2. WHY MOST PEOPLE WILL NEVER BE
GREAT AT GOAL SETTING
• Because they never set goals or lack
the motivation to take action.
• Researchers found that only one in
five Americans, who reach the age
of 65, don’t depend on Social
Security.
• Some people who do depend on
social security include high-paying
professions like doctors and lawyers.
3. • Life is full of distractions, chaos and stress, leaving little or no time for most people to focus and plan
their lives.
• We work during the week and then spend our hard earned salary on the weekends.
4. HOW DID YOU SPEND YOUR WEEKEND?
Was it productive?
5. Break the Habit and don’t be like others…..
arriving into work on Monday morning, tired and stressed.
feeling you need to look for another job, as you need more money to cover
overspending.
not stopping to plan or set goals, instead hitting the job sites looking for that
‘golden egg.’
It’s already in your hands!

8. YOUR BELIEFS
• Beliefs are important, they affect the way we think and behave.
• Your behaviour depends on what you believe.
• Everything you do or don’t do is based on the beliefs you hold
about yourself and the world around you.
• Beliefs help determine how you react to others' behaviour — if
someone doesn’t say good morning, do you believe they are
being rude?

INDENTIFYING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND
FEELINGS
We all have negative thoughts and feelings. In this exercise I want you to look at your negative thoughts
and feeling and try and understand.
A. Do you know the root cause of the your negative thoughts or feelings?
B. Do you know they affect your behaviour?
• In this exercise I am looking at improving the way you handle negative aspects in your life and
what you can do to change this. This helps greatly with confidence and improve resilience.
• Under each heading make notes.
• Negative thoughts and feeling can have a profound effect on all aspects of your life.
14. POLISH

17. BEFORE MOVING ON……
Now you have written down your goals and know they are achievable.
But, before moving on there are a few point I would like to raise.
• Note your skills, knowledge and experience
• Try out your new goal to see if you enjoy it – you may want to do
presentations to further your career, for example.
• Do your research! Talk to people and even get a mentor or coach.

SECTION SUMMARY
Author of Psycho Cybernetics, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, says that once
you set a goal your mind becomes more focused. Focusing will open
your mind up to opportunities you may have normally missed. Your
mind makes corrections so that you can stay on target. The more
specific the goal is, the better the corrections are and more
opportunities appear.
20. PLANNING
Nothing changes if you don’t write it down.
Break goals into smaller chunks
Monitor progress, perhaps use a project planning tools.
Get an accountability buddy.
Remember – Goals are flexible and will change.
Know when to change direction
21. PER-FECT
Summary
This bit is down to you, the most important piece of advice I can give you is to TAKE ACTION and
HAVE FUN.
Set goals that inspire you, but that are also realistic and achievable. Set a series of goals so that you are
going step-by-step. That way, it easier to adjust them as needed.

• Perceive - start with an idea, something you
want to change, but what are the first steps?.
• Polish - investigate and play with whatever
you are trying to change or improve.
• Perfect - time to really focus and make it
work.
We all have ideas, unfulfilled dreams and life, at
times, lacking direction.
