This document provides a survival guide for attendees of the Startup Weekend West Michigan event being held from July 28-30 at Camp Blusky in Ludington, MI. It outlines the schedule for the weekend, including meals, activities, presentations and the pitch competition. 3:00 pm Early Bird Optional

9:00 am Registration Arrive at the venue and get checked in.
12:00 pm Lunch and Mingle Meet at the dock! We will provide you
at Barnharts! transportation to the infamous
Barnharts for a network session
over pizza.
3:00 pm Last Call If you don’t make this boat you will
have to swim back from Barnharts
4:30 pm Final Registration Registration will be closed at this time.
5:00 pm Dinner & Networking Eat food, share ideas, practice pitches,
get to know fellow participants
6:00 pm Opening Remarks/ Time to hear from the Camp
Icebreaker and meet your future co-founder.
7:00 pm Pitches Start Optionally line up to give your pitch
9:00 pm Voting Attendees vote for the top pitches
9:15 pm Form Teams Teams start forming and discussing
ideas
10:00 pm Begin Work Start to formalize teams and take an
inventory of skills. Be honest, and
direct about what resources and skills
are needed for the weekend. You may
stay and work as late as the venue

space for the weekend
10:00 am Lo-Fi Mockups/BMC During this 30 minute session we will
/Validation focus on prototyping, the business
model canvas and user adoption.
11:00 am Lakeside Activities Enjoy the half mile of lakefront
property.

1:00 pm Status Updates After-lunch check-in, status reports,

What to Expect
Nature–it makes us different.
Nature is a beautiful, semi-dangerous place. The beauty thing is easy
to spot, like the sunlight pouring through tree branches overhead
and the soft swooshing of the waves hitting the shore. It’s peaceful.
Tranquil, even.
Camp BluSky is full of those little moments that make you sigh and
go “Gosh, I love the woods.” But, don’t be fooled. As neat as nature is,
it’s not hunky-dory all the time. To all of those reading this who aren’t
so gung-ho about spending quality time in the great outdoors, we’ve
got a couple of things you should note:
1. Poison Ivy exists here. Google it, then avoid it.
2. Unless you like snuggling with raccoons at night, keep
food out of your tent.
3. The nearest hospital is 45 minutes away—don’t be stupid.*
We’re telling you this because we care. Be respectful of nature and
you’ll be just fine.
*Note: a nurse will be on site all weekend long.
Shenanigans
Although Startup Weekend is a fast-paced, adrenaline infused
workweek on roids, it can’t be all work and no play. When you’re
ready for a mental break you can go full bore outdoorsman with
recreational activities like canoeing, hiking, or kayaking. If you’d
rather veg-out, listen to live music in the ______ or catch a movie
on the lakeside. We’ll have a big screen set up showing Friday the
13th, Blair Witch Project, Dirty Dancing, and Wet Hot American
Summer over the course of the weekend.
Keynote Speakers
When the sun goes down, teams will gather around the bonfire to
hear the inspirational stories of keynote speakers like Dale Pollak,
the founder of vAuto. Who knows, maybe we’ll even swap a ghost
story or two.

Work Hard, Get Money
When you’ve finished your weekend’s hard work, you and your team
will have the opportunity to pitch your idea for all its worth. In just
five minutes, a panel of judges will decide if your idea has legs or if
it should be sunk to the bottom of Hamlin Lake. (But no pressure).
Depending on the feedback you receive, your new business could
have the opportunity to compete for the Momentum Business
Plan Competition, which awards startups that decide to settle in
Mason County a whopping $50,000. In addition to the chance to
compete, expect access to a slew of resources courtesy of Google for
Entrepreneurs. Didn’t expect that caliber of awesome from a cabin
in the woods, did ya?
Camp Code
We won’t ask you to take a blood oath or swear on your mama’s life,
but we do ask that you take this reminder seriously.
You have 54 hours to make an idea come to life. With such little time,
you are expected to come to Camp BluSky ready to work hard. Now
that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy yourself, but we want you
to be smart about it. That means during downtime, you respect the
camp, its facilities, and your peers who are sharing the space over the
weekend. Don’t be the guy who’s jamming to “Sweet Home Alabama”
at 2AM with a Summer Shandy in hand. Respecting those around you
also means letting everyone’s voice be heard, and letting every idea
have a chance to see the light of day—that is, until a judge wields
the final blow. This is as much a warning for our well-being as it is for
yours, because let’s be honest: nobody wants to be “that guy.”
Making Connections
Even though you’ll be knee-deep in startup mode, you’ll have
the opportunity to meet an eclectic mix of students and industry
professionals. Take advantage of having them trapped in the woods
with you: introduce yourself, trade business cards, and find them
on LinkedIn when you head back to civilization. #Networking.

Things to Know
Camp to West Shore Community College
For all of your 3D printing and computer lab needs, Westshore
Community college has graciously opened their doors. The campus
will only be accessible by using your own vehicle, so don’t expect to
bum a ride from us. Fun fact, the campus is also our weekend event
space should inclement weather rear its nasty head.
