This document discusses applying workplace role structures to personal life. It suggests defining clear goals, timeframes, tasks and responsibilities to achieve results outside of work similar to a job role description. This provides acceptance, clarity and relaxation by laying out parameters to guide progress instead of constantly wondering what to do. The document advises writing a description of the ideal person you want to become and life you want to live for accountability in achieving your goals. Overall, a clear framework from role parameters can help to stay on track and ultimately live an ideal life.
2. Workplace Role Description
• In the workplace we often have a role
description.
• This is a document setting out exactly what our
role entails.
• The role description gives us a framework within
which to work.
3. Parameters
The parameters:
• Role description
• Timeframe (where applicable)
• Specific set of tasks
• Responsibility and accountability
• Payment or reward
4. Acceptance, Clarity, Relaxation
• With these clear parameters comes acceptance,
clarity and a certain sense of relaxation
• We are not constantly having to think about
what we need to do and why
• It is clearly laid out for us
5. Your Life Outside Work
Consider the above parameters in your life outside
work:
• Do you have a clear role, purpose, mission,
vision or goal in your life?
• What timeframes are you giving yourself to
achieve the things you want to achieve?
• Are you giving yourself a timeframe at all?
6. Your Responsibilities
• Have you broken your goal(s) down into tasks
that you can weave into your life on a daily
basis?
• Do you fully accept the responsibilities you have
in your life? To what extent?
• Or are you constantly finding ways of getting out
of doing what you know you should be doing to
get the results you want?
7. Accountability For Your Results
• Do you hold yourself accountable for the results that
are constantly showing up in your life?
• Do you fully accept that wherever you are in life is
where, on some level, you have chosen to be?
• How often do you reward yourself for a job well
done? Or do you just move on to the next set of
tasks with no sense of self satisfaction?
• Do you have a clear, written description of the kind
of person you are working towards becoming and
the kind of ideal life you want to be living?
8. Parameters As Guides
• Parameters may seem to be there to imprison us
• But often they are there to guide us and ensure
that we get things done and live our ideal lives.
• How we view them is a direct reflection of our
mindset.
9. Clear Framework To Get Results
• So, if you’re in a job, especially one you dislike,
look at what valuable life lessons you can take
from the structure within which you work.
• Then, take the positives from that structure and
use them as a basis for getting your life outside
work in order.
• Giving yourself a clear framework will help you to
‘just get on with things’, get results and ultimately
live your ideal life.
