This paper presents an FPGA-based algorithm for moving object detection from video for traffic surveillance. The algorithm uses background subtraction, edge detection and shadow detection techniques. Background subtraction involves selective and non-selective updating to improve sensitivity. Edge detection helps find object boundaries while shadow detection removes falsely detected pixels from shadows. The algorithm is implemented using VHDL on a Spartan-6 FPGA board. Experimental results show the algorithm can accurately detect moving vehicles in different lighting conditions with low power consumption, making it suitable for traffic monitoring applications.

3 d mrf based video tracking in the compressed domaineSAT Journals
Abstract Object tracking is an interesting and needed procedure for many real time applications. But it is a challenging one, because of the presence of challenging sequences with abrupt motion, drastic illumination change, large pose variation, occlusion, cluttered background and also the camera shake. This paper presents a novel method of object tracking by using the algorithms spatio-temporal Markov random field (STMRF) and online discriminative feature selection (ODFS), which overcome the above mentioned problems and provide a better tracking process. This method is also capable of tracking multiple objects in video sequence even in the presence of an object interactions and occlusions that achieves better results with real time performance. Keywords: Video object tracking, spatio-temporal Markov random field (ST-MRF), online discriminative feature selection (ODFS).
A new block cipher for image encryption based on multi chaotic systemsTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
In this paper, a new algorithm for image encryption is proposed based on three chaotic systems which are Chen system, logistic map and two-dimensional (2D) Arnold cat map. First, a permutation scheme is applied to the image, and then shuffled image is partitioned into blocks of pixels. For each block, Chen system is employed for confusion and then logistic map is employed for generating subsititution-box (S-box) to substitute image blocks. The S-box is dynamic, where it is shuffled for each image block using permutation operation. Then, 2D Arnold cat map is used for providing diffusion, after that XORing the result using Chen system to obtain the encrypted image. The high security of proposed algorithm is experimented using histograms, unified average changing intensity (UACI), number of pixels change rate (NPCR), entropy, correlation and keyspace analyses.

SAR Image Classification by Multilayer Back Propagation Neural NetworkIJMTST Journal
A novel descriptive feature extraction method of Discrete Fourier transform and neural network classifier for classification of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images is proposed. The classification process has the following stages (1) Image Segmentation using statistical Region Merging (SRM) (2) Polar transform and Feature extraction using Discrete Fourier Transform (3) Neural Network classification using back propagation. This is generally the first step in image analysis. Segmentation subdivides an image into its constituent parts or objects. The level to which this subdivision is carried depends on the problem being solved. The image segmentation in this study is performed using Statistical Region Merging proposed Richard Nock and Frank Nielsen. The key idea of the Statistical Region Merging model is to formulate image segmentation as an inference problem. Here the merging procedure is based on the theorem. Feature vectors as the input for the neural network. Polar transform is applied to segmented SAR image. The rotation problem under the Cartesian coordinates becomes the translation problem under the polar coordinates.
Image classification is perhaps the most important part of digital image analysis. In this paper, we compare the most widely used model CNN Convolutional Neural Network , and MLP Multilayer Perceptron . We aim to show how both models differ and how both models approach towards the final goal, which is image classification. Foreground algorithms for detection and extraction of an object in multimedia...IJECEIAES
Background Subtraction of a foreground object in multimedia is one of the major preprocessing steps involved in many vision-based applications. The main logic for detecting moving objects from the video is difference of the current frame and a reference frame which is called “background image” and this method is known as frame differencing method. Background Subtraction is widely used for real-time motion gesture recognition to be used in gesture enabled items like vehicles or automated gadgets. It is also used in content-based video coding, traffic monitoring, object tracking, digital forensics and human-computer interaction. Now-a-days due to advent in technology it is noticed that most of the conferences, meetings and interviews are done on video calls. It’s quite obvious that a conference room like atmosphere is not always readily available at any point of time. To eradicate this issue, an efficient algorithm for foreground extraction in a multimedia on video calls is very much needed. This paper is not to just build Background Subtraction application for Mobile Platform but to optimize the existing OpenCV algorithm to work on limited resources on mobile platform without reducing the performance. In this paper, comparison of various foreground detection, extraction and feature detection algorithms are done on mobile platform using OpenCV. The set of experiments were conducted to appraise the efficiency of each algorithm over the other. The overall performances of these algorithms were compared on the basis of execution time, resolution and resources required.
Image Segmentation Using Two Weighted Variable Fuzzy K MeansEditor IJCATR
Image segmentation is the first step in image analysis and pattern recognition. Image segmentation is the process of dividing an image into different regions such that each region is homogeneous. The accurate and effective algorithm for segmenting image is very useful in many fields, especially in medical image. This paper presents a new approach for image segmentation by applying k-means algorithm with two level variable weighting. In image segmentation, clustering algorithms are very popular as they are intuitive and are also easy to implement. The K-means and Fuzzy k-means clustering algorithm is one of the most widely used algorithms in the literature, and many authors successfully compare their new proposal with the results achieved by the k-Means and Fuzzy k-Means. This paper proposes a new clustering algorithm called TW-fuzzy k-means, an automated two-level variable weighting clustering algorithm for segmenting object. In this algorithm, a variable weight is also assigned to each variable on the current partition of data. This could be applied on general images and/or specific images (i.e., medical and microscopic images). The proposed TW-Fuzzy k-means algorithm in terms of providing a better segmentation performance for various type of images. Based on the results obtained, the proposed algorithm gives better visual quality as compared to several other clustering methods.

