This document summarizes a new Kansas bill that expands the definition of health care providers to include physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, assisted living facilities, nursing facilities, and residential health care facilities. The bill requires these newly defined providers to maintain minimum medical malpractice insurance of $200,000 per claim and $600,000 annual aggregate and select additional coverage options through the Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund. Providers must comply with these new insurance requirements by January 1, 2015.
