Kolomna was first mentioned in 1177 and was situated at the confluence of three rivers, making it an important craft and trade center. In the 14th century, it became an important military and trade center and resisted the Mongol Empire. A kremlin was built in 1531 to protect the town, originally having 17 towers spread over 2 km, with walls that were 18 meters high and 4 meters thick. Today, 7 towers remain from the original kremlin. Kolomna is known for its skating center and Museum of Marshmallow Sticks, which preserves culinary traditions.