An enhanced fireworks algorithm to generate prime key for multiple users in f...journalBEEI
This work presents a new method to enhance the performance of fireworks algorithm to generate a prime key for multiple users. A threshold technique in image segmentation is used as one of the major steps. It is used processing the digital image. Some useful algorithms and methods for dividing and sharing an image, including measuring, recognizing, and recognizing, are common. In this research, we proposed a hybrid technique of fireworks and camel herd algorithms (HFCA), where Fireworks are based on 3-dimension (3D) logistic chaotic maps. Both, the Otsu method and the convolution technique are used in the pre-processing image for further analysis. The Otsu is employed to segment the image and find the threshold for each image, and convolution is used to extract the features of the used images. The sample of the images consists of two images of fingerprints taken from the Biometric System Lab (University of Bologna). The performance of the anticipated method is evaluated by using FVC2004 dataset. The results of the work enhanced algorithm, so quick response code (QRcode) is used to generate a stream key by using random text or number, which is a class of symmetric-key algorithm that operates on individual bits or bytes.
Neural Network based Vehicle Classification for Intelligent Traffic Controlijseajournal
Nowadays, number of vehicles has been increased and traditional systems of traffic controlling couldn’t be
able to meet the needs that cause to emergence of Intelligent Traffic Controlling Systems. They improve
controlling and urban management and increase confidence index in roads and highways. The goal of this
article is vehicles classification base on neural networks. In this research, it has been used a immovable
camera which is located in nearly close height of the road surface to detect and classify the vehicles. The
algorithm that used is included two general phases; at first, we are obtaining mobile vehicles in the traffic
situations by using some techniques included image processing and remove background of the images and
performing edge detection and morphology operations. In the second phase, vehicles near the camera are
selected and the specific features are processed and extracted. These features apply to the neural networks
as a vector so the outputs determine type of vehicle. This presented model is able to classify the vehicles in
three classes; heavy vehicles, light vehicles and motorcycles. Results demonstrate accuracy of the
algorithm and its highly functional level.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Fpga Based Moving Object Detection Algorithm Implementation
for Traffic Surveillance

ABSTRACT
The main objective of this paper is detection of vehicles by background subtraction technique and the automatic
surveillance of traffic based on the number of vehicles. The algorithm takes into consideration three main
techniques namely Background Subtraction, Edge Detection and Shadow Detection. Background Subtraction
block is sub-divided into Selective and Non-selective parts to improve the sensitivity and give accurate
background. Edge detection helps to detect the exact boundaries of moving vehicles. This is followed by the
shadow detection block that removes the falsely detected pixels that are generated due to shadow of the vehicle.
By analyzing the output of the blocks discussed above, the final mask is generated. The mask along with the
input frame is processed to give the final output frame where the detected object is highlighted. Furthermore,
parameters such as number of blobs per frame (vehicles) and the area of blobs can be used for traffic
surveillance. The algorithm of object detection is implemented on FPGA using VHDL. Spartan-6 Development
Board is used for implementation of the same.

unusual situations, such as traffic congestion or
accidents. This paper describes an approach which
detects moving and recently stopped vehicles using
the novel technique of background subtraction [1]
[2]. The algorithm is programmed, simulated and
tested in VHDL and then implemented on the FPGA
SPARTAN6 Board. The result of the algorithm is a
binary mask image of blobs representing the detected
objects. The background is updated slowly with
Selective and Non-selective algorithm. The use of
two updating blocks improves the sensitivity of the
algorithm. Also shadow detection block maintains
consistency of the algorithm by eliminating the error
introduced by shadow of an object.
1.1. About FPGA
Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)
represent reconfigurable computing technology,
which is in some ways ideally suited for video
processing. Reconfigurable computers are processors
which can be programmed with a design, and then
reprogrammed (or reconfigured) with virtually
limitless designs as the designers need change. All of
the logic in an FPGA can be rewired, or reconfigured,
with a different design as often as the designer likes.
This type of architecture allows a large variety of
logic designs dependent on the processors resources),
which can be interchanged for a new design as soon
as the device can be reprogrammed. Engineers use a
hardware language such as VHDL, which allows for
a design methodology similar to software design.

