Kenya needs social workers to help address issues of poverty, unemployment, disease, and substance abuse that plague the country. Social workers could help in several key areas: child and family social workers could help orphaned children access resources and implement education programs; medical social workers could help those with HIV/AIDS and educate about prevention of diseases like malaria; and clinical social workers could treat substance abuse and mental health issues and fight the stigma around them. While Kenya faces many challenges, social workers utilizing the resilience of the Kenyan people could help improve living conditions.
