Intentions, Processes and Frameworks for ChangeSami Nerenberg
This lecture discusses the Law of Unintended Consequences, the importance of understanding your user to avoid typical pitfalls, frameworks for creating change, and adding the notion that moral capabilities are needed for an effective leader.
The document provides brief biographies of 20 individuals involved in social entrepreneurship and sustainability initiatives. It describes their backgrounds, current projects, and goals which generally focus on areas like green design, education, human rights, social entrepreneurship, community development, and more. The individuals come from a variety of professional backgrounds and are using their skills and passions to drive positive change.
Young people have the right to attain their full potential. Those who lack the necessary support to imagine possibilities for their future and feel disconnected from the society, are left to do unskilled jobs or even become involved in crime. Threee aims to open gateways for those who feel alienated to embark on a proactive career path, and help them find constructive and stable positions in society.
By building bridges between young people and workplaces through short-term employment opportunities, participants gain experience, confidence, and skills that prepare them for the challenges of broader social engagement. Threee incorporates local municipalities in the mix, creating a multi-layered system with a variety of touch-points.
The organization provides training programs focused on intercultural awareness, sustainability, and systems thinking to help individuals and companies work effectively in a globalized world, with modular courses that can be customized for universities, corporations, aid workers, and individual travelers, and plans to expand their offerings and customer base over five years with a $500,000 investment.
How many times has a customer told you they want to search in their application “like Google“? How many times was the search engine in your application too slow? Hibernate Search brings full-text search capabilities to a persistent domain model, providing Google-like search capabilities while avoiding the traditional cost and difficulties to set up such solutions.
In this session, you will learn what problems Hibernate Search can solve and you will follow the steps of adding it to a Hibernate based application. You will build your own application specific full-text search engine. We will also explore advance subjects such as clustering and the underlying of phonetic approximation.

Ethics is about making choices between right and wrong. It involves understanding how our choices can affect outcomes and doing what is right for the right reasons. We must choose between good ethics, which leads to positive consequences, and bad ethics, which leads to negative consequences. At its core, ethics challenges us to consistently do what is right even when it does not personally benefit us and to consider how our actions can ripple out beyond their initial impact.
5 Strategies Day One Handout Teen Leadership May 22Al Serino
This document discusses leadership development and the strategies of exceptional leaders. It defines leadership and outlines the differences between acceptable and exceptional leadership. Participants are then asked to define leadership based on what they have learned and to write down a dream or idea that could benefit the world.

Measuring Social Enterprise Impacts and Benefits:Emerging Approaches and IssuesKarim Harji
Presentation at the CASC/ANSER conference, Ottawa, May 27, 2009
For many social enterprises, the important issues of accountability and performance often get funneled into a discussion around metrics and measurement. Yet the measurement of the “blended value” (financial, social and environmental) that is created by social enterprise is a relatively under-developed facet of the social finance marketspace. This session will present emerging approaches and methods to assess, manage and communicate the complexity of social and financial value creation. Drawing on Canadian and international examples, the potential contributions of these approaches to the broader debate around social impact measurement will also be examined.

What does this mean for education and human capital development? How do we fit in as organizations and individuals? More importantly, what do we need to do now? This talk focuses on the emerging qualities of innovation workers in the 21st century, the impact of social technologies and media (crowdsourcing, etc.), and “what’s next” as we build Society 3.0. This talk explores a framework for navigating our rapidly changing society, and plots a pathway for maximizing and leading with our creativity and innovation capital. (These slides were shared at Creative Company Conference, ITSMF Academy and the University of Oxford.)

In an education system, it is understood that assessment is only for the students, but on the other hand, the Assessment of teachers is also an important aspect of the education system that ensures teachers are providing high-quality instruction to students. The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.

3. Vulnerable Youth – A Generation At Risk
The Landscape
The future legacy of our nation is currently “at risk”. Here are some
statistics:
The high school dropout rate of the top 50 cities in our nation is at 51.2%!
The average high school graduate student today, without any further
training or education, will experience a 42% employment rate over the age
of 25! That’s 58% unemployment experience over the course of their lives.
Behavior lost time in schools today accounts for over 70% of the
suspension occurrences. Ignoring school policy rules is the top
contributor!
In Connecticut alone, the lost time in 2005 was equivalent to 2080
students missing an entire school year!
4. Vulnerable Youth – A Generation At Risk
The Landscape
The Most recent statistics on U.S. standings on “behavior” (Crime-FBI

Switzerland, Netherlands, New Zealand higher)
#6 in capital offenses in the world – over 12000 murders per
year!
#1 in overall incarcerations – over 2million in jails ( China 2nd
at 1.5 million)- but they have almost 10 times the population!

• In 2005, 7,000 Connecticut teens ages 16–19 were high school
dropouts.
• In 2005, 12% of teens ages 16–19 were not enrolled in school, were
notworking, and had no degree beyond high school.
• In 2005, approximately 16,000 children ages 12–17 in Connecticut
needed but had not received treatment for illicit drug use in the past
year.
• In 2005, approximately 18,000 children ages 12–17 needed but had
