YouthMoves Panorama and National Festival rehearsals are going well. Lots of fundraising going on to
help with costs. Look out for our youngsters at these events. Plus, Northern Lights have been invited to
perform at the KFA National AGM in October which will be hosted by KFA Yorkshire and held at the
English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Review
The 59th
AGM of KFAMoves North East Region took place at Park View School (North
Lodge), Lombard Drive, Chester le Street. This was a new venue for the AGM, and it seemed
to work well.
Joan Holmes, Vice President, opened the meeting.
Teachers – Sharon Batty, Lisa Clarke, Bernadette Rogers
Teacher Training Session – Ruth McGrath and Ann Brown
Thanks also, to Christine Chapman and Carol Yeomans and Margaret Weetman for the
refreshments and afternoon tea, and Joan Holmes for the raffle.
Regarding officer roles, all current Executive Committee Officers were elected to stand
again. However, no-one had come forward to take on the roles of Chair and Secretary for
2016/2017. The Chair asked for urgent nominations from the membership to come forward and
shadow both the Chair and Secretary roles, with a view to taking on those roles effectively in
2017.
Following the AGM, everyone was treated to Youth Moves performances. All the girls
stayed after their performances and thoroughly enjoyed their tea. They would like to thank the
North East for making them so welcome.
“Crystalise” – 4 little twinkling stars.
The girls performed with such confidence,
given their age, and were proud to have the
opportunity to repeat this dance which they
first performed at Youth Moves
Extravaganza

“Revolting Children” from Matilda. The girls, who are 8-10years old, performed
this fun dance drama at Youth Moves Extravaganza in November 2015, and
really enjoyed performing it again at the AGM
Stephanie Wareham dances
to “Love Me Like You Do” by
Ellie Goulding.
It was great for Stephanie
Wareham (now aged 17
years) to be invited to
perform her amazing
Championship solo at the
North East AGM. She would
have been one of - if not the
youngest - competitor at
Nottingham last year. She is
indeed talented and we are
extremely proud of her!

as organising and cooking for social events)
As Ethel was not able to attend the AGM, Barbara
Carter, South Tyneside Branch Treasurer and Executive
Committee Representative, accepted the Award on her
behalf, from Lynne Casey (Chair of KFAMoves North
East), and Marilyn Laverick (Secretary of KFAMoves
North East).

KFA in South Tyneside. She was a regular
performer in Panorama for over 20 years, and still
travels to watch every year.
As Audrey was not able to attend the AGM, Ann

This year marks the 21st

achieving the highest annual percentage increase in membership within the North East Region.

In 2015 we celebrated our 55th
Anniversary. We enjoyed a
wonderful get-together during the Summer, but rounded
off the year with a themed 50’s evening. Marjorie Rocket
cut the cake on behalf of the Branch, and we danced away
the evening to favourite songs of the decade sung by Janie
St John. Many thanks to all our members for their
continuing support.

It’s all about Fitness and Fun – and
especially Friendship
My name is Beverley Foster and I am a member of the Chester-le-Street Branch Keep Fit
Association. I attend regular classes at both Chester-le-Street and Framwellgate Moor.
As a result, I have made new friends. We enjoy doing exercise, movement and dance
while working together as a team. We have lots of fun and I am building my confidence.
Lesley, our teacher, is kind and caring. She makes us all feel part of the team.
Encourage your friends to join the K A. It’s the est move I have made.

Blue Workout Raises Heart-Rates And

By Rebecca Scott
Posted on 1st December 2015
In support of the Alzheimer’s Society, fitness instructor Lesley Colwill painted
Chester-le-Street Parish Centre blue with a special work-out…
Me bers and friends of the town’s Keep Fit Association Moves branch got together
for a ‘Blue’ Workout fundraising event, the colour chosen to re resent the charity.
Participants packed out the Parish Centre, off Church Chare, to enjoy a great
evening of exercise, movement and dance to a variety of music led by KFA Moves
instructor, Lesley.
The fitness group was also treated to a top-class performance from the North East
KFA Young Adults Cha ionshi Tea ‘Northern Lights’.
A raffle and refreshments were available afterwards, with blue cakes and buns to get
the energy back after a great workout. All in all, the association raised a fantastic
£ 00 for Alzhei er’s Society.
Rebecca Scott, Alzhei er’s Society co unity fundraiser in the North East said:
“We are extre ely grateful to Lesley and KFA for all of the time and effort they have
ut into this event for Alzhei er’s Society. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of
individuals like Lesley and the group to help us support people to live well with
dementia, and to fund research to find a cure.”

Long time KFA member Alison Balmer with mum, Stella Hirst and daughter,
Katherine Hewes enjoying keeping fit together at the Chester-le-Street Parish
Centre. Alison introduced her mum to the KFA Moves class in March 2013 and
she has een attending regularly ever since. Alison’s daughter, who joined the
class last year, comes along on her days off from working in Newcastle. It’s
wonderful to see all three ladies dancing and exercising at their Wednesday
Dance and Fit Moves class run by KFA Teacher Lesley Colwill.