This software view of hardware design allows for a
lower overall support cost and design abstraction.
1.2. About VHDL
VHDL is an acronym for Very High Speed
Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language. It
is a hardware description language that can be used to
model a digital system at many levels of abstraction,
ranging from the algorithmic level to the gate level.
The VHDL language has constructs that enable you
to express the concurrent or sequential behaviour of a
digital system. It also allows you to model the system
as an interconnection of components. Test waveforms
can also be generated using the same constructs.
1.3. Algorithm
Each pixel is modified independently using
the statistical procedure of Gaussian distribution [3]
and the pixels of the moving object is detected using
the inequality mentioned below:
Where µt and σt are mean and standard deviation
matrices of Gaussian distribution for image pixel
intensities and constant k typically has a value
between 2 and 3.The updating background image is
calculated as shown by the following equations:

Where It-1 and µt-1 is the intensity of previous image
frame and previous frame and α is learning ratio.

NON-SELECTIVE BLOCK
The task of detecting the moving and
recently stopped vehicles is done by the non-selective
block. The equation for non-selective background
updating [2] [4] is given by:
Where It (x y) is the brightness of a pixel situated at
coordinates (x,y) of input monochrome image at the
time t; µN, t (x,y) the brightness of a pixel situated at
coordinates (x,y) of background image, updated nonselectively; δN1 = 2-5 = 0.03125 is a small constant
evaluated experimentally. It is assumed that the
brightness of the input image is in the range: It(x,y)
<0,255>.
The updating of
from (1) for non which is
selective model [2] is given by (5):
where
is experimentally evaluated to be
0.00390625 (i.e. 2-8). The values of µN,t and
are used to calculate the pixel values of mN
from equation (1).
(7)
where mVTS,t (x, y) = mV,t (x, y) ˅ mET,t (x, y)
mES,t
(x, y) ; S,t (x, y) – the brightness of a pixel at
coordinates (x, y) of background image updated
using selectivity; mV (x, y) – the element of the
detected vehicle mask image of value equal to 0 or 1,
where 1 denotes the detected moving objects. The
values of constants S1 and S2 were established
experimentally: S1 = 0.25, S2 = 0.03125 for It

. From (1), the image frame ms comes
out as shown below:

Binary Mask Combination Block
The output from both selective and nonselective block is combined into a single binary
mask. A simple AND operation is not enough to
detect all the pixels. Hence a special combination of
AND and OR operations [5] are used to improve the
detection as shown (8):
Figure 2: Showing It (x,y) and mN (x,y)
respectively.

Selective Block
This block is similar to the non-selective
block, but it depends on the final mask output [4] as
shown by (6):

Temporal and Spatial Edge Detection
During a dark scene, True Positive pixels [2]
may not be detected and a major portion or the car
may be neglected. So to improve the segmentation
quality, the TP pixels need to be increased. This is
done by using two type of edge detection: Temporal
and Spatial Edge Detection blocks.

In temporal edge detection block, the edges are
detected by taking the difference of the current and
previous frame:
In spatial edge detection, the difference of current
image and background is taken as below:

Final Processing
The masks obtained by implementing
the previous algorithms are combined into a
single mask M_Temp1:
Temporal and spatial edge image mask mET and mES
respectively is given by the following equation:
where dil() and ero() denote 2x2 morphological
dilation and erosion operation [2] respectively.
The mask thus obtained usually contains False
negative and False positive pixels. Hence to improve
the shape of the blobs, the inbuilt opening block is
added to obtain the final frame of mask mV.
where θET and θES are constant threshold values.

Shadow Detection
Shadows get detected and may be
misunderstood by the system to be an object itself.
Hence to remove any such discrepancies, the Shadow
detection technique is used. By comparing the
decrease in brightness [5] [6] [7], shadows are
detected by the following equation:
where α and β are constant coefficients: α=0.55,
β=0.95, both evaluated experimentally.
CONCLUSION
In this paper, the combined algorithm for
extracting moving objects from a stored video stream
is proposed. The processing steps were carefully
selected and adopted to provide simple and
straightforward realization in specialized hardware,
such as FPGA. A few novel ideas to enhance the
algorithm are also developed, increasing the
robustness and maintaining its simplicity for
hardware implementation. The proposed method of
background calculation, using running mode is very
fast and requires only basic operations. The novel
combination of masks from selective and nonselective background improves the detection quality.
Shadow Detection in various light conditions
improves the sensitivity. The application of Final
Processing significantly improves the final blob
mask. The test and simulation result proves the
usability of the presented idea for recognizing the
moving vehicles at low power consumption-the
system properly found almost all of the moving
vehicles during different climatic conditions.
