A daybook is used in a Language Arts class to record class notes, activities, personal thoughts and writing progress throughout the year. It can take various forms like a spiral notebook or composition book. Students are encouraged to decorate their daybook to reflect their personality. Assignments completed in the daybook will be graded. The daybook will be used regularly in class and is an important part of tracking a student's work and development as a writer. Students should number the pages, leave the first few pages blank for a table of contents, and bring supplies like glue, markers and decorations to personalize their daybook.

2. What is a Daybook? A daybook teaches you a to be creative, independent thinker and writer. Daybooks are used for class notes as well as for other activities where you will be asked to express your own ideas and process the information we learned in class.

10. Will the daybook be graded? YES!!! Assignments will be graded as we complete them. You and the teacher will look through your daybook to discuss your class progress. FYI- Any personal writing you do not want anyone to read will be kept in a personal file.

13. How do I get started with my daybook? Skip the first four pages in your notebook (the front and back count as TWO pages). Number every page with a marker in the notebook. I know, this will take a minute. Think SILENTLY and think of anything you may decorate your notebook with. Of course, it must be appropriate for my 97 year old Grandmother to view.

14. The First Fifteen Turn back to the first page of the notebook. Label this page “Table of Contents.” The first four pages will be the table of contents. Begin to number down the first page. Ms. Dicker will provide the rest of the instructions.
