Kaley began experiencing nausea after eating and progressively got worse over eight months, throwing up for hours after meals. Doctors diagnosed her with idiopathic gastroparesis but the treatment did not help and her symptoms worsened. Out of desperation, her mother took her to a surgeon who ordered scans revealing Kaley had median arcuate ligament compression syndrome, requiring surgery. The open arcuate ligament decompression was successful and Kaley returned to healthy eating, exercise, and studies. Since MALS is little known and not routinely screened for with gastroparesis, Kaley and her mother aim to increase awareness of MALS in the medical community.
