Last November, Ergo hosted an event for IT professionals who were anxious to hear about the future of business technology. The event entitled Year Zero offered insights into “new ways of working”.
We call it Year Zero because we believe it’s the start of a new era in business technology. The availability of new technologies, the consumerisation of IT, and the economic downturn, have all fundamentally changed the way we go about IT. Cost and complexity are no longer acceptable. Organisations must now undertake a journey to turn IT into a platform for business innovation.

Each CIO post description includes something resembling the 12 roles and requirements. This list outlines what CEOs are currently looking for in their CIOs. However, it's not necessarily what CEOs really need from their CIOs.
In the current data-driven economy, in which analytics and software have become the main factors in business, executives must reconsider the hierarchies and silos that fueled the business in the past. There is no longer a need for "technology people" who work independently of "data people" who work in isolation from "sales" people or from "finance." Instead, they need to manage organizations where every employee is embraced by technology and data as integral to their work.
They also require CIOs to guide them there. In this regard, redefining the business to accommodate the new data economy is the primary task executives have to today's top-of-the-line CIOs.
Here's how:
from Software and the Business to Software is the Business
When Cargill began to put IoT sensors in shrimp ponds, Chief Information Officer Justin Kershaw realised that the $130 billion agriculture business was evolving into a digital enterprise. To determine the point at which IT should stop and where IoT technology engineering needs to begin, Kershaw did not call CIOs from other food and agricultural companies to discuss their experiences. He contacted the CIOs of SAP and Microsoft as well as various other companies that use software. He was thinking about reimagining the world's biggest agricultural business as a software business.
Modern Delivery
Moving software from a supporting role to leading position is the why is the issue, then modern delivery is the way to do it. Modern delivery involves an approach to product (rather as project) management rapid development and small teams of cross-functional experts which co-create, as well as continuous integration and delivery, all with a brand new financial model that supports "value" not "projects."
However, don't try to build an modern SDLC. Instead, build a software development cycle (SDLC) on an industrial infrastructure. The architecture that is intended for this data-driven economy relies on platforms and cloud-connected, makes use of APIs that connect with an ecosystem outside and splits monolithic applications into microservices.
"A platforms model encompasses more than just an architecture. It's a mental model that allows us to consider how vertically we can provide the vet, farmer, or pet's owners, then expand to think horizontally about ways to make solutions adaptable, scalable and secure" claims Wafaa Mamilli Chief Information Officer and Digital Officer of global animal health firm Zoetis. "Platforms can be flexible, intelligent and run algorithms that let us rapidly change. If we did not adopt the platform model and approach, we'd be funding these massive programs."

Digital transformation is the cultural, organizational, and operational change of an establishment, industry, or
ecosystem through a smart integration of digital technologies, processes and competencies across all levels
and functions in a staged and strategic way.
DevOps is an exciting new management framework that combines software development and IT operations. It aims to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery with high software quality. DevOps is rapidly popularity across the IT industry due to the ease with which it can be used in combination with Agile software development.

Pushing BI Publisher to the limitsRevenue Recognition
FASB/IASB revenue recognition regulations have changed and public organizations
should apply the new revenue standard to annual reporting periods beginning after
December 15, 2017. Nonpublic organizations should apply the new revenue standard to
annual reporting periods beginning after December 15, 2018.
These new standards state that an organization cannot recognize revenue until a
performance obligation to the customer is satisfied. These standards affect pretty much
every type of business. All organizations must now have terms that are agreed upon by
every customer as far as what constitutes the completion of a performance obligation.
These standards have been created to ensure companies are accurately reporting
revenue.

Digital Transformation- Why and howCheck Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself - Conducting a Basic Security Audit
For most organizations, the goal of digital transformation is to break down barriers
between people, businesses, and processes, to accelerate the creation of new products
and services, while finding more efficient ways of doing business. These benefits present
a significant incentive for rethinking how to run your business – and that is exactly what
is happening. Digital transformation enables companies to reduce friction throughout the
business. Friction is anything that causes processes to slow, pause, veer off track or stall
outright. Increasing efficiency through reducing friction releases resources needed to
increase revenue and create competitive advantage.
Our experts will walk through the first steps of a Digital Transformation and lay out a
simple framework that you can apply to design your businesses Digital Transformation
roadmap. Tools to assist with this include Internet of Things (IoT), Mobility, User

Digital Transformation is more than just plugging in Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and
collecting data. It is about solving business problems and leaping ahead. It is about
disruptive technology, not automating the status quo. It is about making quantum leaps
through a strategy to transform your business. JD Edwards and Oracle offer tools to assist
the process of digital transformation through making your business and workforce
connected, in real-time, and able to react with agility to opportunities and threats.
Examples of digital transformation abound in Agribusiness, including spatial technology,
mobile devices in the field, enhancements in food safety, and IoT to dramatically
enhance food processing throughput. This requires top management leadership, and a
CIO who is working in concert with both top leadership and line of business initiatives.
There are clear keys to success for digital transformation, and a checklist to know if it’s
