The document discusses laser spine surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. It notes that while the Laser Spine Institute promotes minimally invasive surgery using lasers, the author's focus is on selecting the right patients and procedures for outpatient surgery based on individual patient factors and spine disease, not just using the smallest incision. The author notes that only a small percentage of cases can realistically be done with a single one-inch incision as advertised, and that the incision size should match the spine disease rather than being the primary goal. Patient safety and achieving the goal of reducing pain must be priorities over the incision size.

The team conducted over 100 interviews with surgeons, radiologists, administrators and other stakeholders. Based on feedback, they pivoted their focus from urology to thoracic surgery. Thoracic surgeons expressed a strong need for a product that could help localize lung lesions minimally invasively. The team determined thoracic surgery represents a $250 million market opportunity in the US. They have refined their product and business model based on learning that thoracic surgeons could find small lung nodules twice as fast with the technology without need for preoperative preparation. The team believes they will pursue an SBIR Phase II application with a significant pivot in customer segments from original plans but that the technical feasibility remains.

Cost effective Vertebroplasty surgery now available in IndiaHealth Service
Vertebroplasty surgery in India is available at leading medical institutions concerning spine surgery that gives our overseas clients the opportunity to access world class quality medical treatments at a very affordable price. India is a leading player in the medical tourism/healthcare facilitation industry. It is increasingly emerging as the destination of choice for a wide range of medical procedures. India offers internationally accredited medical facilities using the latest technologies, highly qualified physicians/surgeons and hospital support staff. The cost of Vertebroplasty surgery in India is lower by 35-40% when compared to similar procedures in North America and the UK.
Vertebroplasty surgery is a spine treatment procedure where bone cement is injected into a fractured spine vertebra to stabilize it. The procedure of vertebroplasty is typically used for a spine fracture caused by osteoporosis, a disease that causes weakening of the bones and can lead to fractures in the spine vertebra. An osteoporotic spine fracture can become the cause of extreme back pain along with other symptoms such as decreased height and spinal deformity or a hunchback appearance. The primary aim of vertebroplasty is to reduce pain caused by spine fracture by stabilizing the bone. Vertebroplasty surgery is typically performed by a spine surgeon or interventional radiologist. It is a minimally invasive procedure and patients usually go home the same day after the completion of the procedure.
Right candidates for Vertebroplasty surgery:
Right candidates for vertebroplasty include:
1. Elderly patients who are suffering from osteoporosis, compression fractures or a weakened vertebrae due to cancer.
2. Younger patients who have developed osteoporosis after long-term use of steroid treatment, cigarettes or metabolic disorder.
3. Individuals with malignant tumors on the spine.
Some common use of Vertebroplasty surgery procedure:
Vertebroplasty surgery is used to treat pain caused by vertebral compression fractures in the spine. Typically, vertebroplasty is recommended after simpler treatment such as bed rest, a back brace or pain medication have been ineffective or once medications have begun to cause other problems such as stomach ulcers. Vertebroplasty can be performed immediately in patients who have severe pain requiring hospitalization or conditions that limit bed rest and medications.
How does the procedure work?
Vertebroplasty surgery involves injecting a special cement mixture into the small holes in weakened vertebrae to strengthen the spinal bones making them less likely to fracture again and providing relief from pain. Using image-guidance, a hollow needle called a trocar is passed through the skin into the spinal bone and a cement mixture is then injected into the vertebra.
Vertebroplasty surgery procedure:
Since Vertebroplasty main indication is to treat osteoporosis, which is the weakening of the bones due to tiny porous holes that form as a result of genetics, ethnicity or diet. Medical-grade spine cement is inserted into the fractured vertebral body with a tiny needle, filling up the porous areas of the bone.
Recovery from Vertebroplasty surgery:
Most patients prefer Vertebroplasty surgery over any other orthopedic procedure that treats the spine because there is no incision. Only a tiny prick in the skin is made for the special needle-like camera to be inserted for optimum visualization. Stitches are not needed. Recovery time is minimal. Normally the pain from osteoporosis or slightly fractured vertebrae is relieved immediately after this procedure.
Result:
Success rates for treating osteoporotic fractures are high. The percentage of individuals who experience complications after Vertebroplasty surgery is less than 1%.
Why India:
Getting outpatient Vertebroplasty surgery in India doesn’t require much trouble as medical tourism in India has affiliations with the most reliable spine surgery institutions i

Why choose jp hospital for knee replacement surgeryLovina Kapoor
The knee replacement surgery is very excruciating surgery that includes removing the patient's knee joint surface that is damaged. After that, a metal or plastic implant is done on that part to remove the pain. However, this surgery's main motive is to decrease the pain in the knee to improve the knee movement for various things. Now the question arises which hospital you can choose for knee replacement surgery?
Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty provides enhanced accuracy in femoral rotation and tibiofemoral alignment compared to conventional surgery. However, conventional surgery is quicker and less expensive than robotic-assisted surgery. While robotic-assisted surgery achieves better short-term alignment results, both procedures show no significant differences in functional outcomes after two years.

