This document discusses the purpose of K-12 education. It states that the goal of public education is to allow every child to develop their potential and become fully contributing members of society through developing skills like communication, expression, and participation in democratic institutions. It also aims to transfer knowledge to all children and create a shared space for children of different backgrounds to learn together in order to build understanding. While education includes skills for economic participation, it should not be limited to current market demands or profitability alone. Each generation has the right to contribute to an economic system that serves human needs. Alternative schools also aim to help at-risk students obtain academic credit and career skills through supportive methods to earn a diploma.
