This 3-4 day trip to the Laguna Mountains will involve hiking, mountain biking, yoga, and a ropes course. Students will be accompanied by student guides and a program coordinator. The schedule includes checking in on day 1, hiking and camping the next two days, and completing a ropes course on the last day before returning to campus. Meals will be provided and participants will sleep in tents. Weather may include temperatures from 60-80 degrees and possible rain, so participants should pack accordingly. No experience is required but hikes will be 4-8 miles. Safety protocols will be followed and risks like dehydration, injury, and animal encounters should be prepared for.

8. itinerary
Day 1: Tuesday, August 25th
Check-in at 9 AM, move into your new room and meet back at OA by
12:30 PM. Get to know your guides and fellow adventurers and head
out to the mountains.
Days 2 & 3:
Set off on small group hikes, get to know your peers and hang out in
camp.
Day 4: Friday, August 28th
—Pack up camp. Go to a local ropes course and work with fellow
adventurers to complete challenges. Return to campus by 5pm to
reunite with family or hang out with new friends before Orientation the
next day.

9. what about food?
Dinner Tuesday night through lunch on Friday will be provided
Food will be delicious, it is a source of pride for OA!
Don’t forget to let us know if you have any dietary restrictions

10. Where will i sleep?
We will provide 3 or 4 person tents for you to sleep in.
There are pit toilets (permanent porta potties) in the campground as
well as a water spigot, but no toilets on our hiking trails
There are no showers!

11. what about weather?
During August, the high is in the low 80s and the low is around 60
degrees
We are hoping for perfect conditions, but must prepare for the worst
—Please be sure to pack for a variety of cold and warm weather
conditions. Layers will allow you to adjust throughout the day as
conditions change. There is a good possibility it will rain while we
are there so be sure to pack a rain jacket and pants.

13. what skills/experience do i need?
—No previous experience is
necessary. We will
make the most of our
time and some days will
be more challenging
than others.
—Be prepared to hike
between 4 and 8 miles
during our day hikes.

14. leave no trace
—On every Outdoor Adventure trip, we abide by the principles of Leave
No Trace. They are an integral part of our program and we ask each
participant to do their best to follow the seven principles:

15. what about drugs & alcohol?
—Illegal drugs and alcohol are never allowed on trips, nor being under
the influence.
—Prescription medications are required. Please make sure you bring
them in the original bottle with the physicians name on it.

16. risks & hazards
—Although the Laguna Mountains are not far from the nearest hospital, we will be hiking in remote
areas on our day hikes and need to plan accordingly.
—There are a variety of risks and hazards associated with outdoor recreation. Specifically, slips, falls, heat
exhaustion, heat stroke, sun burn, dehydration, animal encounters, and blisters are some of the risks to
prepare for.
—Weather is something we will be constantly evaluating and adjusting for. Trip members must make conscious
effort to stay safe.