Vein illumination devices are used to enhance the visibility of veins and make venipuncture procedures easier. They work by using infrared light, which is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood, making the veins appear brighter against the skin. This helps medical professionals more quickly and easily locate veins. While they can be expensive, ranging from $600 to over $30,000, vein illumination devices provide benefits like reducing multiple needle sticks, lowering patient discomfort, and improving satisfaction. They are particularly useful for patients with difficult venous access.

Robotic surgery was developed to enable minimally invasive surgery using telepresence and tactile sensor technologies. The Da Vinci surgical system, first used in 2000, allows surgeons to control robotic arms and cameras from a console. While robotic surgery enables more precise movements and 3D visualization, concerns include the high costs of robotic systems, lack of evidence that it improves outcomes compared to laparoscopic surgery, and safety issues such as injuries caused by robotic arms. The future of robotic surgery will depend on addressing these challenges and improving training as the technology continues to advance.
Robotic surgery has advantages over conventional and laparoscopic surgery for gynecological procedures. The da Vinci surgical system allows for precision in complex surgeries through its three-dimensional view and wristed instruments. Robotic surgery results in less blood loss, quicker recovery times, and fewer complications compared to open surgeries. While further research is still needed, robotic surgery has become a common method for hysterectomies and myomectomies to treat conditions like fibroids and cancer. The case study describes a large fibroid removed robotically with minimal blood loss and fast recovery for the patient.

Overall, technology must be developed and implemented carefully in partnership with doctors to truly benefit patients.
Here are some key things I would add to a paramedic program:
- Increased focus on anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. Paramedics need a stronger foundation in how the human body works under normal and abnormal conditions as well as how medications affect the body.
- More emphasis on research methods, evidence-based practice and medical literature evaluation. This will help paramedics become better lifelong learners able to evaluate new research and treatments.
- Expanded management and critical thinking courses. These help develop assessment and diagnostic skills beyond basic protocols.
- Courses in public health, epidemiology and social determinants of health. These provide important context on the communities paramedics serve.

The document discusses how medical technologies have improved lives by preventing disease and enabling organ transplants and surgeries. However, these advances raise ethical issues. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis allows screening embryos but raising concerns about controlling traits. Organ transplants are limited but tissue engineering may one day make them unnecessary. Major surgeries like bypass now cure many but were sometimes due to avoidable lifestyle factors. Overall medical technology preserves life but society must address associated challenges like healthcare costs as the population ages.
The document discusses national guidelines for stem cell research in India from 2013 and draft guidelines from 2017. The 2017 draft guidelines recognize potential benefits of stem cells but stress the need for safety and efficacy data before clinical use. It warns against unregulated stem cell therapy due to lack of evidence, patient exploitation, and safety risks like tumor growth. The draft provides recommendations for quality control of cell processing and manufacturing.

Dr Himadri Sikhor Das pursued radiology after becoming fascinated by the vast knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology demonstrated by radiology residents while he was a surgery resident. He now owns his own successful radiology practice. Some of the benefits of owning his own practice include freedom and flexibility to set his own protocols. Some challenges in setting up a radiology lab included securing funding for equipment, finding an appropriate location, and obtaining necessary government clearances and approvals. He deals with challenges by fully understanding the problem and then working to find solutions without shortcuts. His advice for radiology students is to work hard to build a strong foundation in disease anatomy and pathology.

Correcting Varus Deformity of the Knee in Total Knee ReplacementVaibhav Bagaria
This document discusses the varus knee, including:
1. Classification of varus knee deformities into intraarticular, metaphyseal, extraarticular, and PAGODA deformity.
2. The sequential approach to correction involves assessing and classifying the deformity, performing a medial release through multiple structures, osteophyte removal, and bone realignment through techniques like shift and resect or pie crusting if needed.
3. Key steps are creating a medial sleeve through layered release of the MCL and other medial structures, complete removal of osteophytes that can impede correction, and balancing flexion and extension gaps.
This document discusses the surgical anatomy and treatment of varus knee deformities. It describes Maquet's line and how it is medialized in varus knees. It then classifies varus deformities into 5 categories and details the surgical steps to correct it, including: creating a medial sleeve; removing osteophytes; checking and releasing ligaments like PCL, semimembranosus, and superficial MCL if gaps remain tight; and lateralizing the tibial component by shifting and reducing it. The goal is to create symmetrical extension and flexion gaps and restore the mechanical axis.

7. What does experience tell us
about TKR?
• The goal of a knee arthroplasty is to restore the knee joint
to a functional and pain-free state.
• TKA is a successful procedure when pain relief and
restoration of patient mobility with 10- to 15-year implant
survival rates is greater than 90%
• However, patients are far from fully satisfied, especially in
the case of younger patients. Patient satisfaction remains
at only 82% to 89% after TKA, and patients who received
UKA are satisfied only 80% to 83% of the time
8. Known Knowns
Both implant survival and patient satisfaction are dependent
on multiple factors, including
• patient selection,
• implant design,
• the preoperative condition of the joint,
• surgical technique,
• rehabilitation.
21. When to buy?
• Unique Dilemma
• Does it make a difference?
• technology likely to make a difference to people who can
not afford it!
• Early buyers will be able to make it as a marketing pitch
37. Who?
• Rich Nation vs Poor Nation?
• Govt/ Public Hospitals vs Private hospital
• New kid on block vs experienced surgeon?
