BULLET BOY I’ve analysed the opening two minutes of Bullet Boy in order to look at the key features they have used and apply them, if possible, to my own production. This will also help with my understanding of the British film industry and British Social Realism films.
These titles at the start of the film show who funded and helped produce the film. Bullet Boy was produced by BBC Films and was financed by the UK Film Council. The UK Film Council is now being cut which means money from the Lottery Fund will now be given out through the BFI.
By the title of the film coming up on the screen like this makes it very clear to the audience.
At 1:06 minutes there is dialogue introduced into the film. The character we can see here is wearing a grey tracksuit and is in a very bare, white prison cell. The lighting is quite bright and realistic.
This long shot shows the tension between all characters – the boy coming out of prison and the prison guards. This also helps show the difference in classes as the guards seem to look down on him. His strong London accent helps convey this film as a British Social Realism film.
The next shots quicken up and the pace becomes much faster. Cross-cutting is used in these shots in order to show the boy above and the boy in the boot.
