The core of Total Quality Management is continuous improvement. The first step in continual improvement is by becoming more organized. 5S is a small yet powerful concept to effectively manage one’s workplace. 5S originated from Japan after World War II and it refers to small changes that lead to large improvements. 5S addresses process improvement through constant elimination of waste or non-value adding activity, inconsistencies and strains experienced by people and equipment within an organization. Traditionally the Japanese automobile companies used the concept to make their shop floor more organized and efficient. The concept is now widespread and is being applied in nearly all the industries. The concept is so simple that its implementation takes only three to four days once the initial idea has been understood. We have taken the example of ICICI bank to show how the concept of 5S can be extended to service industry.

Management Styles and Employee Performance: A Study of a Public Sector Compan...Masroor Soomro
Abstract: This research investigated that do management styles have any significant effect over employee performance with HR being an intervening variable, a trend setter or culture molder in the organization and judging its impact over employee performance of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) limited, which is an organization with diversified backgrounds and cultures of working people having different norms and values. Keeping the problem statement in the mind four hypotheses were proposed including autocratic and MBWA management styles. Culture has significant effect over employee performance with respect to autocratic and MBWA management styles. There is significant difference between employee perceived performance and HRIS employee performance record. The target population with sample size of 158 E-grade officer as respondents were provided questionnaire. Tests of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Paired Sample T-test showed that two of proposed hypotheses were accepted and two were rejected. Hence, autocratic management styles do affect employee performance while management has to work hard to establish a good governing norms and values. This helpsto mold its new management styles and culture and set new image of the organization and generate productive results.

Heijunka (hi-JUNE-kuh) is a Japanese word for leveling.
It is part of the lean methodology of process
improvement that helps organizations match
unpredictable customer demand patterns and
eliminate manufacturing waste by leveling the type
and quantity of production output over a fixed period
of time.

It highlights the causes of problems because work stops
immediately when a problem first occurs.
This leads to improvements in the processes that build in
quality by eliminating the root causes of defects.
Jidoka sometimes is called autonomation,
meaning automation with human intelligence.
10. What is a poka yoke?
Poka-yoke [poka joke] is a Japanese term that means
"mistake-proofing" or "inadvertent error prevention".
The key word in the second translation, often omitted,
is "inadvertent".
