The purpose of this research was to create an intuitive and easy-to-use solar-powered system with:
autonomous functionality, portability, sustainability, and ecological friendly capabilities swimming pool
cleaning system (based on UV light generation); in order to disinfect harmful bacteria and to reduce
chlorine levels.
This prototype reduces bacteria levels between a Log1
(90%) and a Log5 (99.999%) efficiency on the first
pass. Results were based on Pseudomonas
Aeruginosa and Shigella Flexneri, known to cause
“Swimmer’s Ear” and Upper respiratory infections.
Adults, children and people who suffer from skin diseases will be able to enjoy
recreational bathing in swimming pools without experiencing any adverse
reactions to toxic cleaning chemicals and bacteria. This device will help people
become more ecologically friendly by reducing their energy bill, as it does not
rely on grid power, but rather on solar power.

U.V lamps with
wavelengths at
254nm in conjunction
with a water pump
that syphons the
water through a U.V
disinfection chamber.
This unit can be
operated in either
low or high power
mode. The unit uses
two Arduino Uno3 as
the main controllers,
in conjunction with a
WI-FI module that
acts as a Web-based
Server.
