The document discusses the need for a metro system in Kochi, India due to the growing population and traffic congestion. It analyzes existing metro systems in other Indian cities and the organizational structure of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). KMRL aims to provide efficient public transportation to connect people and places safely and comfortably. While KMRL has opportunities through expansion projects, it faces threats such as comparisons to more established metro systems and potential disuse of the service if the public does not adopt public transportation. The internship provided hands-on learning of KMRL's departments and contributions to workshops and data entry. The internship concluded metro systems are more energy efficient and cause less pollution and congestion than other transportation options
When evaluating mass transit options for Indian cities, metro rail systems are given preference over surface systems due to the belief that road-based bus systems cannot cater to the capacity requirement as much as metro systems can. In addition, metro rails are perceived to have higher levels of comfort, speed, and efficiency than bus systems.

In the Adani-Hindenburg case, what is SEBI investigating.pptxAdani case
Adani SEBI investigation revealed that the latter had sought information from five foreign jurisdictions concerning the holdings of the firm’s foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in relation to the alleged violations of the MPS Regulations. Nevertheless, the economic interest of the twelve FPIs based in tax haven jurisdictions still needs to be determined. The Adani Group firms classed these FPIs as public shareholders. According to Hindenburg, FPIs were used to get around regulatory standards.
3. INTRODUCTION-Need for metro
• PublicTransport System is an efficient user of space and with reduced level of air and noise
pollution.
• As the population of a KOCHI grows, share of public transport, whether road or rail-based,
should increase.
• In cities like Kochi where roads do not have adequate width and which cater to mixed
traffic conditions comprising slow and fast moving vehicles, road transport can optimally
carry 8,000 persons per hour per direction .
• When traffic density increases beyond this level average speed of vehicles comes down,
journey time increases, air population goes up and commuters are put to increased level, of
inconvenience.
• With growing population and mega development plans coming up for this port city, the
travel demand is expected to grow steeply.
• With inadequate public transport services, passengers will shift to private modes, which is
already evident from the high ownership trends in the region. This will not only aggravate
the congestion on the city roads but will also increase the pollution level.
• Road-based public transport, therefore, can not meet this demand.
4. Objectives
• To understand organizational structure.
• To understand the functions and processes of each department.
• To understand the objectives of each department.
• To make a SWOT analysis of the organization.
• To ensure highest value of customer.
5. INDUSTRYANALYSIS
MRTS IN INDIA
KOLKATA METRO
• India's first mass rapid transit system, opened in 1984
• Country's first underground metro.
DELHI METRO
• World's first railway project to be awarded carbon credits by the United Nations.
MUMBAI METRO
• Running parallel to theWestern Express Highway, theWestern Railway suburban section, the S.V.
Road and the Link Road.
• The aim of Metro Lines is to reduce road congestion and overcrowding in the local trains which will
provide major relief to the commuters.
CHENNAI METRO
• India's first elevated railway line.
PUNE METRO,HYDERABAD
8. VISION : To enrich the quality of life for everyone in Kochi by facilitating better
connectivity between people, between people and places, and between
people and prosperity.
Mission : To make Kochi a more livable and pleasant city for residents and
visitors alike, where public transportation would be used by all – connecting
people and places safely, seamlessly, reliably and comfortably.
9. Products and Services
• Completion in record time:The Kochi Metro is the longest first phase metro operation in
the country. It took the shortest time - 45 months - to be commissioned into service.
• Eco-friendly
• Themed stations
• Ferry service
• Disabled friendly coaches
• Free Wi-Fi
• Chenda in coaches
10. FINANCIALS
• Status of Revenue Operation: The total revenue generated was Rs. 134.95
crore inclusive of fare box revenue from metro train operations covering a
total distance of 23.87 km from Aluva to Thykoodam, non-fare box revenue
and external projects, as against Rs. 104.48 crore in the previous year.
• After adjustment of Depreciation and amortization expenses, Finance cost,
other comprehensive income and tax expenses, a loss amounting to Rs.
310.01 crore (previous year Rs. 285.18 crore) was incurred during the year.
11. Strengths:
1. The company holds the monopoly to design, construct
and execute the idea of a metro rail transportation,
system in the city of Kochi.
2. No other company or organization exists in
competition with KMRL within Kochi for the same kind of
service in the city.
3. KMRL has the support from DMRC and BMRC
Weakness:
• KMRL is a young organization and an Organization which is still in its
project phase.
• One of the projects have been operational and hence the company
does not still have a source of income
• The constant change in policies brings about confusion at some
extend within the organization among departments.
• The chaos causes differences in execution within the offices which in
turn reflects in the work sites.
• The disability to handle deputation staff.
• .
Opportunities:
1.The organization has various other ventures like the
water metro project and the Kochi smart mission
project, the chances of profit margin increases.
2.Better boats, air conditioned for affordable prices are
a huge plus point in Kochi as the city is extremely humid
and, moreover at near the water bodies.
3.KMRL also takes up voluntary responsibility of
cleaning up the water bodies for the water metro project
and also does some CSR activities for the society.
Threats/Challenges:
1. A constant comparison to Delhi METRO could rust down
the specialties of Kochi Metro as the prior is well
established and running successfully.
2.The agitation by the civilians with regard to blocks at
roads due to the construction work of metro lines is also
defaming the organization and could affect the larger
outcome of the service
3.The usual mentality of the city's crowd of avoiding public
transport can also become a major threat to the
functioning of the service as profits would only rise with
maximum utilization of the rail service by the public
12. POSITIONING OFTHE INTERN

• Familiarizing the Departments within the organization
• Familiarizing the functions of the company
• To develop practical knowledge
• Allocation of leave quota to all employees.
• To enter the leave details of all the employees in ESS software of KMRL.
Operations department

• Observed how the OCC overall works.
• Gained knowledge about how a station is controlled and handled by the station controller.
• Visited the upcoming project site – KochiWater Metro
13. CONTRIBUTIONS
• Volunteered a workshop conducted in company
• Helped to design certificate for training program
• Helped to prepare attendance sheet for the workshop.
• Helped to sort out the number of employees joined from startup period. Entered
the leave details of all employees
• Completed employees pending leave quota in ESS at KMRL website.
• Prepared feedback form, attendance sheet for the workshop
14. LEARNINGS

• Learned how to interact with people in unknown areas
• Gained new information about the upcoming projects. Analysis of achievements
v/s objectives
• Got familiarized with business organization
• Made SWOT analysis of the organization.
• Got an overall idea about objectives of departments
15. COCLUSION
• Requires 1/5th energy per passenger km compared to road-based system.
• Causes no air pollution in the city.
• Causes lesser noise level
• Occupies no road space if underground and only about 2 meters width of the road if
elevated.
• Carries same amount of traffic as 5 lanes of bus traffic or 12 lanes of private motor cars
(either way), if it is a light capacity system.
• Is more reliable, comfortable and safer than road based system
• Reduces journey time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions.
