Snam 2023-27 Industrial Plan - Financial Presentation
Kota - Mobilizing Large Scale Capital by Mayor Ratna Jain at GIB Summit
1. Climate Action, Sustainable Development Goals
and Sustainable Energy for All:
The Role of Finance for Infrastructure
and Making our Planet a Safe Place to Live
Dr. Ratna Jain
Mayor,
Municipal Corporation,
Kota (India)
2. The Kyoto Protocol has inadvertently resulted in the placing of
climate policy and development in to separate boxes.
The development must be green and sustainable to make
planet livable.
Therefore, Climate policy must be an integral part of the
development policy and plan.
CLIMATE ACTION
3. In the Rio+20 outcome document, member States agreed that
sustainable development goals (SDGs) must:
•Be based on Agenda 21 and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
•Fully respect all the Rio Principles.
•Be consistent with international law.
•Build upon commitments already made.
•Contribute to the full implementation of the outcomes of all major summits in the
economic, social and environmental fields.
•Focus on priority areas for the achievement of sustainable development, being guided
by the outcome document.
•Address and incorporate in a balanced way all three dimensions of sustainable
development and their inter-linkages.
•Be coherent with and integrated into the United Nations development agenda
beyond 2015.
•Not divert focus or effort from the achievement of the Millennium Development
Goals.
•Include active involvement of all relevant stakeholders, as appropriate, in the process.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
4. SDGs must be:
•Action-oriented
•Concise
•Easy to communicate
•Limited in number
•Aspirational
•Global in nature
•Universally applicable to all countries while taking into account
different national realities, capacities and levels of development and
respecting national policies and priorities.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
5. SDGs must be:
•Contribute to the achievement of sustainable development
•Serve as a driver for implementation and mainstreaming of sustainable
development in the UN system as a whole
•Address and be focused on priority areas for the achievement of
sustainable development.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
6. SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
Without sustainable energy, we will not meet the Millennium
Development Goals.
Sustainable development is not possible without sustainable energy
Let us work to bring sustainable energy to the developing countries
7. SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
Sustainable Energy for All is focused on achieving three objectives
•Universal Energy Access
•Renewable Energy
•Energy Efficiency
8. SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
India is among the countries
those are producing less pollution
and tangible green actions are being taken
with sincerity.
9. SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
For overcoming the problem of initial high cost of green
solutions, co-funding is required for greener infrastructure in
developing countries where the bulk of the modern
infrastructure will be built in the coming decades.
Win - Win situations can be made possible by funding in
green developmental activities in developing countries like
India
A Green Climate Fund will make our planet sustainable and
livable.
10. INDIA: A GLOBAL LEADER
•The second most populous country in the world,
With over 1.27 billion people.
•Already containing 17.5% of the world's population, India is
projected to be the world's most populous country by 2025.
•This will create demand for infrastructure development.
11. INDIAN HUMAN RESOURCE
India has enough talented human resource.
If funding reaches to the grass roots level it will be worth full
for long term sustainable projects.
13. KOTA
Population: 1.1 million Area 318 sq. kms.
For green and sustainable development :
•Affordable green housing
•Solar Power generation
•A hub of universities
14. Clean, Green and Healthy City
As a Doctor – Mayor, Health and Environment are my utmost
priority.
15. NEVER GIVE UP
ON WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO.
THE PERSON WITH BIG DREAM
IS MORE POWERFUL THAN
ONE WITH ALL FACTS.
- ALBERT EINSTEIN
