Kolomna
History Kolomna  was first mentioned in chronicles in 1177. As it was situated at the confluence of the three rivers (the  Moskva , the  Oka , and the  Kolomenka ) it was craft and trade center.  In the end of the 12th and 13th centuries Kolomna belonged to the country of  Ryazan , but in 1301 the town joined to Moscow Oblast.  At the end of the 14th century Kolomna became a very important trade and military center. It resisted the Mongol Empire greatly.  Due to significance of the town, the  Kremlin  was built to protect the town from the outlands. It was built in 1531. Originally the wall had 17 towers and spread for almost 2 km, the height of the walls was about 18 meters and thickness was about 4 meters.
Location Kolomna is situated in the central part of Russia 114 km south-east from Moscow The area of the city is about 6510 acres.

The Marinkina Tower The most famous tower is the Marinkina Tower. There is a legend that Maria Mnishek was imprisoned in it. Than she turned into crow and flew away.
Cathedral square   spiritual center of the town
Here you can find  the Uspensky Cathedral  which was built after the first victory over Golden Horde;  the Uspenskaya steepled  bell tower – one of the biggest in its way;  the Church of Nicola Gostinny  – one of the ancient ones in the Kremlin. The Pyatnitskie Gate  is the main gate of the Kremlin, situated in the eastern part of the wall. It is the only gate, which are preserved up to present days.

The skating center Kolomna is famous for its newly built skating center, which has no  equals  in Russia. Many European compactions are held there. It is situated in Old Kolomna, just near the Kremlin.
The Museum of Marshmallow Sticks   This Museum preserves immaterial wealth – taste, smell, traditions. There you can find out how marshmallow sticks were cooked hundred years ago and event taste it.
