Mobile Based Electricity Billing Systems is a combination of a distributed system to
facilitate better performance of electricity billing process. the database was developed using
MySQL server version 6, developed by Oracle and the framework used to design android
applications is Eclipse which is OSI Certified Open Source Software. Most of the Eclipse
SDK is "pure" Java code and has no direct dependence on the underlying operating system.
The chief dependence is therefore on the Java Platform itself. Portions are targeted to specific
classes of operating environments, requiring their source code to only reference facilities
available in particular class.
The Apache server, which is used to create the virtual server is a HTTP Server Project
which is a collaborative software development effort aimed at creating a robust, commercialgrade, featured, and freely-available source code implementation of an HTTP (Web) server.
And the XAMPP version 1.8.3 is a configuration package containing Apache 2.4.4, MySQL
5.5.32 (Community Server), PHP 5.5.6 (VC11 X86 32bit thread safe) and phpMyAdmin 4.0.4
these frameworks were used in developing this software.
GSM BASED PREPAID ENERGY METER BILLING VIA SMSSRINIVAS REDDY
The project is designed for reading electrical energy consumed in units and in rupees to display on an LCD screen to the user. This data is also provided to the electrical department using GSM technology for billing purposes. Owing to high electricity cost these days it becomes necessary for the consumer to know as to how much electricity is consumed to control electricity bill within his budget by recharging the energy meter units via S.M.S .
Finally when the energy meter coming to zero user can again recharge according to the purpose used. In this proposed system, the consumer will get his energy consumption data on real time basis on a LCD display. The same data is sent through GSM modem to the electricity department via SMS. A microcontroller of 8051 family is interfaced to the energy meter to get the Watt Hour pulses.
Further this project can be enhanced by to control the electrical appliances remotely via SMS. Also, the electricity department can send the monthly bill amount over SMS to the receiving unit for consumer information.
The project “Billing system” is an application to automate the process of ordering
And billing of a restaurant .This application is developed for the established restaurants in the city to manage the billing operations. It has the entire basic module to operate the billing modules. This application also administrates its users and customers.
This project will serve the following objectives:-
• Add and maintain records of available products.
• Add and maintain customer details.
• Add and maintain description of new products.
• Add and maintain admin and employee details.
• Provides a convenient solution of billing pattern.
• Make an easy to use environment for users and customers.
• Create membership for customers.

Reading Assignment
Chapter 5:
IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies
Chapter 7:
Telecommunications, the Internet, and Wireless Technology
Unit Lesson
IT Infrastructure and Technology
How are IT infrastructure and emerging technologies important to organizations? In the last unit, we
talked about the role that information technology (IT) plays in organizations and business strategy. In this unit,
we will discuss a natural continuation of that topic with a focus on emerging technologies and communication
technologies such as wireless technology, the Internet, and telecommunications.
What is IT infrastructure? If you remember from the textbook reading in Chapter 1, our IT infrastructure
includes the shared technology resources that provide the platform supporting our information systems
applications. IT infrastructure includes everything technical that supports the business. It supports both the
business and IT strategies.
Think of it this way: If our strategy is to offer our customer a specific service such as electronic invoicing
(EDI), how can we do that without the infrastructure in place to carry out that goal? The IT infrastructure in this
case is the EDI software, the hardware (a server, database, and the Internet), the personnel, educational
services, management services, and so on.
How has the IT infrastructure evolved over time? Most of us have a sense of the scope’s answer to this
question. It is enormous! Just look at computers—the first ones were huge. Businesses used mainframes the
size of trucks, and now servers are the size of a desktop.
Simple applications of the past have now become suites, or bundles of applications that can work together.
Now, there are enterprise-level applications that help improve an organization’s productivity and efficiency via
a collection of programs with common business applications. They are designed to be customizable to solve
enterprise-wide problems rather than personal or departmental problems.
In addition, there are newly emerging enterprise-level tools such as enterprise database management
software. Again, this concept of enterprise level takes the already existing tools to a different level to answer
the need for more storage and enterprise-wide sharing.
Years ago, dialing into the Internet meant using a slow modem. Now, businesses can use fiber-optic and
wireless technologies. In the past, for small to medium-sized organizations, many of the emerging

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

4. Introduction of Information Technology
(IT)
Information Technology –
The term commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer mentors, but it
also emphasis other information distribution technologies such as television and
telephones.
Several industries are associated with information technology, including computer
hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, telecommunication
equipment and ecommerce. Human have been storing, retrieving, manipulating and
communicating information since the summaries in Mesopotamia developed
writing in about 3000BC, but the term information technology in the modern sense
first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Howard business Review, authors
Harold T. Leavitt and Thomas L. whisper commented that the new technology does
not yet have a single established name.
We shall call it information technology their definition consist of their categories.
Technique for processing, the application of statistical and mathematics method of
decision making and the simulation of higher order thinking through computer
program.
Based on the storage and processing technologies employed, it is possible to
distinguish four distinct phase of IT development: pre-mechanical (1450-1840),
electromechanical (18401940), electronic (1940-present) and moreover it as a
service. This article focuses on the most recent period (electronic), which began in
about 1940.
Set of tools, processes, and methodologies (such as coding, programming, data
communication, data conversion, storage & retrieval, system analysis & design,
system control) and associated equipment employee to collect process and present
information. In broad terms, it also includes office automation, multimedia and
Tele – communication.
Information Technology, a source we call the “computer”, that can show you
what information via Tele-portal, scoping, working calibration for transmitting
throughout the world.
More commonly known as I.T. is the most popular career and the fastest growing
industry in the world. There are several success stories about people who choose
this field for a career and are now on top of their game.
Information technology covers a board spectrum of hardware and software solution
that enable organizations to gather, organize and analyze data. It also details
technology based workflow processes.
5. Few reasons for why people choose IT –
Low cost of education
The biggest advantage of choosing information technology for a career is that it
has very low cost of education as compared to many other career choices. You
don’t need degree to become an I.T. professional. Instead, you can get quick
training to be certified in specific areas of information technology. This way
you save huge amounts of money that you may have otherwise spent on years
of college tuition.
Fastest changing industry
The information technology industry operates at a speed much faster than any
other industry and for this reason, there’s always a significant demand for
highly skilled workers with the innovations in cloud computing, big data and
cyber security an aspiring I.T. professional has many avenues to pursue and
grow from and I.T. professional never stops learning, and must always stay on
top of the latest technology trend in order to be successful in the field. The
more training and knowledge the I.T. professional has the more employable he
or she will be.
Better income
It is well known fact that information technology professionals are paid well,
compared to other professionals. An I.T. professional with the right mix of
certifications & experience can find a permanent position in either the public or
private sector. Recently many companies have been extensively hiring experts
in cloud computing, cyber security and network security to help enhance their
current systems.

