Who Are We? <ul><li>We are a Charitable organisation (No. 245421) established since 1951, we are affiliated to Royal Mencap a National Charity and aim to improve the lives and opportunities of children and adults with a Learning Difficulty , their families and carers in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas . </li></ul><ul><li>Together we will… </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure needs are met </li></ul><ul><li>Speak out for equal rights </li></ul><ul><li>Raise awareness and understanding </li></ul>Chelms ford
  4. 4. What We Do At Chelmsford Mencap we are committed to providing as many recreational and social activities for our members, their families, friends and carers. Members enjoy a varied choice of the clubs below giving them the opportunity to make new friends whilst receiving the respect they deserve from our dedicated and accredited volunteers. Our Clubs Daybreak Scheme (3-18s years) Gateway Club (16 years and over) Gateway Dance Group (16 years and over) Gateway Kidz Club (5-16s years) Adult Adventurers (19 years and over) CMYC (16-25 years) AJ’s After School Activity Club (5-16 years)* *Launching September 2008 Chelms ford
  5. 5. What You Can Do <ul><li>We always need volunteers to help us at our clubs and events. We can usually find a position and frequency that suits you, whether it be working a couple of hours on a fortnightly basis or assisting with office duties in your own home. </li></ul><ul><li>All volunteers receive a free CRB check, full expenses paid including mileage at 40p per mile, a free copy of our quarterly news magazine and are entered into our prestigious award for Volunteer of the Year. Free training courses, such as 1 st Aid and Appointed Person can also be provided as necessary. </li></ul><ul><li>Volunteers that help out at our various outings and events receive complimentary tickets. Last year some of our volunteers enjoyed free days out at places such as Thorpe Park, a Thames River Cruise, The Snowman Production and Chessington World of Adventures with expenses paid for lunch also! </li></ul><ul><li>If you would like to become a Chelmsford Mencap Volunteer then please ask our Charity Secretary (Mrs Sam Barnett) for an application form or download directly from our web site at </li></ul>Chelms ford

Members are entitled to attend the subsidised Chelmsford Mencap Clubs and Events, and will receive the quarterly Chelmsford & Essex Mencap news magazines, birthday cards*, invitations, free £10.00 Christmas voucher* (providing they are a member on the 1 st August each year) plus much more! </li></ul><ul><li>*Applies to Learning Disability members only </li></ul>Chelms ford

Daybreak Scheme 3-18 years <ul><li>Daybreak is Ofsted registered and provides specialist subsidised childcare services for members during the Easter and Summer school holidays for just £7.00 a day for those with a learning difficulty/special needs </li></ul><ul><li>Various activities and outings are organised for each session that some members would not otherwise have the opportunity to go to, all with the help of one to one volunteer support and companionship </li></ul><ul><li>Thorpe Park · Legoland · Dukes Genesis · Pond Dipping </li></ul><ul><li>Chessington World of Adventurers · Adventure Island </li></ul>Chelms ford

Gateway Club 16 years+ <ul><li>A drop in centre open to all members for just 50p per session with free snacks and beverages we meet at the Westlands Community Primary School, Beeches Close every Thursday (term time only) between 7pm & 9pm. </li></ul><ul><li>Activities are chosen in advance by the members and they regularly enjoy Tenpin Bowling, Darts, Discos, Line Dancing, Bingo, Drawing, Gardening and Entertainers etc. </li></ul><ul><li>A great opportunity to make new friends </li></ul><ul><li>with similar interests! </li></ul>Chelms ford

Gateway Dance Group 16 Years+ <ul><li>Nearly 30 members practice every Monday at this free club based at Boswell’s School, Springfield between 7pm-8pm, they regularly perform in various shows and events across the county </li></ul><ul><li>Free dance uniform provided, sponsored by </li></ul><ul><li>Taught by qualified Dance Practitioner in partnership with the Boswells School </li></ul>Chelms ford

Gateway Kidz Club 5-16 Years <ul><li>Open to members of Chelmsford Mencap this friendly youth club provides weekly term time sessions every Tuesday at Woodlands School, Chelmsford between 5.15pm-6.45pm. Entry costs just £5.00 per session (payable in advance) with snacks and beverages free. </li></ul><ul><li>The club also works in partnership with the King Edward Grammar School (KEGS) to provide various fun activities and entertainers at each session, with one to one help available from accredited volunteers. </li></ul>Chelms ford

Adult Adventurers Club 19 Years+ <ul><li>This club was opened in December 2007 by singer/songwriter Nik Kershaw and is open to members over the age of 19 years and activities take place at both Chelmsford College Campus’ </li></ul><ul><li>The Club runs during the Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays and members enjoy a variety of outings and activities for just £5.00 a day such as theatre trips, theme parks, zoo trips, tenpin bowling, arts and crafts, London Eye and variety of sports </li></ul>Chelms ford

CMYC (Youth Club) 16-25 Years <ul><li>This Youth Club was launched in January 2008 by Simon Burns MP , as a stepping stone between our Gateway Kidz Club and our Gateway Club and runs 50 weeks a year, entry costs just £1.00 per session with free snacks and beverages </li></ul><ul><li>The club is based at the St. John Payne School every Tuesday evening between 6.30pm-8.30pm and members enjoy a variety of activities and equipment, with occasional special trips to Tenpin and Pizza Hut! </li></ul>Chelms ford
  13. 13. AJ’s After School Activity Club 5-16 Years <ul><li>This club is planning to launch in September 2008, and we are already assisting in the provision of a Dance Group at Woodlands School. We are currently in discussions with the Chelmsford New Model Special School Committee to forge a close working partnership for the benefit members and pupils </li></ul><ul><li>The club will hopefully be held at the Haywards School Campus’ between 3.15pm-6pm approx </li></ul>Chelms ford

How We Are Funded <ul><li>Although we are affiliated to Royal Mencap, we are not in anyway funded by them </li></ul><ul><li>Our income is generated through fundraising, grants from local councils, trusts, businesses and bequeaths with a very small percentage coming from our membership subscriptions, club fees and rental from our premises in Mildmay Road that is leased to Learning for Work (a Royal Mencap project) </li></ul><ul><li>On average we are required to raise £122,000 every year in order to sustain the services we provide .
