy and help with the
symptoms of anxiety and loneliness in people.
They are good friends, and it is hard to
overestimate the benefits that people with mental
health issues can get from owning a service dog.
