The opening two minutes of the film Kidulthood establish the main characters and setting through shots of the characters in their school uniforms or casual clothes that provide clues to their personalities. Financing from HanWay Films and Stealth Films is also briefly noted. Mid shots are mostly used to frame the characters and show two girls who seem separate from other crowds at their school.

1. KIDULTHOOD I’ve analysed the opening two minutes of Kidulthood in order to look at the key features they have used and apply them, if possible, to my own production. This will also help with my understanding of the British film industry and British Social Realism films.

2. These titles at the start of the film last for 30 seconds along with upbeat music and natural sounds in the background such as children playing. HanWay Films and Stealth Films helped finance and produce this film.

3. These next shots show the characters that are going to be main parts in the film. This helps the audience get a feel for what they are like. The two girls are wearing their school uniform but with their shirts undone, not tucked in and their ties not done up – indicating they may not be interested in school. The boy is dressed in a tracksuit with his hood up – making him look quite rough and tough.

4. The shots throughout the first two minutes of the film are mostly mid shots, this being an example of one above. This shows another pair of girls who don’t seem to fit in with the other crowds.
