curriculum development. A
curriculum without a purpose is like a journey
without a destination. Do the teachers and
administrators in your school system have agreed
upon learning outcomes for students at the end of
each grade level? Do teachers and administrators
have time scheduled throughout the school year
to discuss which instructional strategies are
working with certain grade levels or even with
individual students?
 I propose that this not be a subject but
rather a state of mind that weaves
throughout the curriculum, starting with
the recognizition of the oneness of
humankind.
 The list below contains several of the
skills and understandings that most
teachers and parents would agree
students should develop during the K-
12 experience.
The Purpose of K-12
Education
Education
fulfills our social obligation, as a. The goal of
our public system is to allow every child to
develop his/her , and bring each one of them
into full membership in our economic, cultural,
and social national community. This includes
music, the arts, sports, physical and mental
play, communication and expression. We
prepare children to become active contributors
to our culture and full participants in our
democratic institutions.

 We have PUBLIC schools to create a
common space where children of all
races, creeds and income levels gather
to learn together. Our goal is not only
to educate the individual, but also to
build our ability to understand each
other.
 While education includes the knowledge and
specific skill sets for economic
participation, it isn't limited to the demands
of current market conditions, or dictated by
any calculation of the profitability of
investing in our children.
 Each generation has the right to contribute to an
economic system that serves its own human need.
In our own age, whenever those who hold the
advantage of wealth have used it to limit the
boundaries of the lives of common people,
societies have broken, or stagnated and crumbled.
 The major goal of an alternative school is to
provide opportunities for the students not
succeeding in the traditional classroom setting
to obtain academic credit, career exploration
activities, vocational work experience, and
extended teacher/peer support in an alternative
setting where the ultimate goal is that of
obtaining a diploma. This is done through
methods aimed at helping and encouraging at-
risk students.

  • 8.  The major goal of an alternative school is to provide opportunities for the students not succeeding in the traditional classroom setting to obtain academic credit, career exploration activities, vocational work experience, and extended teacher/peer support in an alternative setting where the ultimate goal is that of obtaining a diploma. This is done through methods aimed at helping and encouraging at- risk students.
