The National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT) was launched in 2009 as a centrally sponsored scheme to leverage ICT in teaching and learning processes. The goals were to enhance access, equity, and quality of education as well as increase the gross enrollment ratio in higher education. Key aspects included providing connectivity and devices to institutions, generating educational content, and spreading digital literacy among teachers.

4.  The National Mission on Education(NME) through
Information and Communication (ICT) has been
envisaged as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to
leverage the potential of ICT, in teaching and learning
process for the benefit of all the learners in Higher
Education Institutions in any time any where mode. This
was expected to be a major intervention in enhancing
the gross environment ratio (GER) in higher education
by 5% point during the five year plan period.

5.  The mission approved by the Government of India on
the 2nd January 2009.
 NME –ICT launched on 3rd february,2009.
 It is a centrally sponsored scheme which entails 75%
contribution from the centre and 25% from
state/Institutions for connectivity. In the case of NER, the
ratio 90:10.
 100% contribution from center for content generation.
 50% contribution from center for devices.

6.  The government of India has launched its National
Mission on Education, through information and
communication technology (NME-ICT) in 2009 to
provide opportunity for all the teachers & experts in
the country to pool their collective wisdom for the
benefit of every Indian learners .
 The three cardinal principles of education policy
under this mission where access, equity & quality.
 Providing e-books & e-journals, utilizing the
repository of the content generated so far & the
automation of evaluation process.

7.  Spread digital literacy for teacher empowerment &
encouraging teacher to be able on the net to guide the
learners.
 providing e-learning support to every higher education
institution for technology associated learning.
 Development of interfaces for other cognitive faculties
which would also help physically challenged learners.
 Setting up virtual labs, lab centers & finishing schools for
quality enhancement.

8.  Making broadband affordable for every learner.
 Standardization & quality assurance of e-content.
 Deriving lessons from our ancient knowledge base.
 Guidance to learners through various
Psychological/personality tests.
 Single window for primary to post-graduation
