We're called to love. There is nothing more important or transformational. And we also struggle about how to really love. As we enter the new potentiality of a year (2015), we step forward into possibility, probability, facing some of the same challenges of 2014, yet with a new-found self-belief, a newly discovered wisdom, and an evolving bravery. As the 2014 ebbs, it's a good time for reflection, to ask questions of the self, for instance:
This is the first part of a series we are doing about faith development at Cafechurch Melbourne (www.cafechurch.org), largely based on John J Shea's book "Finding God Again." We want to be adults, with fully functional adult faith, but how do we go about it? This session is about the God of the superego with which we start our journey. These images of God aren't wrong exactly, but they become increasingly inadequate, and as we develop, we need to develop more adequate notions of God.

Emotions operate on many levels, physical and mental, and they bridge thought, feeling, and action ; they affect many aspects of a person our lives. Emotions round us out, as we are more than our thoughts, perception, reason, or memories. Understanding and identifying emotions so we can express them effectively is key to a healthy life.
In order to have healthy intimate relationships with others, it helps to have a healthy intimate relationship with God. With God, there is absence of judgment and unconditional acceptance, unlike with a human partner. Through reference to biblical concepts and teachings from the Catholic Catechism, this presentation explains how to form a healthy intimacy with God.
This is the first part. This includes my thoughts from the foreward and chapter one. Have a piece of paper handy so you can fill out the parts it says to.
Are you looking for a book that captures the beauty and complexity of love in all its forms? Look no further than "Unconditional Love: A Collection of Love Poems" by Baraka Godwin.
This stunning collection of poems explores the highs and lows of love with sensitivity and grace. From the sweetness of a new romance to the heartbreak of a breakup, each poem is a window into the human heart, revealing the depth of emotion that makes us human.
Are you a hypochondriac of love or fear of love’s power, or are you a ‘relegator of love to nonsense? Not releasing love is ‘controlling’, as well as giving it where it’s met with abuse. Debunking love is unacknowledged common by pessimistically oriented non believers who put it in the same category as ‘believing in Santa Claus’.
(1) From an external orientation to an internal orientation
(2) Deconstruction of the false beliefs and stories we hold
(3) Feel to heal
(4) Accept our humanness
(5) Integrate our shadows (the parts we disowned)
(6) Be supported by relationships
And a list of day-to-day things we may want to do more of and less of to live a better life!
Pastor Brent encourages us and challenges us to surrender our will to the leading of God's Spirit instead of settling for judgments, disconnections, and addictions (living from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil). Slides for a talk given Jan 30, 2021.

Coming Home To Our True Identity - Charles Razzellrfochler
Charles Razzell contrasts the attitudes and outcomes for two men who encountered God's power: Simon the Sorcerer and Paul the Apostle (Acts chapters 8 & 9). God calls us to experience sonship and values us accordingly, whereas many of us still tend to assess each other for what we do. The best possible outcome is when we know who we are in Christ and live accordingly; Jesus being the Vine, and we the branches. Renewed in Grace
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

“Keep my Love “On”?
• With people who are scaring me?
• With everyone?
(That is a lot of people!)
• Without being used-up and
consumed by the needs of others?
4. T extremes of “Saul’s armor”

Hard-Hearted, quick to reject. look for
rejection and get offended; I’ll reject you
before you reject me.
Overly Compliant and People-pleasing;
afraid to be honest with our own needs and

Both responses are caused by Fear, and
lack of love for, and belief in, yourself.
6. Love is Supernatural
Loving Others, not by trying hard to “be
nice”, but by first receiving love from God
for yourself, and living from that stream.
7. What about people who scare me?
“When we are confronted with
people who scare us, fear makes it
difficult for us to remember that
they are worthy of love.”
- Danny Lee Silk
8. But Jesus....
Jesus never let fear overpower Him, He
constantly showed us who was worthy:
enemies, children, sinners, women,
extorters, prostitutes, soldiers,
politicians, the sick and diseased, highclass, low class, religious, nonreligious.
Everyone.

13. Control of the Brain During
Distress & Suffering
• The brain is not configured in a way that makes
obedience through logical, language based
propositions possible during distress and suffering.
• The only way we can avoid sin (missing the mark)
while using a human brain is to learn to
synchronize with God while we are suffering. Joy
makes this possible.

14. “If the emotional control center of the brain
has the last word and takes over when hard
times and strong feelings come, then a
spiritual life that changes what we do in the
hard times must be learned in the presence
of our emotions and will not be helped by
banishing them.”
James Wilder - Neurotheology & The Life Model
15. Staying Connected
While Upset
“We would not abandon each other or

James Wilder - Neurotheology & The Life

16. Able to Stay Connected
“We would learn to feel strongly yet stay
together and give life. This kind of face-toface relationship when we are upset is just
what is needed to train a young or poorly
developed control center to handle distress.
That would be a spiritual life that would
change character.”
James Wilder - Neurotheology & The Life Model