7. Introduction to Project
“Restaurant Billing System” in “Visual Basic Programming Language” which
includes many features like:
Graphical and User friendly interface.
Less time consuming.
No paper work.
Efficient working.
Easy updation of database.
Login through unique id and password by admin i.e. security from an
unauthorized people.
Why it is made –
The main purpose of this project is replace the manually work.
Provide a friendly environment to maintain the details of customer and
employee.
This project reduce the paper work.
It reduce complexity.
Security from unauthorized user.
For easy billing of restaurant.
Give accurate result.
Visual Basic –
Visual Basic 6.0 Language Visual basic (VB) is a 3rd generation event-driven
programming language developed by Microsoft for their operating system
windows. Visual basic is a widely understood high level programming
language, written using simple English. Like – words & syntax.
It is an interpreted language. Code can be run immediately after being written.
Having an interpreter makes its simpler to use, as there is no need for the
computer to compile the code, possibly finding errors to fix, before the
compiled version can be run. Once the code is working, it can be compiled into
an .exe file so that it will run on all modern windows computers, whether VB is
installed or not.
The language allows a beginning programmer to produce professional –
looking windows applications, as its include drawing tools to create normal
windows and structures which allow programs to be adapted for use with the
internet. VB will not run on operating systems other than windows.
8. Visual Basic has its origin in basic which was developed round about the year
1960, when high level languages were just being introduced to the computer
community. Microsoft has made it extremely powerful by gearing all its good
features to the windows environment.
Evaluation of Visual Basic –
VB 1.0 was introduced in 1991. The drag and drop design for creating the user
interface is derived from prototype from generator developed by Allan cooper
and his company called Tripod. Microsoft contracted with cooper and his
associates to develop Tripod into a programmable form system for windows
3.0, under the code name Ruby (no relation to the Ruby programming
language). Tripod did not include a programming language at all. Microsoft
decided to combine Ruby with the basic language to create Visual Basic.
Need of Visual Basic –
Visual Basic is easy to learn programming language. With Visual Basic you
can develop windows based applications and Games. Visual Basic is much
easier to learn than others language (like Visual C++), and yet it’s powerful
programming language.
Visual Basic suite more for desktop application developing than for Games
developing. You can create sophisticated games using Visual Basic, Visual
Basic will be probably powerful enough to suite all your application and games
programming needs.
Ms-Access Requirement –
All the databases are created in the Microsoft access 2003.
Microsoft access 2003 is the product of Microsoft.
Microsoft access 2003, we create table which is the combination of rows and
columns.
When we want to connect Microsoft access database in VB project so we save
the Microsoft access file with .mdb extension.
We use Microsoft access 2003 with visual basic because visual basic supports
Microsoft access 2003.
We can create multiple tables in single database.
Visual basic does not support Microsoft access 2007 or later version.
9. Project & Their Facilities
The project that I made is “Restaurant Billing System Software”. This project is based
on billing of product.
This project provides all information that required in billing software. This software
describes the working of supermarket. This project contains lots of information will
entered properly.
This project basically works on two categories:-
Front End
Back End
Front End - Basically this project work on visual basic.
Back End - Basically this project works on MS Access 2003.
At the Front hand basically this project works on Visual Basic. It is event
driven programming based project.
At the Back hand basically this project works on Microsoft Access 2003.
My project contains ADODB connectivity with modules and also contains List View
so that all the information shown in List View.
MS Access contains the database and the tables which is help to fetch the records.
The file extension of MS Access 2003 is .MDB.
Why we made this project:-
1. To give knowledge of computer and reduce the work load of human being.
2. In my project there are so many facilities available which get our work easier.
3. It will increase the productivity and reduce the duplicity of data.
4. It will access easier to information related to the student.
5. It will maintain all records and time saving interface application.
6. It reduces the paper work.
7. It is accurate and reduce the complexity.
8. It saves the cost of employee.
9. It will give security to the staff.
10.To provide easy to user interface.
10. Objectives of Restaurant Management System –
1. Automation – The application automates each and every activity of the
manual system and increases its throughput. Thus the response time of the
system is very less and it works very fast.
2. Accuracy – The application provides the user a quick response with very
accurate information regarding the user etc. any details or system in an accurate
manner, as when required.
3. User Friendly – The application “Restaurant Billing System” has a very
user friendly interface. Thus the users will full very easy to work on it. The
application provides accuracy along with a pleasant interface. Make the present
manual system more interactive, speedy and user friendly.
4. Availability – The all Restaurant detail store permanently in the database
admin can see the data in the availability of any information, whatever needed.
5. Maintain Cost – Reduce the cost of maintenance. It is standalone
application so no required of cost for maintain it.
